+Brian Shneydman Because people are dumb and most of this dumbasses still watch tv. I mean news and other shit. i watch sport and smart programs like quizes. And live in place there is no good internet so I can't watch online or download.
It came very early in the century and in a sense of meaning, it was much more revolutionary. Although, I love computers, they are TVs that require the internet/wifi. Please no one bash me (if they strongly disagree).
+Brian Shneydman well for one thing, TV's were actually invented in the 20th Century... The Computer wasn't. Modern Turing Complete computers were actually really invented in 1837.....
The tank was also an important invention. It's incredible how a thing with such a restricted range of uses could have such an impact on the course of history. This is given to the fact that the 20th century was marked by the greatest conflict know to man.

+CyroSparrow_ 30 The internet was actually invented by DARPA in the late 1960s. First e-mails were sent in the 70s. There was a pretty big hobbyist internet in the 1980s with Compuserve and Prodigy. In 1989 there were 1 million online users. The modern high speed internet that everyone knows about rolled out in the mid 90s but there was an internet long before that.
Mine: 10. General Relativity and Special Relativity 9. Motion Picture 8. Wireless Communication (Early Phones) 7. Airplanes 6. Antibiotics (Penicillin) and Vaccines 5. Nuclear-Powered Energy 4. Transistors (Computers) 3. Quantum Mechanics 2. Rockets 1. The Internet
Not a single invention but industrial agriculture which includes the use of petro-chemical fertilizers, pesticides, tractors, and harvesting combines deserves a mention. In 1900 half the population grew their own food and all food was grown by hand or with the aid of draft animals. Little had changed in agriculture for thousands of years until the green revolution happened in the 20th century. Famines used to kill more people than wars but by the end 20th century famines had largely been eradicated from the planet. Few people work the land or grow their own food anymore. Of all the inventions this probably had the biggest on the average person. It freed us being tied to the land and allowed for a quadrupling of the human population. Likely you wouldn't be alive today playing on the internet if there wasn't enough food to eat. The next time you eat something you didn't grow yourself be sure to thank industrial agriculture. This should be NUMBER 1.
Number 1 should have been the intermodal shipping container. Without it most of the things on the list wouldn't be as ubiquitous as they are now. the vast majority of shipping is done by water. It's the unsung hero of our modern lives.
Radio, TV, microwave, satellite and cell phones all have their root in our discovery of what the electromagnetic spectrum was capable of when harnessed.
I definitely think that penicillin was deserving of the top spot as it has helped to extend human lifespan by decades and saved hundreds of millions of lives whilst making operations possible.
The 20th century is what fascinates me. It had radical changes in almost every aspect of human society. Significant changes came unlike any other century before that. I am so glad the Internet is on the top of the list. I can't do without the Internet. A century of innovation and beginning to live longer as a result of penicillin and more vaccines. Billions dreamed of flying prior to 1903, and I am glad it's been a dream come true for a little more than a century. The computer should be ranked at second place. I am glad life has become easier and better as a result of what happened in the 20th century in the inventions.
Microwave - Percy Spencer 🇺🇸 Satellite - Arthur C Clarke 🇬🇧 Nuclear Energy - Enrico Fermi 🇮🇹 Vacuum Cleaner - Hubert Cecil Booth 🇬🇧 Aeroplane - The Wright Brothers 🇺🇸 Mobile Phone - Martin “Marty” Cooper 🇺🇸 Computer - Charles Babbage 🇬🇧 Penicillin - Alexander Fleming 🇬🇧 Television - John Logie Baird 🇬🇧 The Internet - Tim a Berners-Lee 🇬🇧 The Brits got this!
The first "plane" was the Eole build by a french enginner named Clémand Ader , the prototype fly for the first time in 1890 , way before the wright brothers...
Here's to coming up with "Top 10 Anime Characters with High Kill Counts" and "Top 10 As Seen On TV Products That Were Surprisingly Awesome" before this one.
+Remco F. Gerritsen every modern tv has a computer, and im not talking about smart TV's. you need a computer to decode the signal that is coming through. computers aren't just PCs you know
No 4472 flying Scotsman A3 pacific should be on this list as it broke many records and made travel luxury, surviving for over 90 years it still runs to this day
1:48 The most prophetic movie scene ever filmed? Thumbs up if you've got an 'integrated television, phone and computer'! Jim totally predicted 'smart' devices and tablet computers!
I wonder what the top inventions of history would be. It's kinda hard to rank something as world-changing as the Internet against things like cars, fire, or the wheel, all of which arguably had the same if not an even bigger impact.
+MajorShot nup, as I've been pointing out, Charles Babbage invented the modern Computer and when the 20th Century began, he was nearly 30 years dead....
exactly, almost everything that we know was created thanks to the computer. Without computers there would be no internet. You can also say that without electricity there would be no computer but we are talking about 20th century.
+Sentinel HDD - COD Gameplays & Live Commentaries! Actually, computers have been around for 200-2000 years as calculating machines. It was the efforts of British cryptologists deciphering the Enigma cipher that was the cornerstone for computers as we knew them.
How is the TV more important than the computer?
Is this a serious obtuse question ?
+Brian Shneydman Because people are dumb and most of this dumbasses still watch tv. I mean news and other shit. i watch sport and smart programs like quizes. And live in place there is no good internet so I can't watch online or download.
It came very early in the century and in a sense of meaning, it was much more revolutionary. Although, I love computers, they are TVs that require the internet/wifi. Please no one bash me (if they strongly disagree).
The list isn't about importance. It's just randomly assorted things really.
+Brian Shneydman
well for one thing, TV's were actually invented in the 20th Century... The Computer wasn't. Modern Turing Complete computers were actually really invented in 1837.....
I personally never use the Internet.
Internet? Never heard of it.
+Movie Nerd never heard of it ? Never heard of it.
tf is that?
Internet = porn and memes
But Comments on UA-cam
The tank was also an important invention. It's incredible how a thing with such a restricted range of uses could have such an impact on the course of history. This is given to the fact that the 20th century was marked by the greatest conflict know to man.
Can't believe the transistor isn't on the list. Just about everything on the list is possible because of the transistor.
Most underrated comment
Vacuum cleaner and microwave are... brainless watchmojos can not do better
Surely shouldn't the computer be higher than the internet since the internet wouldn't exist without it?
+BigHairyFenian not true..
+BigHairyFenian But by that you must everything else that made the computer possible above it.
+Eorria Explain how you could have got the Internet without intense code and Dedicated servers
+Aiden Connor theres always another way to do something
Eorria How so? The internet is a global network of computers, without the computers it's nothing.
vacuum cleaner > satelites
wut? Are you serious?
yes
Blame the voters
+przadlo1488 - I'm trying to play devil advocate ... but i can't.
Satellites is number 9 and vacuum cleaner is number 7.
Thats! Correct!

Computer should definitely be higher than the TV lol.
Brooms still exist because most people aren't going to drag out the vacuum cleaner if it's a small mess, like a handful of spilled cereal.

First Reply!! :D
top 10 awful games
What about the Rubik's Cube
The micro processor should be on this list as well.
+Raven Campbell I think a better candidate by that logic would be the transistor. Without it, microprocessors would not be possible.
TV number 2 even thought TV sales are have fallen a lot last couple of years.
Making films with smart phones makes me laugh so much.
Love that M1 Garand ping at 11:13

"oh crap, I forgot the vacuum." lmao
lol when peter griffin forgot the vacuum.HAHAHA
Internet is obviously #1
+Nyx ikr
but there was internet in the 19
+Mikail41 internet is invented in the mid 90s?

1. The Internet
Out of the whole video, the part I liked the most was seeing the original Call of Duty on the office...
Loving that TARDIS on the nuclear power station map.
It all depends on where you live. For example,If you were in a region where temperature reaches 48 C. ,you would appreciate air conditioners most.
The invention of laser should have been high on the list. It led to other inventions used in medicine, communications and many more.
+Greg Salcedo Look at the voting. it wasn't even on the list.

This should be NUMBER 1.
Romania helped for this a lot, penillicin, the airplane, the engine reaction, and other more
No one said otherwise... No need to get defensive
Yeah, sure, vaacum cleaner is a more mesmerizing achievement than space rockets. -__-'
Number 1 should have been the intermodal shipping container. Without it most of the things on the list wouldn't be as ubiquitous as they are now. the vast majority of shipping is done by water. It's the unsung hero of our modern lives.
You´ve missed Transistor and Laser.
The imposition of a highly controversial response to a problem impels science to counter with a much more positive solution.
Radio, TV, microwave, satellite and cell phones all have their root in our discovery of what the electromagnetic spectrum was capable of when harnessed.
good list wojo.
5:42 Nope. A Bavarian in 1901 created the first Plane
The 10,000 year gap occurred between the harnessing of fire and the invention of the wheel on earth.
Great video, WatchMojo! The electric air conditioner is also an important 20th century invention. It made more places more habitable for humans.
Truely the greatest century in human history
I definitely think that penicillin was deserving of the top spot as it has helped to extend human lifespan by decades and saved hundreds of millions of lives whilst making operations possible.

Fax machine, ATM, credit cards, CFL etc etc etc. the list goes on and on.
I'm sure an ATM has saved more lives than penicillin
"The internet went down for three hours, this morning, plunging the nation into productivity"
Apparently the kid giving internet instructions was unaware that these // are forward slashes. A double backslash would be \\
What is the series and episode at 1:33? I want to see it but you didn't put the source in the description.
My mom had a huge model back in 1978. Tappan.

I find it funny that it said instantaneously for the internet. *nudge nudge* internet explorer.
Nice Tim and Eric reference.
I can't agree with number 3 being allergic to Penicillin.
The microwave turntable is actually completely pointless, you can get flat bed microwaves that work just the same and allow more space inside.
The microwave shouldn't be on this list. You know what inventions warms your food and doesn't ruon it while warming it more evenly? The oven.
Top 10 21th Century Inventions pls
The jet engine should be on the list.
Why on earth is TV higher than Computers? That's absurd.
+Blueberry Bandit They say it themselves: Because EVERYONE has one! A computer not everyone.
Remco F. Gerritsen More people have computers than TVs. That's a fact.
***** A Screen doesn't have to be a television.

No 4472 flying Scotsman A3 pacific should be on this list as it broke many records and made travel luxury, surviving for over 90 years it still runs to this day

We still love ya, transistors...
1:48 The most prophetic movie scene ever filmed?

I nominate LSD, rock and roll and video games, lol.
Computer should be higher than tv i think
+MajorShot nup, as I've been pointing out, Charles Babbage invented the modern Computer and when the 20th Century began, he was nearly 30 years dead....
+colliric Doesn't matter. This is a 20th Century list.
Oh shit son, is that The Secret Life of Machines?
the computer should be #1
+Sentinel HDD - COD Gameplays & Live Commentaries! Fully agree. Internet wouldn't exist without it.
+Sentinel HDD - COD Gameplays & Live Commentaries! Why should it be more important that Penicilin?
+David Angeletti Because the computer is the basis for almost every invention to come after it and will continue to be until the end of time.
