Great video and great playing. You have great taste! Anyone who is into Mike Bloomfield is a serious blues guitar player. He was a highly influential, extremely talented guitarist, unfortunately with a tragically short life. He is not appreciated today like he should be.
as a teenager playing poorly but having a ton of fun in an 80's garage band, i did not envision a future of 24/7/365 knowledge and enjoyment from guitar lessons by guys half my age.
Very nice of you to share Mike Bloomfield stuff. How about Work Song! You might wanna show a little of that Bloomfield version too. You play well to say the least. Thanks
I love how Bloomfield links his notes/runs together. I mean like a lot of blues leads have big pauses, but he just seemed to keep them going a lot of times.
One could argue that pre Super Session Mike had a tendency to overplay. Now, Mike overplaying is still better than 99% of the things out there, but letting notes breathe is what hits the spot..I think Greeny was king of this. But cue "His Holy Modal Majesty" and does he play his arse off... RIP MIKE
You nail it ! Great touch, great tone :) MB is an underrated blues guitarist that I miss a lot. His SuperSession album with Al Kooper and Stephen Stills is monumental ! Cheers man
I knew Michael; He'd tell you to play your blues but he also said often that he was all B.B.King! I saw Michael Jam with BB and Super Session at the Fillmore East, that was an incredible night as were all the Super Session gigs I attended. Go listen to Maryann as that is some of his sweetest most subtle playing also listen to Between a Hard place and The Ground the way he kicks that off soloing. You're doing great playing Eddie and couldn't be following a better mentor even if he's no longer with us..
Love it man thanks. Ever thought of tabbing these licks? Probably a lot of hassle. I haven't checked out your other vids yet but demo will. Have you thought of doing a video on the licks Bloomfield plays on the Dylan tracks he plays on? I for one would love to learn that stuff.
Nice to see Bloomfield being "kept alive" by the younger generation. I'm 69 and remember the Electric Flag days like it was yesterday. I have most of his recordings and just bought the box set that has the documentary with Carlos Santana, Bill Graham, etc speaking about him. He was so intelligent. Such as shame he died. He had so much more to give us.
Hey bud-you got it going on! Michael is my all time favorite guitarist 🎸 and Rory Gallagher is #2. You did a good job with his style. Keep up the good work. 🙂
I love Bloomfield and was lucky enough to see both Super Session and The Electric Flag bak in the day. I enjoy your videos, Eddie, but how about slowing it down for us amateurs and maybe including tab so we can follow you and learn???
Hello Eddie! Thanks for video! I am 66 years old and love him too! Question , that appears to be a 52 or 53 trapese goldtop. Though there are no barrel knobs on the guitar. The headstock script looks new. A repro? Some of the new Historics are like the oldies. Owned 2 1960 Les Pauls. The Wildwood Brazilian fret board Les Paul is dead on with what came of the Factory!
Nice to see such a youth keeping Mike's memory alive. That second part - it's inspirational. Shredding like Mike - Brooks - get the Lost Filmore recording and compare MB's solo to Johnny Winter's and let me know what you think. Nice job!
only recognize one Bloomfield lick sir. wow did you hit the marching powder right before the video. AS with Santana when i heard super session it change my guitar playing for ever.
The last one works better on a Tele IMO. He kinda stopped doing that so much by the time he got the sunburst LP (though the Unicorn Coffeehouse gig reveals he was still doing it on the goldtop for awhile).
I could hear one or two notes and know it was Mile. That Whole step bend with vibrato most iconic Michael Bloomfield. If you're not a Bloomfield fan then you're not familiar with his work. He was one of the finest guitarist of his generation. Not convinced? Listen to him on Janis Joplin's, "One Good Man" and you will understand what a monster that kid was.
Bloomfield was realy underrated. Clapton took the wind out of Bloomfield's sail with volume screeching marshalls. No doubt, Carlos Santana's greatest influence came from Bloomfield before he moved from blues, aka Santana blues band, to latin Influenced rock. That's when blues pretty much disappeared from pop music.
Thanks Jim! I am using the cheapest of cheap bedroom Crate 5w solid state amp! If you really wanna nail his tone any fender tube amp will do! Don't forget to check out my other videos.Take care,Brooks
Nice video. Bloomfield had several iconic phrases. These seem less iconic than some of the ones I enjoy most. Ever heard him play MaryAnn? Near end of solo listen for quick burst of notes reminiscent of Eric Clapton's signature lick that he milks. Mike played it once and that was enough for him. Milking fast phrases was not his style unlike SRV, Clapton and the myriad players that followed. He had an musical honesty that puty musicality over showmanship. Love Clapton, SRV, Albert King, Robbin. 2 cents worth.
Really nice job Brooks!! Ive been playing guitar for quite a while but just started listening to Bloomfield. I have so many other influences that reference Bloomfield I just thought I wouldn't pick up a lot. But that was really stupid - i should have listened long ago! He is phenomenal but moire than technically awesome it's his (probably chemically induced) energy. He really lived the Blues and it's great to see a young man like yourself also interested in the Blues and Blues Giants! Subscribed! All the best.
Thanks man! Bloomfield was the first guitar player I gravitated to. Before Clapton, Beck, or anybody. It was just something about his style that stuck out to me when i was 15. Is he the best? No. Flashiest? No. But to Bloomers fans he was just the real deal man. I try to expose Bloomfield as much as I can to new guitar players!
I’ve often noticed differences in the compliance of strings (articles have been written on this recently, some have referred to this as “tension” but thats not technically accurate) when changing the break angle behind the bridge. I notice the biggest differences myself going between the maestro or using the bridge as a wraparound on my ‘67 Gibson [SG] Melody Maker, or when using a “buzzstop” on a Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster. Nice “conversion” btw, ditching the poker chip and using the trapeze give it an early look. I got the Historic truss cover for my 2005 standard so I can dig it.
This is so funny...he doesnt sound like Bloomie AT ALL to me...he DOES sound alot like Jimmy Page....I give him that. Also, it' clear this kid can play.
get a guitar strap stop being so nervous and play some real Bloomfield licks. i know he changed my whole style of playing when i heard super session and as the great Santana said " when i heard Michael play he changed my life"
Thanks Johnny, I will get a strap soon. However, if you truly know Miichael, he was nervous all the time partly because he was on a lot of drugs lol Listen to him as he introduces the band at the fillmore and you can tell he was really nervous and spaced out. So just trying to be more like Mike I guess. Take care.
hey just so you know he was a heroin addict thats why Steven stills and Shuggie Ottis had to finish super session album he coulden,t find any junk in La so he went back to bay area
Brooks, many thanks for your love of Mike. That being said, you offer nothing with respect to insight as to his approach. Last, get rid of that Les Paul. It appears to be a early 50's trapeze model. Sell it to a collector.
Doesn't look like an early LP to me. It doesn't have the dished maple top, and the trapeze tailpiece isn't original. I owned a '52, and it has a whole different look.
Thanks denAlexVA, But before Mike owned his 59 lp he traded his tele to get a early 50s goldtop before trading that one for the 59. There's a couple pics on google. But, I am keeping this bad boy. best guitar ive owned. Thanks for the kind words! Have a great day!
Cool for a young kid to be tapped into Bloomfield. There is hope yet.
"tapped into" and NAILING it like a BOSS!
This is terrific. Great licks, great lesson. Consider me subscribed. Love the gold top with the P90s too!
Thanks!
Beautiful licks and explanation!!
Great video and great playing. You have great taste! Anyone who is into Mike Bloomfield is a serious blues guitar player. He was a highly influential, extremely talented guitarist, unfortunately with a tragically short life. He is not appreciated today like he should be.
Thanks brother , been woodsheddin a lot of blues and I love Bloomfield too so much. So underrated. Thank you . I'm subscribed. 👍
Great licks! Been listening to Bloomfield for years. Love his playing.
This is the first person I've seen on youtube who actually brought up Mike Bloomfield!
Thanks!
Really... not many people know about Mike, my friend...and specially young rubes.
this guy does a fine job ua-cam.com/video/nQGJ494WyFA/v-deo.html
as a teenager playing poorly but having a ton of fun in an 80's garage band, i did not envision a future of 24/7/365 knowledge and enjoyment from guitar lessons by guys half my age.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video!
Very nice of you to share Mike Bloomfield stuff. How about Work Song! You might wanna show a little of
that Bloomfield version too. You play well to say the least. Thanks
Nice playing ...and great taste.....Mike Bloomfield is defiantly one of my personal favorites...cheers!
Keep it up! Sounds really nice.
great licks and also the les paul sounds great!!!
Hell ya man, I love Bloomfield
very impressed, great playing !
Very nice Thank you for slowing it down for us, We are not all naturals
You are such a great feel player brother. I enjoy the tutelage
I love how Bloomfield links his notes/runs together. I mean like a lot of blues leads have big pauses, but he just seemed to keep them going a lot of times.

I recently got into Mike Bloomfield too. I like your videos. Keep beating on them strings
You nail it ! Great touch, great tone :) MB is an underrated blues guitarist that I miss a lot. His SuperSession album with Al Kooper and Stephen Stills is monumental ! Cheers man

Way to go. Not too much talk and you can really play. Short and very sweet. Cool. Thanks for sharing.
Really great. You clearly know Bloomfield's style well 👍
Thanks man!
Excellent 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I don't say this about many youtubers but you're a great player and have great taste, man. Your right hand technique is excellent. Keep on rockin.
Great video
Three words brother... I LIKE IT.
Thanks man!
Fantastic stuff...also worth mentioning is the second lick appears on Lowell Fulson song Reconsider Me...great guitar playing here...
very nice, thanks!
Yea I thought about it. But it is a lot of work. Maybe if I fine the time one day.
👍💪👏 kind regards from berlin 👋
awesome licks great tone...keep em coming!!
Thank you will do!
Nice job well played sir
Ok,!! Slow down a little; it is hard for us old guys to get it. Your dedication is awesome. "The Rock"

Excellent playing.Bloomfield one of my early guitar heroes. Check out his guitar on Texas and Killing Floor with Electric Flag
There's a Bloomfield solo on a muddy and the wolf album can't loose wat u ain't never had. That be a great video
That was great. Thank you, Mr. Mason.
Thanks Dr. Benton! Glad you enjoyed it!
Bloomfield rules!!!
There will never be another Michael Bloomfield.
There will not! All hail Bloomers!
I love Bloomfield and was lucky enough to see both Super Session and The Electric Flag bak in the day. I enjoy your videos, Eddie, but how about slowing it down for us amateurs and maybe including tab so we can follow you and learn???

Thanks man! Bloomfield was my first guitar hero. I remember listening to Alberts Shuffle and just going nuts!
👏👍👌😎🎄🦫🎸🎉🇺🇸 nice axe
Q: How much reverb do you want?
A: Yes.
Good job brother
only recognize one Bloomfield lick sir. wow did you hit the marching powder right before the video. AS with Santana when i heard super session it change my guitar playing for ever.
Thanks for this
Can you do more
Also
Can you change camera position so we can see finger on string
For the novices
Love Mike Bloomfield
Well done man! I really like your playing and tone! Let the haters hate.. They are only just envious. Keep up the great stuff :-)
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed the video! Have a great day!
I like your content. I subscribed
Thanks Hunter!
nice tone!
Thanks its just a Crate!
sounds nice, i want a guitar with p90s, yet another guitar i would like lol
Can you play the fill on Dylan's "I Want You"?
Michael Bloomfield was not just a brilliant guitarist but influenced so many other American guitarist.
Do the early years with a telecaster.. All those kool licks..
I do need to do that!
The last one works better on a Tele IMO. He kinda stopped doing that so much by the time he got the sunburst LP (though the Unicorn Coffeehouse gig reveals he was still doing it on the goldtop for awhile).
Ellie Bean marry me.
Ya the tele Iicks r kool..great playing.... Butterfields first lp....wicked..lol ..
Great points ! which Gibson is it ? sounds fantastic
Like is the operative word.
NOBODY CAN PLAY MICHAEL AS WELL AS MICHAEL!!!!
Brooks' fingers are just oozing with tone! What's your amp? Reminds me of a Fender Concert II (eary 80s, Paul Rivera days).
Jonathan L hey man it’s just a crappy 25$ crate practice amp. Lol
are you tuned down 1/2 step?
I could hear one or two notes and know it was Mile. That Whole step bend with vibrato most iconic Michael Bloomfield.
If you're not a Bloomfield fan then you're not familiar with his work. He was one of the finest guitarist of his generation.
Not convinced? Listen to him on Janis Joplin's, "One Good Man" and you will understand what a monster that kid was.
Lord have mercy you can smoke that guitar
Why did you put that tailpiece on that Les Paul ?? Were you trying to make the string tension easier ???
Honestly to make it look more like a 50s Paul. No playability reason at all. 😂
Killin' Floor - Electric Flag.
What kind of Gibson les Paul is that?
SiC 😎
Thank you for sharing, some fine Bloomfield licks! What amplifier you using?
Thanks Jim! I am using the cheapest of cheap bedroom Crate 5w solid state amp! If you really wanna nail his tone any fender tube amp will do! Don't forget to check out my other videos.Take care,Brooks
Goes to prove one can have a great tone with a crappy 5W practice amp : it's all in the hands ! Well done Brooks \m/
No one should have to use those small crate amps...I feel the pain main.
Thats all it takes, baby. No fuss. Love it.
Nice tone! Can I ask what amp/pedal you are using?
Mike Bloomfield was and is simply greatest white blues guitarist ever.
Witch strings and gauge?
is this half step down tune?
Who's number one...Michael, Freddie, ????
Just because you can play it, don't mean you feel it. Bloomfield did both. None better.
Listen to Bloomfield on Electric Flag's first album -- no one's come close to what Bloomfield's doing there.
Got it on vinyl!
Really nice job Brooks!! Ive been playing guitar for quite a while but just started listening to Bloomfield. I have so many other influences that reference Bloomfield I just thought I wouldn't pick up a lot. But that was really stupid - i should have listened long ago! WHAT AMP AND SPEAKER i must know LOL
idigmusic believe it or not it’s a solid state crate practice amp
No more coffee for you .
Are you tuned down?
yes a half step!
5th not 4th...??
Is that an original 52?
Haha I wish! Its a 2011 Traditional.
Just curious why you have a trapeze tail piece as opposed to stop tail
Just looks honestly. It sounds a little different but its just there for looks.
Just for looks honestly! There is no sound difference.

You said Mike Bloomfield more Times than there was notes in this video
seems that your guitar is tuned a half step down
whoops
Nice...ish.
Ill take it!
This is so funny...he doesnt sound like Bloomie AT ALL to me...he DOES sound alot like Jimmy Page....I give him that. Also, it' clear this kid can play.
This dude is wound up....like a Timex..............
Eddie, you must use tabs; otherwise the lessons are 99%^ wasted on virtually everyone. Which is a pity because you play with such passion.
get a guitar strap stop being so nervous and play some real Bloomfield licks. i know he changed my whole style of playing when i heard super session and as the great Santana said " when i heard Michael play he changed my life"

Ignore the comments concerning guitar straps. He was also known for not using a guitar case.
hey just so you know he was a heroin addict thats why Steven stills and Shuggie Ottis had to finish super session album he coulden,t find any junk in La so he went back to bay area
Thank you I read that in the book by David Dann you should check it out
how to play like mike bloomfield: listen to b.b. king and take heroin
siendo un buen guitarrista pierdes mucho tiempo hablando y eso cansa...sorrry
lamentablemente hablas mucho ...y tocas poco...
what a waste
Glad you enjoyed it!
