Oh man, out of all the off-grid cabin videos I've seen, this looks to be the most featured and practical. Instant whole house hot water from the tank. I looked up that hot water heater and it seems like an awesome price. I'm subscribed to learn more from your other videos, I hope to see how you did this all! Take care.

REALLY NICE BUILD!! While traveling through Maine, we were invited to breakfast at an off-grid house. They used wood chips in a 5-gallon bucket, in their bathroom. At this off grid house were 5 teenage boys. Needless to say, I had to do the doo, and thought for sure that if that bathroom already didn't smell like poop, it was about to. Those wood chips did the trick, I couldn't believe it.

I wonder if building something like this in northern Maine would work, or if how he did the pipes so they didn’t freeze would work. It gets mighty cold up there. I’d love to build something like this and he has the best, smartest ideas. Kudos to him ☝️

For your gravity fed shower head you could use the same type of manual valve used in Navy shower heads. Open the valve, get wet, close the valve, scrub up, open the valve again & rinse off. No wasted water. (important if you're hand carrying the water)

But I've gotten some great bits of info on how I'm going to add on a 5x8 shower, toilet and storage space. I'll run a roof 18 ft wide across the back of cabin and end up with two covered storage areas on either side of the addition. Roof line will match the short side of the saltbox style

I found I had winter freezing issues in my faucets. A very small amount of water stayed inside the valve and would blow out when it froze. For two winters I had to rebuild two sink faucets and a shower faucet. After that I removed them in the fall and replaced in the spring. I'm confident there is a better solution but tis worked for me.

I've been considering many ideas but loving your shower propane n electric set up. I'm gonna put in a wood stove, propane heater, Kitchen sink, cabinets, propane stove and probably a unique refrigerator. Probably going to get a well drilled up in the field above the cabin and use it to fill an IBC tote and use gravity to the cabin with a 12 volt pump there. Probably also going to use a solar generator and some panels for electric.

As this job will be on me and it may take a while, I'd like to buy and build as I go, even laying out and cutting my framing at home before transferring the materials to the actual build site. My wife and I attended a tiny home workshop 2 years ago and the instructor had proposed initially bringing the whole job materials list to the contractor desk at Lowe's or Home Depot to get a total job quote. As storage for the whole job is problematic for me as well as a financial outlay, how much money am I potentially losing by piece mealing this job like I plan to do?

I don't think you are losing anything. Just try to enjoy yourself and do what you can when you can.

Love what you have done with your upgrades!
I am guessing that shower is a Mustee brand? Only kit I have ever found that can "stand alone" and comes with pretty much all you need. What is your opinion of it?
How large of a 13 volt pump did you use? Brand?
I have a camplux water heater but the opening at the top looks like a louvered vent- rectangular. Are you of aware of any way I could create or purchase something to set it up to vent out like yours?
    Thanks!

Very nice! I hope I can start building one like this. How you avoid mositure build up especially in the bathroom?
