      Really enjoy your videos! I've been growing veg for years but I've picked up so many tips from you. Everything's just straight to the point! I'm busy collecting egg shells and I'm now big into nematodes! 😁 amazing what you can learn from a Welsh man!

      Just watched your video on pruning grape vines. I have a black Hamburg (I think) planted about 15 years ago but do not get any grapes. Not sure where I am going wrong.
      The plant is extremely vigorous but never any grapes. I prune hard every Spring but probably not exactly correctly. Any advice please.

    I had trained my vines (Kiwi and grape) using similar methods and am only now seeing your video. The only difference, is that my vines are outdoors and I substituted washing line instead of wire as not to transmit frost/ cold. I use the Velcro tape for fastening all things that need bringing to order, it is my favourite product - quick, easy and re-usable. I have trained the Kiwi as a fan shape and the grape in a simple Y as it has to work around existing plants. I have bigger ideas than I have space. As both my plants are new, showing good progress thus far, I am open minded as to whether they will survive an Upper Rhondda winter! Fingers crossed at this point. Great video thanks.

    I'm so happy you made this! My grapes are in a slightly different setup-just espaliered against trellis and I was trying to figure out how to train them to the height of 8-10 feet tall with multiple cordons/arms. I also have Glendora, and Jupiter, Einset and reliance. I'm already onto the 2018 update and hopefully you've done one each year so I can see how beautifully yours have filled in.

    I planted 3 grape vines outside (I live in middle of France), but my shetland pony got out of her field in the autumn and decided to munch the tops and then had even more fun pulling them up! She gave my young climbing roses a similar treatment, but luckily I was able to find where she'd scattered them and was able to replant them. God knows where the grapes are though - lol

    I've got just moved into my late father's place and he has 6 x 30 year old grape vines growing in the greenhouse. It's been left to it's own devices for the last 15 years so I've cut it right back and will try your method of espaliering. The vines are cuttings from the Hampton Court grapevine - when I was a child our next door neighbour was a gardener at Hampton Court and my dad kept and continued the cuttings he was given.

I’m in Minnesota and I think you can understand the short growing season. Please, I understand you have no time to answer questions, but if you do: what are the basic vegetables grown in a green house? Does it prevent insects?

I am growing 2 lateral to go the length of the greenhouse, but they are not long enough yet. • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  6 років тому +1

      Paul, they sound to me like grape pearls. Grape pearls are small sap-like, fluid-filled balls that are exuded from surface cells of rapidly growing grape vines. They appear most commonly in the spring and are often confused with mite or insect eggs. Some vines have many grape pearls but the pearls can appear singly or in smaller groups. They are usually found on the underside of leaves but can be on shoots as well. Grape pearls, also called "sap balls" are of no consequence to the vine I will place a pic in the community section for you to take a look, they can be clear through to milky

    Thank you Simplify Gardening. I would like to know where to sign up for your Facebook group and anywhere else you would recommend. I live in Hawaii, just moved here three years ago from Utah. I secured five niabell cuttings, which is a Concord grape hybrid that has a shot of growing here. My plants are now a year old, only three seem to have survived. One is only about 12” long, with growth coming only from one spot about 7” up. Two are about two feet tall, with lots of leaves. One has two main branches, 12-15” tall. One has one branch about 18” y’all. Another cutting grew extensive roots but nothing at all is on it currently. I’m not seeing any sign of life. The cutting is woody and about 18” tall.

    Really helpful video on how to prepare the structure for a grape vine. I've just put a greenhouse on the allotment ready for next year to grow a vine. However I have no idea which species to get! I want a hardy, mildew resistant, reliable, good cropping red I can make wine from and eat.... and also less seeds the better for the kids! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  7 років тому +1

      Hi Catherine, no grape is ideal for eating and wine, they are both different types the tannins needed for wine would make the grape bitter to eat. Crimson is a great red grape for eating and seedless. and Merlot would be great for wine

    • @vicpivo
      @vicpivo 7 років тому

      Thanks really useful - I think I may stick with wine from my vine. I wasn't sure about Merlot because of the yield and potential for disease. What are these new hybrid Reds like - Regent, Rondo et. al? I quite like the sound of Rondo!

    • @simplifygardening
