We adopted our 5, sold our big house in suburbia, moved to an old farm on 26 acres. We now raise rabbits, sheep, chickens, pigs and grow much of our own food. We all learn at home and our kids ferment, preserve and do many wonderful things with our food. I agree 100%. Best life ever!!

Great video. Thank you for not using excessive technical, advanced terminology. After all, people who seek advice are on this site because they are not experts. Experts who understand deeply technical verbiage will not be on instructional sites. I spent time in California acquiring real estate used for developing easement and rights-of-way for utilities from Mexico to Canada. In dealing with vineyard owners and growers, I made every attempt to learn growing techniques. Now retired, I am growing muscadine grapes, which are native to my area (southern Louisiana). Many sites bombard viewers with technical terms that are, of course, foreign and/or confusing to beginners. Now retired and owning acreage, I have time to devote to growing fruit trees, grapes and lots of annual vegetables as well. My intention is to grow several grape varieties as my skill and knowledge increases.

Thank you so much for your wonderfully clear and informative tutorial - it’s an example of teaching at its very best. As an complete novice to pruning grape vines, I now know what to do. Many thanks.
Thank you for this straightforward video. I have a small piece of land in New York with some well established vines that have been allowed to totally overgrow They appear to be fairly healthy otherwise. Since I really have no knowledge, this is a good video to show me how to start and how far I can go in pruning.
Thank you! I am new to growing grapes. We only have two plants we planted last year on either side of a small arbor. I'm really hoping to take good care of them and enjoy grapes for years to come! Thanks again! God Bless!
Thank you for your UA-cam channel. I’ve been doing it wrong all these years, simply because I was intimidated to prune too much and had no idea the science behind it. You explained it so well!!!
Thank you so much! Just moved onto a new property and we have grapevines growing all over the trees nearby. I was afraid of cutting the really long vines as I’m seeing leaves growing, but now I see I can and should cut them back. It’s early spring and I suppose this is a good time to do this. Again, thanks!
You give me confidence to take on my mess. We moved to this house four years ago and the grape vines were lying on the ground, and had been for awhile. The first year we brutally chopped them, and had no fruit at all. Probably didn't leave any knuckles! I love that term. I'm ready to give it another try--though I'm still afraid! lol We are in WA, so it's time to do it, but not too late. I didn't prune last year at all due to the lack of fruit the year before. The vines are no longer on the ground, but they are seriously twisted from who-knows-how-long on the ground. I'm taking some cuttings this year to start a fresh area (better suited) and plant grow them up an arch.
I am so excited for you Charlene!!! Show your vines some love and they will love you back...:) I hope to see your before and after photos...You can tag us on instagram under Vlada's_seeds_of_life....All the best, Vlada
This is probably the best vine pruning video I have seen so far In UA-cam. Thank you! Just moved into a 400 year old property in Oxford uk and There is a very old vine growing on the cottage wall! Will be fun to implement these tips!
I don't like the technical language coming from most of the vine growers, either. I'm trying to understand how to grow grapes, and how to prune them, and you helped me more in this video than the previous 3 videos I watched today. My mind is kind of stubborn, so I'll watch everything more than once. After all, repetition is the mother of all learning. Thanks!
What I’d love to learn is how to START pruning the first year. I kept a main branch last winter but now I have millions of branches growing from everywhere…
I would suggest you pick few branches off of the main branch (3-4 the most) and let the vine grow from there. I would get the rid of the rest. All the best, Vlada
Great Pruning propaganda :) This is a great tutorial, as you show what is important while also showing that there is room for experimenting. My neighbor has wonderful grapes growing over his fence into my yard, and I wanted to prune them in a way to both control the foliage, yet have lots of grapes. I was feeling intimidated by all of the other grape growing tutorials, but you help a lot by showing what is important, and that there is room to not be perfect. Thank you.
Thank you! I'm in Orange County, CA. with similar weather as you in Temecula. I planted young vines this spring and they've grown nicely. Thank you for your video on trimming and I'll be looking for more of your helpful videos!
I don't have enough space for a vineyard. I'm currently growing Concord grapes, in Murrieta, CA. From the only established vine, the 2022 harvest yielded about 20 to 30 lbs of grapes. Beyond that, this grapevine pruning video is very helpful.
