  • In Episode 126, we test out a $30 water sand blasting tool that attaches to a pressure washer for cheap and inexpensive DIY dustless sandblasting! We use it to clean up a 50 year old set of Corvette Rallye wheels, removing years of paint, grime, rust and gunk to get them to an almost near-white blast finish. But how do you prevent the water blast from rusting the surface? Spray it with a little phosphoric acid!

Glad you did this video. I bought one of these a few years ago and yet to use it. Now I know for sure what to use for a medium. Thanx again. Nice job!

Quite a difference--worth the $30. I was kinda hoping when Christine was done she would be sporting old school chrome reverse with baby moons.

Amazing that a $30 attachment onto your pressure washer did such an awesome job and better yet kept the dust down too! Wonder how it would do on a frame? Enjoyed the video Bill!

I use the play sand but i screen all of the media before using. You'd be surprised how big rocks get into the bags. Another helpful tip is to get bags inside the store because moisture gets into the outside bags. . Even if the store employees ,fuss about you doing it.They with tell you in cannot be used for sandblasting.I made a 12"x12" box made out of 2"x2". And use 1 screen with about 1/8" holes ,then use screen can be metal or plastic. Works really good just shake it.Makes a huge difference.

This is great! I’ve seen the advertisement for this sandblaster attachment so many times but was unsure, now we know! In the comments of the ad, people who bought it said you need to keep the sand feed tube on the top side at all times, if you don’t it causes the sand to clog. That’s probably what was happening with you? Knowing what you know now, would you have used it on Christine’s frame? As always, thanks so much for sharing all this info Bill! You are the man! I’m so excited for you!

I’ve used the black slag to raise up a texture on aluminum parts which had gotten polished. After the slag go over the surface with glass bead to even out the color/texture. On my ‘55 I can’t decide if I should run Cragar’s or Rally’s. It’ll be interesting to see your wheels when they’re done.

Coal slag is for softer metals. Rims, the play sand on steel is better.

Didn't do too bad ... if you don't have a large set to regular sand blast it makes sense ... you forgot to pull the weights off ... a quick scuff with some 80 grit and they'll be ready to prime ...
