    What they should have done with Polynesian is to build a tower or two behind the existing resort matching the Aulani Towers either having the Monorail go through it, or behind the Monorail. The Parking lot could be moved to to front of the towers (taking up some of WDW main parking lot). The area where they are currently building the towers could have been utilized to add more Long Houses and possibly additional pool and recreational areas. Obviously they should add a lot of 2 bedroom lockoffs (which could be split into 1BR and Studios) The 2 top floors of the towers would be perfect for 3BR Grand Villas and the whole thing should be integrated into the existing association so those who already bought will now have the option of getting 1, 2 and 3BR villas.

    You are 100% correct in the statement that when you upgrade to a better room class, you cannot go back.
    I have stayed at the Polynesian bungalows once and the Cooper creek Cabins once and now I really do not want to stay in anything lesser.
    Owning DVC allows me to stay in these accommodations easily.

    It definitely is reminiscent of 1970s basement tiki bar "rec rooms". But keeping that aesthetic in mind, I'm here for it :-)

    Great timing for this show. Poly is my home resort and doing my first Aulani stay next month.

    Can confirm the service at Ohana - was there early June, food was great but everything was piled out so quickly. Loved Trader Sam's - Everyone bought into the bit, and the bartenders remembered me several days after my first visit. I've never been to the DL location, but there charm was there for me.

    Despite staying at Aulani a few times, I still love the poly. It’s a classic Disney world resort and provides the classic Disney World experience. It has great dining and is a fantastic location on the monorail line. I’m doing a split stay in January, spending five nights there and then off to the grand Floridian for two nights and then another two at wilderness lodge copper creek.

    I love the Poly. The only negative for me is the lack of storage space. When we had three adults, I had the closest, husband had one drawer under the bed and our daughter had the other drawer under the bed. It needs a dresser.

    7:11 this exactly. The Poly isn't trying to emulate an "authentic" polynesian experience, it's a play on the height of mid-century obsession with American Tiki culture.

    One thing about Poly that nobody likes to talk about is the very high point chart. Everyone rags on Riviera for costing so many points per night, but Poly studios require many more points than Riviera or any other resort except maybe a Grand Floridian lake or theme park view room.

    I don't care if I never go to Ohana again. Last time we visited our table was bad and we were not only rushed but the service was awful. We all commented that it was because they knew the tip was included.

  • @timothyholt8600

    Amy Kreiger I must agree with you! I, too, used to think the Poly was tacky, and I couldn't get past the 70s Brady Bunch vibe! Now, love it and make a point to stay at least a few days a year. Only issue now is the high reach on the microwaves for my tiny 5'2" wife😂

    We all love the poly and it's easy take a break proximity to the park. We might love it too much as the public spaces are all way too small for the crowds. I think they should start connecting the long houses under glass canopies so they can build out more f&b. That tower is bringing a lot more people to the resort.

    Love the Polynesian Resort, and having the new DVC properties there might be enough to convince me to buy. Couldn't agree more about the need for a signature dining restaurant there. Kona Cafe is, without doubt, fantastic. One of my absolute favourite places to get a bite to eat at WDW. Ohana... is not good, for all the reasons Pete mentions.

    Hopefully, the new Towers will include a "Ohana" type restaurant to ease traffic on Ohana. A new Trader's Sam bar is needed. I hope some Polynesian influence is included in a more than a minimal way.
    I heard that a serious downside to the Bungalows was the ship horns. Is that an issue, especially on resort day?

  • @shannonmiller5618
    @shannonmiller5618 10 місяців тому +2

    My only concern is with the addition of the Poly tower. As WDW develops and grows they continue to cram more buildings in between the three monorail resorts. At this point there is very little space between the Poly towner and the Grand Floridian. This additional property could only serv to detract from the overall experience of both resorts. #disneymonygrab

      Agreed. A long term vision as someone else mentioned would have ben to have kept that as open space for recreational activities, pools, etc and built an even larger mini aulani on the other side of the beam

    How do you think the new tower will affect the pony charts? Will the original studios be valued the same points or less than the new rooms?

  • @bucketfootbaseball
    @bucketfootbaseball 10 місяців тому

    We don't do studios and the bungalow points chart is ridiculous, so the Poly is basically a no-go for us. Will have to see when the tower opens, but in general I'm not a fan of the idea of towers at WDW (now they make complete sense at DL).

    A question that wasn’t addressed-do you think resale points will be accepted to book at the new tower if it’s combined into the original Poly DVC contracts? I’m sure that if they make it a totally separate contract it will have restrictions like the Riviera.

    • @paulkrieger
      @paulkrieger 10 місяців тому +1

      If they combine the association they would not have the ability to make that restriction, similar to what we currently see with Grabd Floridian. Resale owners can book at the new GF rooms.

    It seems like we don't like the Poly because it's tacky and not a real representation of Pacific islands, but we also aren't allowed to update it because it's nostalgic.
    I'd personally love to see it closer to Aulani and an authentic resort. Tiki culture holds zero nostalgia to me and hasn't aged well.

  • @spectroman71
    @spectroman71 10 місяців тому

    I don't think the theory that the Marri-esian, a.k.a. Polyott Tower, was created to help bridge the gap between generations. Nope - it's about simply fitting more into less space and therefore going vertical. We've seen it with the Gran Destino Tower, the Riviera, BLT, and now this. I don't come to the middle of Florida to experience high rise resorts at a vastly sprawling resort like WDW. It's not a downtown environment. The new tower will undoubtedly be beautiful, with amazing rooms with great views, an awesome lobby, and maybe a signature experience on top, but the footprint is so out of place. I have zero doubts in my mind that, once resorts like OKW, Saratoga, Beach Club and Boardwalk mature; if they are NOT extended further, they'll be bulldozed and replaced with taller structures. Imagine the "Old Key West Tower", circa 2070. A Mardi Gras highrise replacing POFQ. Most of us will be gone by then, but mark my word ;)
