Im a laborer for a plumbing company. I just passed my 90 days and earned a raise ($23/hour now) my boss tells us that after about a year of doing labor we can start running calls and make much more money. Here in San Francisco plumbers can make about as much as doctors… at my company not a single plumber makes under $100k, honestly they make closer to $200k. This got me really interested in becoming a plumber, youre channel is gonna be a game changer for me.
for a vertical soil drain do i need the whole thing to be cast iron or just the bottom at the fitting if i am trying to reduce sound. Water dropping from upstairs unit behind a wall downstairs unit behind a bedroom. ?
Great video. I was looking for a video showing a clean cut on cast iron using a snap cutter I swear it's impossible lol(I'm still learning). Where I'm at 2 1/2in pipe an under is 1/4in slope 3-6in pipe is 1/8in slope. An in our code book it talks about too much slope can cause the water to outrun the waste leading to a potential clog.
Because ABS is often a recycled or “regrind” plastic resin (to make it cost-competitive with PVC), it was essentially weakened. This caused instances of pipe fatigue and failure which led some areas to ban its use. Essentially, it's not as durable as once thought.Dec 21, 2022
@@clintdavis9511 yeh i mean i no both will work but here in Florida it’s taught to use no hub bands when connecting two peices of cast iron and furncos when going cast to pvc or pvc to pvc...not sure if its code or just taught that way
If you love back breaking labor! 5 year apprenticeship then about $24 an hour. 2 packs a day minimum, a joint at break, another at lunch along with a 40oz Bud Ice. After 10 years or so you will need 20mg Oxycodone every 4 hours.
@@stirlingstark1983 Wow! I performed commercial plumbing off and on for 25 years. Have you ever cut up concrete and dug a 4 feet trench by hand? Cut out 60 year old cast iron and galvanized in a crawlspace and drug it out to replace it with PVC and/copper or pex water lines?
this guys saying plumbers tape and i was thinking how tf are you holding that up with teflon tape, then i saw what he called plumbers tape and i'm like ohhhhh hes referring to metal strapping hahaha

Can you use cast-iron on the exterior of the house like the backyard?
Yes
Great video thanks for the proper sizing tip. Does that apply to 6 inch cast iron and above?
Hey I always get confused . For cast iron pipe 3” or lower the slope is 1/4 and for 4” or higher it’s 1/8 ?
Correct
I've seen a lot of plumbers do 1/8 inch for everything.
Where do you buy that? the cast iron pipe?
Very good explanation . Thank you

This is extremely helpful for me, thanks for the great video! Can you do things like transition to pvc? Is there a special no hub connector for that?
Its called a no hub band.
A furnco is used to go from cast iron to pvc...no hub bands connect cast to cast
@@dailleztj Either will work.

I have a question. I am 32 years old...am I too old to get started in plumbing? I am looking to join my local plumbers union.

Plus, your idea of pay is way off

Nah, never too old to start
we have a 52 year old 1st year apprentice at our plumbing company

The technical name for the metal strapping is plumbers tape, often confused with Teflon tape. Teflon tape is not plumber tape.
Thanks
I'm just plumb crazy. I'm not certified I'm certifiable. Cast, copper, pvc, cpvc, pex, we don't use abs around here. I use an impact.
Lost your right audio feed (if anyone is listening on headphones) when you start explaining proper pipe slope
