I'm diggin it Eddie! I just rediscovered Johnny and now, can't get enough. This video is extremely helpful to me Brother! Thank you, so so much! I enjoyed the video Very Much!
Thanks for making this. I seen Johnny twice the first time Lynyrd Skynyrd opened for him at our local civic center and three or four years later he played in a small bar. The place was sold out and my friend and I needed to sneak in jumping through an open window. That was the best show. I was only two or three feet from him ripping it up. This all took place in the 70s. He is a legend. RIP
Thank You for posting this on Johnny Winters, I don't think enough is said about him and his playing he was one of the great ones, he love to do a lot of different ways to do things, the first lick Eric Clapton used many times in fact he took a lot from Johnny , as we all take from one another, hopefully we eventually find our own style.
Hey Brooks, I found this version from some local band doing a live radio show in 1978...If you dig Johnny winter, these guys, especially Dave fiester who sang and did all the slide guitar, did a killer version...Audio only....Rockin Out and Mean Town Blues Dave Fiester vocals Tight Shoes Live!
The late Dave Fiester was a monster player. Saw him many times around Central Florida back in the day starting with Tight Shoes, then Henry Paul Band & finally the Groove Monsters. He made it look easy. RIP big Dave.
Brooks Mason - dude yes! I know throwing in the 3rd and touching on some mixo is the way to go in general but I can’t find good videos on YT that shows some solid examples. Just want to add some jazz flavor and sophistication to blues licks.
A good example is I hate everybody from Second Winter. That was his jazziest playing in my opinion. Tone in the fingers and such clean playing, such clarity and taste. He was one of m main guitar heros with Clapton Hendrix and Santana growing up in the 60s-70s as a guitarist.
I’m not able to play it well enough yet to make a video but here’s a good attempt at the tab. I’m sure it’s not perfect note for note but I think it’s pretty close. ua-cam.com/video/8dyRu1tt34U/v-deo.html
Brooks Mason Oh my god yes, I imagine some of them going nuts while listening to a lick that they never heard before and trying to figure it out with no visual reference
Thanks for the great vid the great guitar work and especially giving a shit. Johnny played a lot with chorus effect and used a thumb pick regularly also. I'll be subscribing right now. Oh yeah and I hope you found the dough to fix your music man.
Johnny’s speed had to do with the fact that he played with a thumb pick and his fingers, so….. yes his intuitive phrasing was masterful. but if you skip over Chuck Berry and all you’re getting the cart before the horse. all the greats, including Johnny Winter, listened to everybody.
No, you will never get close on the amplification. I've seen and met Johnny and seen him a number of times. In every setting. Whatever you have in the club, I've seen him play through it. I'm guessing the kids about 30 years too late. But hell, I always love to see another person show me another way to play it! Thanks Bro!
Nice advice on the way Johnny used octaves. Did so many times on Be Careful With A Fool. Thanks E9V.
The first guitar player i ever saw was Johnny winters great guitar player
Johnny is great i saw him in 87 brilliant show.
Nice to hear somebody your age know so much correct information about Johnny and great guitar playing.
Terrance Fields thanks for the kind words!

Very nice job. First saw Johnny in august of 70. Bobby Caldwell (Captain Beyond) was new to JWA. Winter and Derringer were red hot! Thanks for this!

I liked it
That’s a nice amp!
That second quick lick is very similiar to the one jimmy page used to play :)
Facundo Rodriguez Could you imagine the days of no UA-cam and all the old players just listening to each other emulating the vinyls. Crazy
Brooks Mason Oh my god yes, I imagine some of them going nuts while listening to a lick that they never heard before and trying to figure it out with no visual reference
@@Eddie9V the plural of vinyl is... vinyl. : )
Great video!
Killer info thanks
Not a guitarist, but I appreciate you channeling Johnny Winter. Whoa!
Na it's basic
JW used a thumb pick.
You could just steal a bunch of Johnny winter licks
I think Johnny used fender amps.
You forgot Johnny's Erlewine Lazer.
I think Johnny used Vox amps wher he recorded the Still alive and Well album
wow that makes a lot of sense!!
Good lesson, you got his style down pretty good . I'm a life long JW fan too. Check out me attempting JJF on my YT page.
Nice...p90,s...goldtop..just koooool... Early Freddie King..yaa

John OBeirne wow I didn’t really think of that! And nope still just bluesin’ it. Haven’t found the dough yet!
Check out "Johnny Winter Blues Lesson" UA-cam video. 5:09 min. Don't know how to paste hyperlink. have a good one

Show us that vibrato!
Is that a Gibson Goldtop with P90s? What year is that?
Yes sir!! 2011 Gibson Les Paul trad pro with a lollar in the bridge and a original 53 in the neck.
Easy get a 120w amp so it tears paint off the walls just before it starts to break up

kool dude me likes!!!
key of B flat
Did Johnny mainly use the Pentatonic scale ?
Blues scale and panatonics
Welcome back
Lee Kempson thanks Lee!

I appreciate the fact that you’re explaining that pedal but nobody can sound alike anybody no matter what you use. Maybe similar but not just like
winter in chattanooga. large music man hd 2x 12's. here is amp e.q. all pots to zero except volume at 9.5 and treble at ten.wow, he was Loud !
I've seen him at least 15 times always used music man with 4 10s
That tone sounds more like Clapton than Winter. Especially your excellent vibrato. Also, Winter would play really fast on a slow blues.
It sounds like shit When you try to play like Jw.... Thankyou..!! 🎸
I struggle with Johnny Winter...Trying to play like him ain't no day at the beach.....Nice job though..Good to see a young cat dig JW...!
@@mariamgomez5806 yes i belive your right... Thankyou....
Too much talk. bye
Are you that dimwitted or have too much of a short attention span to learn how to fast forward through the video?
