    I grew up in Amityville L.I. N.Y.My family fished and crabbed on the Great South Bay in Amityville.This is how we caught our crabs, with a dip net. Only difference is we went at night using a flashlight to spot the crabs when they attached their selves to the side of a dock.When we jack lighted a crab we then just scooped it off the pier piles etc. nice vid brings back memories

    Thank you very much! It's a great hobby. What we did for the traps which I didn't put in the video, we bought chicken at the store, put it in the trap in the water and then went to go crabbing. 3-4 hours later, we came back and retrieved our traps and I think we got about 9 crabs that day.

    we used to do this so much in panama city and bay county. hundreds each day! We used a recipe from a thai women that was married to a friend. lots of garlic cloves, paprika, thyme and olive oil. Then saute' hot - not water at all - for about 10 minutes depending on size of batch and pot. We would place then in upside down - their backs on the bottom. The spices and herbs and flavors are better absorbed that way the women said. Then add in some sweet white wine - not a lot. Salt and pepper and some red pepper flakes.
    Do this at about 9am and FEAST. Then drink the rest of the wine and go back to bed. At about 4pm, go snorkeling for oysters, stone crab claws, scallops and more crab. Then at 7pm, DIG IN again - but more beer.

    if u just put a bunch of seasoning in the water it steams the flavor in to them better than putting it on top of there shell

    I usually tie a string to a uncooked chicken leg and toss it in the water. When I feel something tug on it I pull it in and there is a Blue Crab hanging on. Be careful of the pinchers but just shake it off in a bucket. Works for me.

    down here in Louisiana most people just add crab seasonings, potatos, corn on cob, onions, ect to water and boil, then add crabs boil for 10 mins, then let soak a length of time depending on how spicy you want them

    • @infinitesunmoonstars
      @infinitesunmoonstars  9 років тому +1

      +phi nguyyen Doing this during the Florida rainy season is almost impossible because all of the fresh water being dumped into brackish water. This pushes all of the crabs further south towards the gulf into the saltwater. Plus, the water gets so high and disturbed that it's hard to see the crabs at all.

      If you want to catch big crab with little expense,try rigging a crab line.A crab line is just like a trout line,a long stretch of twine with your bait tied every 20 ft. or so and anchored at both ends.Do not use hooks for your bait,tie it in a fashion where the bait can be discarded if you wish or put the whole set up in a bag and freeze it for future use.The way it works is,you're gonna need a pole with a descent size nail through one end to make like a hook on the end of the pole to catch the line and when the crab gets close to the water surface scoop him up with a net.I'm sure you've heard the big dog eats first? Same thing with crabs,the big ones eat first.Hell I've caught them three at a time with this method.I used to be a commercial fisherman and used this exact method in places where there were poachers in the area stealing money off my table when I was trying to feed my family and pay bills.This method works excellent on the beach or long stretches of stream bank especially if you're on foot with no boat.This fishing method has been employed for ages and it works great.

    I hav never seen Blue Crabs cooked like this. In South Carolina, we boil them in water with the Old Bay Seasoning. Great Video by the way...

    • @craigfox6870
      @craigfox6870 8 років тому +2

      +ghostofmars83 If you're using old bay, the classic way is to steam the crabs, Use equal parts beer, water and vinegar, steam for 20ish minutes, and bam, good to go. They wont be as water logged as when you boil them. You can also throw in pieces of corn/ red potato pieces in the bottom of the pot as well. That's the Maryland way to cook crabs.

    • @ghostofmars83
      @ghostofmars83 8 років тому +1

      Craig Fox Thanks so much! I am going to try cooking it the way you suggest. Keep up the awesome videos!

    • @craigfox6870
      @craigfox6870 8 років тому +1

      ghostofmars83 no problem, just a modification, use a bit more water than beer, also you don't have to use good beer, old bud or Miller works just fine, and be sure to layer old Bay on each layer of crabs.

    To catch Blue Crabs like we did, with just nets, you just need a regular recreational fishing license. More specific details about the licenses, especially with using crab traps, can be found at the Florida Fish and Wildlife website. (UA-cam won't let me post the url for it in the comments.)
