I was considering upgrading to a Pentium Overdrive or a 5x86 from AMD or Cyrix, but I decided to stick with the 486 for this machine. I'm using a 150 MHz Pentium for my next machine, as my laptop can't emulate anything more powerful in 86box.
Around 2 million. For comparison, a modern CPU has more than 3 BILLION transistors, with workstation and server CPUs (Core i9, Ryzen 9, Xeon, EPYC) having transistor counts in the tens of billions. Some Apple CPUs even have over 100 billion transistors.
I think I have a Cyrex dx4 120 I had overclocked to 40 MGHzz FSB somewhere in my storage. (making it a bit faster than the 5v pentium)
