Radiant Silvergun was announced for the Nintendo Switch!!! Buy this game now! I'll be buying it for the 3rd time just to have and enjoy it on one more console :)
it's currently on sale for about 5 bucks on the xbox live store. It comes with several graphics options, including a low res option I really like but also a more modern, cleaner graphics option
@@wigglesarcade8261 Other shooters I have in my library, I find much harder to complete the game. Like Dodonpachi or Battle Garegga (both Saturn) I have to use Action Reply codes to make it to the end. Literally those two titles and quite a few others in my shooter library are "bullet hell" class shooters.
@@marcc5768 those two games are incredible! I've beat Garegga many times, but Dodonpachi is a very, very hard nut to crack. It's true final stage is only available if you can 1cc the previous stages. I think there's one other way to unlock it too, but it's a level I've yet to see, at least while playing the game.
I finally took the plunge and bought the Saturn version last week. I’ve been quarter feeding it in arcade mode to try and learn patterns and chains. What an amazing game.
Was blown away when I 1st booted this up on the saturn. Treasure made some masterpieces I feel this has to be my favourite treasure game imo. Awesome review cheers. 👌
I love your channel and your enthusiasm for shmups. Im a crazy collector like you and just got the Saturn version in the mail. I’m sure it will hold its value but I have ZERO intention of selling this if it’s anywhere close to as good as you say. Can’t wait to finally play this after work.
I’ve been playing this with an 8 button arcade stick, a fully modded Mayflash F300, and it’s been amazing. It was free on Xbox Gold recently so everyone got a permanent copy of it if they wanted it. Total score.
Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga are very much the greatest shmup in the known universe much like Getter Robo Armageddon and Gunbuster are the greatest super robot anime in the known universe........at least to me.
i'm years late to this video, but i'm enjoying it... once i have enough money to buy the Steam version i really am going to play it! i'm here to recommend Hellsinker. it's not 1:1 to Radiant Silvergun but it's equally a unique experience. 4 characters, each has incredible variations in terms of their options much like RS. unique stage design, actual good story behind wacky prose, and THREE scoring systems that... i don't even know how to start describing it. very very unique shmup experience and so far my favorite shmup ever, with Ikaruga right behind. the order might change once i try RS out though, who knows! there's also Akashicverse, it's inspired by Hellsinker i believe. you control a ship with 10 different abilities called "methods" that you can use by performing fighting-game like input sequences. really fun and really wacky, it feels like the game is throwing everything to kill you but you're also overpowered and it's a battle between an immovable object vs an unstoppable force.
@Wiggles Dude, I LOVE this game sooooooo much. I got the game one year ago at a really hard time. I was lucky and got unexpected money, I wanted it so much, so I bought it (not the best decision when your situation sucks xD) and didnt regret it a bit. It helped me so much got through so much bullshit and sadness, even when I was down and everything sucked I played it and I felt better and got a bit of motivation back, even when I got crushed in the game xD. When you started to get a feel for it, its the best game ever. You feel so skilled when you hit a long chain for the first time and got stronger because of more points and you knew you deserved it because of your hard work. Thats one of the best things in the game, when you playing good you just dont get points, you get stronger so you feel the impact and you have the motivation to get better because it feels so good to destroy bosses in no time where you had struggle with it. In RPGs you have the same thing, but can grind and you dont have that exact felling like Radiant Silvergun. I have personal bound with this game and I will never sell it, its that one piece that shows me that no matter how much your situations sucks, it will get better when you work on it. But a another thing: PLEASE dont buy any other japanese saturn games or else on ebay. Like 99% of the time its much more expensive then in japan. But you cant buy stuff in japan directly, or? YES, you can, with the help of a proxy service. You can buy stuff in japan, its get sended to their warehouse, you can store it up to 45 days for free and when everything arrives, you can ship it to you in one package. You can bid on auctions too, which is a blast. My best so far is 100 PS1 Games for 0,33€ a piece. It feels so good to get so much games for so cheap prices, mostly when you bid on lots you can estimate 100 Yen to 200 Yen per game for most retro stuff like PS1, Famicom, Super Famicom, N64 etc. The only negative is that you need to find the item of desire in japanese, but most of the time you find it on the wiki page. There a bunch of proxy services, im using From Japan, im pretty happy with it ^^. Here is an link for radiant silvergun, you can find another radiant silvergun stuff to, so thats pretty cool too :D. Thanks for sharing your story. Yeah video games have certainly helped me through some pretty dark times as well, and honestly I can think of few better games to help with that than Radiant Silvergun. The game certainly does make you feel like a badass with its leveling system, and the rest of the game is so captivating that it's hard not to be in a good mood by the time you reach the end. It's just so damn satisfying!
This game sounds like Hellsinker, now I know why. Hellsinker got boss fights that worth dismantling, too unique weapons and bomb that works on meter. Heck, Kagura 4 Xanthez(playable ship on Hellsinker) got this window wiper sword as a sub weapon, I think that is somewhat inspired by RSG. Anyways. I do hope this game gets a Steam port someday.
Definitely, it was worth it to get it on the 360 and playing Ikaruga as well, but after expending almost 400 bucks on the original as well I can tell with 100% this definitely brings me a good time and live up to his name by two things in my opinion. 1. The soundtrack of this game is literally Final Fantasy Tactics one of my favorite RPG games of all time. 2. The gameplay himself is just perfect and engaging that literally is just worth to give it a play a couple of hours of gameplay.
Surprised you didn't mention Mischief Makers on the N64, originally "Yuke Yuke Troublemakers", that was my first introduction to Treasure and like many others holds a nostalgic soft spot in my heart from that generation. Otherwise, excellent review. EDIT: forgot to mention, Limited Run Games has just released preorders for physical editions of Radiant Silvergun on the Switch if anybody's interested, there's Steelbook and Collector's Edition versions available with some cool goodies n' merch.
There really is no reason to not get an Xbox 360 if you like shmups. And if you want your pixelated graphics for radiant silvergun, there is a mode for it! Plus all the homebrew you can stick in your 360, you could practically have all the shmups you would want
The 360 was definitely the system to have as a SHMUP fan during the 7th gen! The Wii and the PS3 had some decent ones, but neither can compare to the 360. Loving the region free releases too.
Hellsinker might be something if you want a shooter that is a bit outside the norm. If you do decide to check it out, a slight warning. The learning curve is steeeeeep.
Silvergun is a tremendous technical achievement, but the difficulty scale is so far off the charts, I have to find a new word for “impossible.” The square root of minus-one is impossible. Silvergun is on a whole other plane. Love the game, but I cannot believe anyone could last more than 30 seconds without a game over. Thank God for unlimited continues!
I'm actually not a huge Gradius fan which might surprise some people. V is by a mile my favorite, which heavily has to do with a Treasures contributions. But it's still Gradius at heart so I'm fairly meh on it. I'm not saying they're bad games, just not my cup of tea for the most part.

need this on playstation, switch and on pc asap! i wonder why they stopped porting it after x360...
Great essay I was thinking about buying the XBLA version for my One but got a copy for my saturn instead XP wonder if I missed anything beyond the resolution but I dont really mind since the game look great on an RGB upscaler anyway btw whats the first background song name ?
You know a game is gold when the reviewer has trouble to fit everything great about it into a quarter hour long video. Too busy to even mention the two player mode, right? :D
It's a good game but both this and Ikaruga are a tad over-hyped. They're good on their own though and very unique. The scoring systems kinda ruin it for me though.
Radiant Silvergun was announced for the Nintendo Switch!!! Buy this game now! I'll be buying it for the 3rd time just to have and enjoy it on one more console :)
Do you know if it is the original arcade version, the saturn version or the hd remastered version?
@@gochadc Seems like it's a port of the 360 version.
Radiant Silvergun is by far the best shmup ever made. Would kill for a graphically updated remake
it's currently on sale for about 5 bucks on the xbox live store. It comes with several graphics options, including a low res option I really like but also a more modern, cleaner graphics option
Thats such a taste thing, its a slow puzzler.
I have the Saturn release and it's my favorite shooter across all my consoles I own.
Me too! I've played a few shooters that have come close, but Radiant Silvergun is still king of the hill.

Great review, your passion shows. It gave a really good perspective on how to approach the game as it seemed a bit daunting. Thanks!
There really is something special about this game.
You know what it is? Its Treasure and their willingness to push dying consoles to their limits. Almost seemed like a kink to them
This is indeed the best shmup I have ever played. Thanks for a great video now I feel like busting out my 360 to play this again.
Who's here after the Nintendo Direct today?
🙌
Update: Just bought and played RSG on my switch, and it Kicked my ass but it wasn't bad at all in fact I loved the challenge.
Excellent review, and I agree, I like this game more than Ikaruga
Ahhh, a man of exquisite tastes I see!
And thank you, I appreciate that :)
I love this game so much! Excellent review, man!
Hey, thank you so much!
Fingers crossed guys that Sega will do a Saturn mini and include this on their system :)

Radiant Silvergun was announced for Steam 1 month ago, although it will take a while because there is still no estimated release date for the PC port.
