I started driving a cab in the '60s and have over 50 years experience in the business on and off. In those days the rate per mile in Manhattan was 75 cents per mile, but the fleet furnished the car and paid for gas. With Uber, 50 years later, I got paid 76 cents per mile and I pay all expenses on the car including gas, tax, insurance, plus any tickets or accidents. Working for Uber was one of the most humiliating experiences of my life. Ever work for the public? Some people expect you to be a slave. One lady asked me to wait for her while she did her shopping at the supermarket. I politely explained that I'm only getting paid $6 dollars per hour for waiting time and declined. She gave me One Star and I was eventually fired for a low rating. Uber doesn't fire you: they just prevent you from getting into your app and you can't even complain to anybody. To them it's like you never existed. It's as easy as stepping on a cockroach, completely devoid of any human feeling or empathy. You're working for a computer, not human beings. Now in my 70s can remember Jimmy Hoffa on TV. What ever happened to the American labor movement? Over eighty years of struggle down the drain - all so Uber can exploit desperate workers.

There was an explosion of Uber drivers in Manila because of incentives given to them if they reach a daily quota. It was so profitable that people would buy cars on low down payment and hire drivers with 60/40 profit sharing after Uber took their cut. When Uber stopped the incentives because they had enough drivers, lots of people sunk into debt trying to pay for a car they couldn't pay for anymore with what they made from Uber.

How can a company that has zero expenses, except administrative costs, but that has worldwide revenues in the high billions, be losing money? Maybe the I.R.S. needs to take a look at those guys.
Well, one of the problems is that at some point they were offering to get new drivers separate vehicles meant specifically for Uber driving. They bought the car outright, then gave it to the driver. Well, as you can probably guess, this resulted in a lot of new drivers in a lot of areas, which meant each individual driver made less. Thus, they couldn't afford to make the payments on the car, so Uber lost money on that. On top of which, as soon as companies like Lyft started showing up Uber had to reduce the rates it was charging per fare even further, & since they only take 20 -> 30% of the fare in the first place that means they made even less money than they were making before. Then, you have the fact that they've apparently taken to the Wal-Mart model of operating a business - expand into every market that exists, whatever the cost. They've only been here in the Wilmington, NC, area since about mid-2015, & they are trying to get into as many markets as possible. There's also the fact that when they first started up, they were giving drivers their own smartphones that had been rigged to do data-only, solely for the purposes of using the Uber driver app. They don't do it anymore, but that wasn't cheap either. Then there's all the legal fees incurred from their continued fight to keep from being labeled a "for hire" or "taxi" company - which is what they actually are. If they get put under the same kinds of regulations that taxi companies have to deal with - which is what keeps a lot of the taxi companies honest - then they'll go bankrupt practically overnight & disappear - as they should.
I think it was a good thing that it was forbidden here in Germany. Basically providing taxi-services without abidding the tough law that is implemented for taxi-drivers to protect the customers is just something that does not work.
The drivers get paid next to nothing, and taxes aren't taken out. If they get in a wreck, they're screwed because they aren't commercially insured. I'm completely against Uber, because it's unfair to the drivers.
lmao fuck you I make between $900-$1000 every week you clown. I'm tired of seeing these crazy "uber pay sucks" statements everywhere. most people only drive a few hours a day a few days a week. when you loive in LA like I do, and put in FULL-TIME hours, then you get full time pay.

Uber takes 46% of the fare on short trips from Veteran Drivers and 51% from New Drivers hired after September 2015. “Lyft” ONLY takes 20% Regardless of how LONG or SHORT the trip is.. 2. if uber puts taxis out of business The they'll basically become the taxi drivers with the same pay rates. kind of like what Redbox add Netflix did the Blockbuster.
the problem with Uber (and Grab, and other services) is that people who wouldn't normally buy cars would buy a new car (or a fleet of cars) just to sign up for these services -- increasing the traffic congestion instead of alleviating it. This is what's happening in Manila.
If an Uber driver gets a DUI, they go through the same kind of thing a regular driver would & will be back on the road driving Uber again the minute they're off restriction. A taxi driver getting caught in a DUI will get their hack permit revoked & not be able to drive a cab again. The only area where Uber drivers are worse off is that if they do get a DUI it'll be their own PERSONAL vehicle that gets impounded, rather than just having another driver come bring the cab back to the company.

I worked for Uber in Phoenix for six months my average earnig was about 400 a week gross. If I take into account expenses, it goes down even more.
That guy at the end was pissed lol
Consumers want what is best for them despite it supporting increased wealth concentration at the top end, disruption to small business, reduced tax obligations providing less social services to nations, further degrading working conditions and gradually over time, reducing jobs. Obviously some people know where it is going to end. Those who are game, keep asking your MP's until they eventually are forced to answer with more than a casual dismissal. Power in numbers. Best.

I've had so many problems with uber I'm San Diego CA drivers don't speak English, can't follow basic directions, speed, and text on the phone while driving. Or try to extend the ride or you have to tell them to end the ride because they won't if you don't tell them once you arrive at your destination plus alot of cars are stinky

The Apocalypse is no doubt closing in by the nanosecond!!!!!!!!
the problem with Uber (and Grab, and other services) is that people who wouldn't normally buy cars would buy a new car (or a fleet of cars) just to sign up for these services -- increasing the traffic congestion instead of alleviating it.
This is what's happening in Manila.

The Sydney attack had nothing to do with uber
What about less expensive than taxis and more importantly less drunk driving...
Can't Uber drivers work when they want to? I don't really think sick days should be a thing then.
