Yep, it looks like I'll be picking up Gates now that you've effectively OBSOLETED my copy of Gate, Mr. Phour. : ) Seriously though, I had no idea Glover had done more work on Gate, mostly because I'd been picking up his additional stuff for Iron Helm. Thanks so much for showcasing the dramatic improvements to Gate! And I'm very happy to see a second playthough posted and waiting for me to watch. So glad to have you back at it, my friend!
What a great game! I'm starting to like deck-builders 🤔 The first deck-builder game I played was Clank! and I enjoyed it a lot (haven't played any expansions yet, but had a blast playing Catacombs and its solo campaign). So, I'm sure I'll enjoy playing this one every once in a while 😁 Also, the added variety of the expansion and promo cards add a lot of replayability to the game, which is awesome! 🤩
Great video as always! One thing I noticed is that you were adding damage to the gates when reaching the tower square on the Fearamid, which, I think, would have gotten your tower destroyed at some point 🤔 It's interesting to see how much damage you were doing during the whole game thanks to the drunkard 🥴 Another thing I noticed is that when an enemy inflicts 2 or more fear, all the symbols that are passed by also activate, not only the one the cube ends up on. That would have activated a hero symbol at some point 😉 Looking forward to the next episode 🤩
You can kill Zogar with the Martyr. According to boardgamegeek forums, the creator said any enemy. So you probably could have gotten out of there with everything intact! Great game!
Okay, rules talk: ~30:00 c;mon Mr. Phour, there isn't a deck builder worth its salt that doesn't cycle your discard into your draw when a card is called for, whether for good or ill. Glad your conscience won you over to the right side of that issue. : ) ~37:30 Unless there's something in the rules distinguishing Zogar in any way (e.g. "bosses cannot be affected by card text", I cannot see any reason the Martyr wouldn't work. But I guess he ended up delivering the fatal kick to Zogar even if he didn't martyr himself as advertised! And all due respect to your Gates prowess, but I definitely caught a whiff of promo inflation in that playthrough. I've seen the same thing happen in other games, particularly from a print-on-demand operation like The Gamecrafter, where designers are almost encouraged to keep up a steady stream of new content. I've played a lot of Iron Helm, and it's shot through with that kind of balance-killing expansion and promo nonsense. It's a real disservice to some otherwise fine games and I'm disappointed to see it here. I am, however, heartily tickled by your enthusiasm for it, so please don't take my comments as a criticism or judgment! (And, oof, RE: that little shoutout at the end. "Heck of an election year", indeed. Hope you and yours are well, particularly your mother given I know you mentioned she'd had surgery.)
So glad to see you doing playthroughs of gate and gates!!!!!

I'll definitely be picking Gate and Gates. The Gnome Pack being $20 is rough though, especially when you get a bunch of cards for unrelated games.
