agree! It is mass media can very often transforms into the culprit of people having stereotypical and demeaning misconceptions (excuse my English lol not a native speaker)
+Greg Salcedo That reminds me of a remark I read somewhere: it was about a Chinese American who, after reading The Rape of Nanking, said the event (The Nanking Massacre) should have a Hollywood adaptation like Schindler's List or something. Not like the sleazy American or Italian naziexploitation flicks in the 70s, but worldwide, empowering, slick production value and all-powerful Hollywood, which will give you an instant legitimacy that nobody will dare to contradict. People want to have that adaptation not only because of the story, but they are, secretly hungry for that power.
+Greg Salcedo I'm not sure why these events need movies anyway. I'd much rather see a factual documentary on these events (as I have for many of the ones listed) then sit through a fictionalized account dreamed up to make money at the expense of truth. I can't say I've ever seen a 'historical drama' that has been anywhere near as good as the real story.
What about these historical events: Fall of Constantinople The Islamic Conquest of Iberia The Rise of Charlemange The voyages of Zheng He The epic of Mansa Sundjata Yaroslav the Wise and the Birth of Russia The Black Death (not sure if there's already a movie based on this, I'm just putting this here just to be safe) The Punic Wars ( the second one especially) Operation Nimrod (or the Iranian Embassy Siege if you want to be specific)
Nobody wants to see movies about those because literally EVERY event you listed there has at least 1 word that nobody gives a shit about. "Zhang" "Sundjata" "Iberia". nobody cares lol
+Logicalpsycho2323 Are you being a dumbass, okay, I can see why you wouldn't know who Zheng He (a Chinese admiral and diplomat who helped extend China's maritime and commercial influence throughout the regions bordering the Indian Ocean), and Sundjata Keita (the founder of the Empire of Mali), but how can you not know what the Iberian Peninsula (a region in Western Europe that consists of Spain and Portugal), seriously. Or are you just being a troll right now.
I was happy to see the Night Witches get a mention, I think a movie about them would be a good idea, I love reading about them. Even happier that Sabatons song about them also got featured whoo!!.
Blackbeard would be a kick ass action film just for the ending alone. Liberties would have to be taken, but the final showdown between him and the captain that caught him would be epic.
They're actually making a movie about the Boston Marathon Bombings at the time this video was posted. The production company caused a mighty uproar in Boston when they wanted to film the climactic scene where the police captured Tsarnaev in the actual town where it happened.
What is it with all this negative moments in history that would make for Hollywood adaptations? Why can't more people focus on a positive type event that will give people a reminder that there is good out there. If I want tragedy on a daily basis, I'd watch the news again.
+Alyssa Stehle I will admit I wrote this comment just before I saw number one and thought about deleting it for that reason. But the majority of them were pretty downers. I guess I just like fun type of movies.
If a movie has to be made about Tiananmen Square, I think director Paul Greengrass would be in the best position for this kind of job considering his solid work in "Bloody Sunday", "United 93" and "Captain Phillips".
What about the Winter War? Finland against the Soviet Union, 3.7 million against a country of 170 million. I thought Hollywood liked heroes fighting against all odds.
@@lavrentivs9891 Well I'm American and would love to see that movie. I just think Hollywood wont take a chance making a movie about something that not many people know about. They want guaranteed money.
Although it was considered a miniseries, I remember watching Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones while in college. It had Janes Earl Jones, Ned Beatty, and Powers Boothe in it. Although it was the Emmys and not the Oscars, it received several nominations and Powers Boothe received an Emmy for playing Jim Jones.
There is a book called Forbidden City, by William Bell (a Canadian author) - it follows the story of a history huff teen Alex who travels with his dad, a CBC cameraman, to China to cover Gorbachev's visit to Beijing and while they're there, the Tiananmen Square Protests erupt...I have been waiting waiting waiting for ages to see it brought to life
The Boston Marathon Bombing and the search for the perpetrators is being made into a movie called "Patriot's Day." Mark Wahlberg is in it. So is Kevin Bacon. I don't know if that's good or bad. Has anyone made a movie about a first lady? Perhaps Eleanor Roosevelt or Jackie Kennedy?
Excuse me! Lockerbie is NOT in England, it's in Scotland. I hate to be one of those people online that corrects everything, but if you are gonna talk about such a touchy subject, do your research. It was an AWFUL event in Scottish history. Believe or not, England isn't the only place in Britain.
Why do we need so many movie ideas about terrorist attacks? What about good historical moments like the Wright Brothers' first flight or the Schneider Cup seaplane races of the early 20th century?
There already is a fantastic German film about the fall of the Berlin Wall that is also pretty recent. It's called "Bornholmer Strasse" by Christian Schwochow and is focused on a few East-German guards at one of the most important border checkpoints in Berlin during the last few hours leading up to the fall. I know that it probably hasn't been distributed to many countries but if you ever come across a subtitled version of it I would highly recommend it because it is fantastic. It captures the importance of that event and the impact it had on the lives of the German people incredibly well.
Rert 78 because the 2 are completely different. Using your logic is like saying you don't mix up 2 states, or in canada you don't mix Alberta with Ontario or Bavaria with Mecklenburg-Pomerania in Germany, or likewise in other countries. California and new York are part of the same country whereas Scotland and England while both in the UK are both their own countries. While the UK comprises of England Scotland Wales and Ireland I believe. The UK is country's all separate while United States is one country made up of states
While not a "film" production, Jim Jones was portrayed by Powers Booth in a miniseries / made-for-TV film. Also, the internment of Japanese Americans was part of the plot for "Come See the Paradise" and " Snow Falling on Cedars". Yet I agree that for how tragic the event was for so many people, it deserves more cinematic treatments.
Most, if not all of these, should never be grabbed by Hollywood. Hollywood doesn't seem to know how to do history justice and would just poop out even more horrible adaptations of history which just piss on everyone who actually lived it. The Night Witches one does sound like it would be a great movie, but I am sure it would be given the same treatment as Red Tails. Hollywood can make decent movies based off of real events, such as war movies, but when it comes to actual events, just leave that to the documentaries. That being said, IF it is given justice, an assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand movie could be good seeing as that is the event most credited to sparking 31 long years of turmoil and war.
A few I would like to see: - The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest/The Roman humiliation in Germany - Boudica's uprising against the Romans - The French Revolution through the eyes of Edmund Burke and Thomas Paine - Battle of El Alamein
I was visiting London when the terrorist attacks happened. Thank goodness we didn't decide to take the trains that day, but I can't begin to express how nerve wracking it was to get on them the next day.
Great list!! Completely agree that both the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and the fall of the Berlin Wall, perhaps the most significant event of my lifetime, would be great movies.
I'm not sure if these events have been made into movies, but I'd REALLY like to see them none the less: - The Canadian Residential Schools, could make a tear-jerking story. - Project MK-ultra, would be a very interesting watch.
Unique watchmojo list, I really enjoyed it and agree wholeheartedly with these choices. I think that most filmmakers are cautious to take on such historical and life changing events that they're not sure if they would do the events justice.
Not quite. The Great War itself didn't cause WWII. It's the events that took place in the immediate aftermath and the decades following that caused WWII. The stringent conditions in the Treaty of Versailles (that the French insisted on enforcing because they were so badly effected by the war), are a more 'direct' cause of WWII. There's also the social and economic strife that the German people lived through, not only as a result of the Treaty of Versailles, but also the Great Depression in America. Like I say, a few more factors were at play when Hitler eventually mobilised his armies and marched them on their leggies...
+Jason Boross The french also used the treaty of Versailles as revenge for the Germans beating them in the Franco-Prussian war. in the treaty France sezed an area of the Rhineland that was in dispute during the Franco-Prussian war an area historically and culturally German the French occupied for only about 19 years.
I understand the specifics but would we have had WW2 without WW1? No. Therefore the first caused the second. It's highly simplistic i know but true all the same.
Jason Boross I was trying to word it in a way that didn't seem either arrogant or ignorant. I fail at that more than i succeed so i'm happy my meaning came across. Thank you Jason Boross!
I'd like to see a TV series based on the "War of the three kingdoms". It was a series of conflicts in Britain and Ireland during the 17th Century, including the English civil war. It's got beheadings, massacres, twists and turns, constantly shifting allegiances and plenty of villains. Like a historically accurate Game of Thrones.
This list is very disrespectful. How dare someone say tragic events deserve to be made into Hollywood films (Emphasis on the Hollywood). People lost their lives and many suffered. This should not have any mockery. And being the title is hinting at Hollywood, then truly this is disrespectful. Sure, people deserve to know, but the way she says they would be made into movies makes this list disrespectful!
There have been Two movies regarding the Jonestown Massacare. One TV biopic starring Powers Boothe as Jim Jones and a "fictional" film starring Stuart Whitman as Jim "Johnson". There was a movie called " Farewell to Manzanar". A film about the internment of Nisei in the West. It was done in the 70's and it was shown on NBC.
Space Shuttle Challenger disaster 7 different Astronauts died. Their families and back stories. The mission, they dared to achieve . The impact on history and a entire nation, maybe all of humanity. With the right Direction and pacing, this could be a heart-wrenching/heart-warming film about all of us!
ho i was just saying from a buisness point of views it's not good to not have the second biggest money bringer to not show it but i would watch the fuck out that for sure.
+caribou3 it wouldnt need a 150 Million $ Budget and have insane CGI-Action packed 3D 4K Bullshit with famous actors. A smart director and good actors could make this a great movie with a relatively low budget.
Id like to point out a HUGE mistake you made mojo. You said "the worst terrorist attack in England since the Lockerbie Bombing" Well it may not mean much to you but it does to us Scots... LOCKERBIE IS IN SCOTLAND
The war would happen eventually, the tension between the great forces(Britain,France,Germany,Russia,Austro-Hungary) was big The assassination was just a trigger
+Kosta Jovanovic Yeah, but imagine if we didn't had the wars, we wouldn't have all the medicine knowledge and technological advances of today (I don't think it justifies, but it's something to think about)
I remember Cary Elwes playing Ted Bundy in "The Riverman" back in 2004. It was a made for TV movie from A & E. Or Bio. Can't remember which of the now defunct channels it was. I liked it. It was about the Green River Killer, and a good portion of the movie was about Ted Bundy helping law enforcement compile a profile of the killer. But like I said, it was made for TV. They don't seem to make too many films about ACTUAL serial killers. Ones like "Monster" are one of the few I can recall off the top of my head.
mike112769 A - I didn't say WWII Necessarily. B - And America isn't doing that now a days? It seems like all the American war films on at the moment seem to cut Britain out of the picture, Not cool. C - Yes we did, But Films then and films now are two completely different things. The Battle of Britain is excellent, But It's still an old film. Besides, if you like it or not, Were getting another British War film, And It's set to be fantastic. pegasusbridgethemovie.com/ And besides, Can you really say that WWII Doesn't deserve more movies? There are plenty of untold stories.
It's neat that in time a few of the events featured in this video have in fact been made into movies like "The Current War" and "Patriot's Day" and even "First Man" in the years since this videos release.
YOU LEFT OUT EASTER RISING!!! Me being of Irish decent and wanting to visit Dublin makes me want a movie about Ireland's revolutions. So maybe movie about Easter Rising or maybe a movie about the Irish Republican Army.
Please don't, it will be terrible. Let the countries where it actually happened make these movies, not in the least because of the language. You say 'deserve' like it is an honor.
One, Hollywood would never do #10 right. It wasn't just a bunch of students protesting. Literally massive amounts of the citizenry from all walks of life in China converged on the Square. What occurred was a massacre far bigger than most realize. Calling it the abortion of Democracy in China would literally be the proper term for what took place. Those tanks rolling through as a show of might after all those people were murdered by their own government, was literally obscene. As for Tank Man, he was likely led away by undercover government agents to be executed or re-educated. No way is Hollywood, made up of extreme liberals, is going to portray what took place; properly.
+NGMonocrom I think Paul Greengrass would do just fine. His depiction of "Bloody Sunday" comes to mind as to how such story can be depicted after plenty of hard work in finding documentation for the topic.
The Battle of Ramree Island in 1945. It should have perspectives of both the Japanese and the British. Not only would it make an interesting war movie, but it also a great Crocodile flick- when the Japanese soldiers were crossing mangrove swamps infested with Saltwater Crocodiles, more than half of them were slaughtered, only 20 survived.
+EDsavant is there a movie about unit #731, is called "men behind the sun". Maybe a hollywood review could be soft and too much politically correct to show such horrible event.
If I had to create a movie based off a real event, I have a couple in mind: the battle of Leyte Gulf and the battle of Jutland. Arguably the two most iconic naval battles in the 20th century, the largest battleship vs battleship engagement in history and in the former case, the largest naval battle in history, which includes one of the most inspiring acts ever in military history: A captain of a US destroyer deciding to attack the Japanese fleet consisting of 4 battleships, 10 cruisers and 18 destroyers by itself.
The Halifax Explosion would be an interesting one. Largest man-made explosion until the atomic bombs, thousands dead, half of a city destroyed, city gets hit with a blizzard the following day, and it happens during World War 1.
We don't need Hollywood to make a movie about 7/7. Unlike America we prefer to show the enemy that no matter what they do, the British way of life will carry on as normal. We don't harp on about it for sympathy.
If it's not done well I'd rather Hollywood leave these events alone.
+Greg Salcedo Agreed!! Some of these would be very dry viewing indeed.

There was a movie called " Farewell to Manzanar". A film about the internment of Nisei in the West. It was done in the 70's and it was shown on NBC.
Leicester City winning the EPL. Pretty sure that is going to be a movie soon, though.
Hollywood should do a film where my buddy scored three goals in a floor hockey tournament.
I thought that was a slice of Pizza on the thumbnail
Me too
+dvon1097 Yup.. got me too
radioactive pizza!!!
What a disappointment it must have been
Karla Sertic It made me cry on the inside
Space Shuttle Challenger disaster
7 different Astronauts died. Their families and back stories. The mission, they dared to achieve . The impact on history and a entire nation, maybe all of humanity.
With the right Direction and pacing, this could be a heart-wrenching/heart-warming film about all of us!
tienamen hollywood will never happend because china is one of the biggest market for movie and they will never show it.
+caribou3
You might be right. Still, Tienamen Square would be the top of my list that should be made, I don't care if it hurt China's feelings.
ho i was just saying from a buisness point of views it's not good to not have the second biggest money bringer to not show it but i would watch the fuck out that for sure.
Only like 5 of them annually and they are just the big blockbuster (Star Wars, Avengers, etc.). China isn't a concern for most movies.
+caribou3 it wouldnt need a 150 Million $ Budget and have insane CGI-Action packed 3D 4K Bullshit with famous actors. A smart director and good actors could make this a great movie with a relatively low budget.
+Joe the Sheep Problem is if the movie was made by hollywood it would be loaded with added bullshit that show how great america is...
Id like to point out a HUGE mistake you made mojo. You said "the worst terrorist attack in England since the Lockerbie Bombing"
Well it may not mean much to you but it does to us Scots... LOCKERBIE IS IN SCOTLAND
ONLY IF THAT GUY DIDN'T FUCKING TAKE A WRONG TURN WE WOULDN'T HAVE WWI or WWI
The war would happen eventually, the tension between the great forces(Britain,France,Germany,Russia,Austro-Hungary) was big
The assassination was just a trigger
+ArmyGaming I knew should've taken a left at Albuquerque
+M. Shwarzberg I that is the metaphor, than ok
+Kosta Jovanovic Yeah, but imagine if we didn't had the wars, we wouldn't have all the medicine knowledge and technological advances of today (I don't think it justifies, but it's something to think about)
+gaz88 you are replaying to the wrong person
Fascinating stories. They deserve adaptations.
America will put itself as the hero in all these movies.
+Emilio Aguirre no not really lol :P
+mr reality especially the Japanese American camps movie, not exactly a great moment in American history
I think the Okinawa Japanese kamikaze in World War 2 should be a movie
There should be more videos about serial killers like the zodiac or btk
There is a movie about the Zodiac killer.
+Tensai _9 is that Ted Cruz's life documentary? ya I think I heard about that
+Tensai _9 yea there should be more though...
+Bailey Dunlap who's that?
I remember Cary Elwes playing Ted Bundy in "The Riverman" back in 2004. It was a made for TV movie from A & E. Or Bio. Can't remember which of the now defunct channels it was.
I liked it. It was about the Green River Killer, and a good portion of the movie was about Ted Bundy helping law enforcement compile a profile of the killer. But like I said, it was made for TV. They don't seem to make too many films about ACTUAL serial killers. Ones like "Monster" are one of the few I can recall off the top of my head.
Some German movies include the fall of the Berlin wall, e.g. Goodbye Lenin. But a Hollywood movie detailing the actual events would be amazing!
We Need more British War Films...
Aren't there already movies about that?
No we dont
+B.S Productions ....What? Why? The Brits beat the ever-lovin' shit outta that horse after WWII.
mike112769 A - I didn't say WWII Necessarily.
The Manhattan Project
YOU LEFT OUT EASTER RISING!!! Me being of Irish decent and wanting to visit Dublin makes me want a movie about Ireland's revolutions. So maybe movie about Easter Rising or maybe a movie about the Irish Republican Army.
Lockerbie is in Scotland, not England.
There were TV movies about Chernobyl and the Jim Jones tragedy. In fact, Powers Booth won an Emmy for his portrayal of Jones.
Top 10 channels running out of ideas
#1 The Fine Bros
I didn't watch it at all
+Jonasz Koran-Mekka Now I am sure that no mater what video watchmojo put up people well still say they are running out of ideas.
I don't give a fuck xd
this whole video i was like, say the berlin wall, SAY THE BERLIN WALL
Please don't, it will be terrible. Let the countries where it actually happened make these movies, not in the least because of the language. You say 'deserve' like it is an honor.
I for one would love to see an EMU WAR film
Has jack the ripper been done?
In all honesty I'm surprised that these events don't have movies. As a historian I would LOVE to see all of these events put to film.
Pardon me are you Aaron burr sir?
That depends
+Goldflame33 Who's asking?
+Goldflame33 oh sure, Sir. I'm Alexander Hamilton
I'm at your service sir. I have been looking for you.
Sir
What about goodbye Lenin that was about the Berlin Wall
"Goodbye Lenin" is not Hollywood
StrasbergProtégé I thought they were just talking about movies in general, bridge of spies with Tom hanks is sort of about the Berlin Wall
lee brondum
Not about the fall of it though; the movie is set in 1960 or something
I would love to see a film about the events leading up to the Great Exhibition.
There is a Boston marathon bombing movie starring Mark Wahlberg they are currently filming now
Yes patriots day here it IMDb page www.imdb.com/title/tt4572514/
The Battle of Ramree Island in 1945. It should have perspectives of both the Japanese and the British.
Not only would it make an interesting war movie, but it also a great Crocodile flick- when the Japanese soldiers were crossing mangrove swamps infested with Saltwater Crocodiles, more than half of them were slaughtered, only 20 survived.
Make a movie about Trump as a president
They'll make one after he's assassinated
+Noodlepony :D
+Noodlepony
*shots fire into Trump's head.
70% of the population says YAY
It would be a nice horror movie :D
LOL😃
Chernobyl has had dozens of movies about it...and I agree, a movie about the events leading up to the disaster could be a story worth watching.
Unit #731.
+EDsavant this would be good
Eli Roth could do that
+EDsavant is there a movie about unit #731, is called "men behind the sun". Maybe a hollywood review could be soft and too much politically correct to show such horrible event.
+Jew Wizard it is the USA that got the information and let it slide
Watch Men Behind the Sun, although there definitely could be a better movie made from it
If I had to create a movie based off a real event, I have a couple in mind: the battle of Leyte Gulf and the battle of Jutland.
SABATON !!!
Here here
No, you capitulate. Do you guys still speak English?
So happy to see Aaron burr vs Alexander Hamilton. That would make such an epic film!!
Edison perfected the Light bulb! Heinrich Göbel made it but at the wrong time.
Stop overlooking him!
