Not only was she a great entertainer, but she was a genuinely a nice person. The world doesn't seem quite so bright without her in it.
Also one of the most beautiful woman ever.
One of the most beautiful and talented people.
I so agree! She came to my city to play live and it was so cold. My buddy waited after sound check outside to get her autograph and she came out to her tour bus and saw my buddy so cold. She invited him on her tour bus and to talk and sign stuff and made sure he was warm! She was the sweetest! RIP!
Who wasn’t in love with Olivia Newton John? This song was in the movie Xanadu. She has a duet with Sir Cliff Richard’s called “Suddenly” you should react too. 👍😎
I was "in love" with her around the time the song Xanadu came out. I was 8 & she was 32. I remember having some really strong "adult" feelings for her back then. It's amazing that a little kid could feel so strong about a woman.
Absolutely!
My first celebrity crush....along with Karen Carpenter!
My first major crush as a pre teen. Deeply in love with her in the 70's as a young yoot...
you, me and millions of other kids then.
Yes p, first celebrity crush at 13
56 yo black American veteran. My 1st crush as a teen. Miss her!
Olivia had so many great songs such as "I Honestly Love You", "If Not for You", "Let Me Be There", "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)", "Have You Never Been Mellow", "Xanadu", "Hopelessly Devoted To You" etc. She starred with John Travolta in the movie "Grease" in 1978 & they had some great songs together "You're the One That I Want" & "Summer Nights". Sadly we lost Olivia in 2022. She was only 73 & bravely fought cancer for nearly 3 decades.
Olivia Newton-John was the opposite of Sandy and was much more into romantic ballads that certainly matched good looks. it seemed that she had a tendency to be somewhat passive and was produced in certain ways that emphasized her innocent beauty that was a big seller from the 80s. Never forget that she was before the year 2000 and the Internet. Everything was radio oriented and certain stations played certain kinds of music and other stations played other kinds. MTV was going on strong and she photographed quite well. She was pure Pop music. Four Grammys was not too bad. Surprised you didn’t recognize that the headband was all about the exercise craze at the time not the hippie past.
😎
@@williamlucas4656ONJ was never passive about her career. She always stated and her collaborators also stated that she was the driver of her career. There are many examples including the lawsuit she initiated with MCA records in 1975 to her own decision to record “Physical” and to her own decision to back out of the spotlight to raise her child in 1985 to her decision to leave MCA records in 1989 so she could record the album she wanted.
Her early music from the 70's is so good.
her best era was before Physical. Totally Hot was a great album, as was Let Me Be There. She did a fantastic cover of the Bee Gees 'Come On Over' that hit big in about 1976
Yes, part of the soundtrack to Xanadu. She had a hit called Get Physical, with the leotard, leg warmers, headband going on.
OH YESSSSSS Get Physical, MMMMM that was a great video, and I was single. But seriously she had a beautiful voice and I have heard all of her songs. She is missed.
The title is just "Physical".
@@Wiccat1yeah I've never heard of get physical
@@Wiccat1 OK still very HOT
@Wiccat1 sorry, blame my 75 year old brain, lol.
Had a crush on her sinds '78. Still think she is the most beautiful woman ever. RIP.
Our Olivia.Looks and (non-autotuned) voice of an angel.
Huge #1 hit in 1980! This was probably her 2nd biggest hit, since "Physical"was the biggest hit of the entire 80's decade. She had so many great songs. My recommendations are "A Little More Love" and "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)."
yeah can't get over the fact that a cheesy song like Physical was the biggest-selling single in the US in the 80's according to Billboard.
This was one of her popular songs from the movie "Xanadu" [Zan-a-doo]. In the movie she sang this while rollerskating. The movie itself didn't do well but her music (along with Electric Light Orchestra) did well. The movie has since become a cult classic and even spawned a Broadway musical.
Given that you're into fitness, if you want to explore more of ONJ's music you should check out "Physical" which was one of her best-selling (and controversial) hits.
Soundtrack on this musical made it watchable... pure nostalgia
She started in 1971 or so, way before Grease released....need to check out her early stuff for sure. Check out "I Honestly Love You" 1974. She did so much, albums, movies, T.V. it's insane.
As a teenager, I was in love with her in the early to mid-70's, when she was doing the country music. She was a beautiful creature, inside and out, and there will never be another quite like her.
"Please Mr. Please" was practically unending on the hometown jukebox.
Another song I loved - she had so many fantastic ones prior to Physical
Ironic... since it was a song about a jukebox.
Physical was a hit in the early 1980s.
Number one song of the decade of the 1980’s.
It was the biggest hit of 1981 or 1982 (forgot the year it was released) and one of the biggest of the decade, it was No. #1 for 10 weeks
@utcnc7mm The song hit #1 on the BILLBOARD Hot 100 for the week ending 11/21/1981. It spent 10 consecutive weeks at #1, the only song to accomplish that feat in the 1980's.
Magic spent 4 consecutive weeks at #1 in August of 1980. The movie was Xanadu, pronounced as if the X was a Z. She also had 2 songs go to #1 from the soundtrack to the movie Grease.
@@utcnc7mm Physical was #1 in late 81 into 82. It was the #1 song of the 80's in the USA.
@@BillGraper I was thinking it was, I know it was a monster hit
This song was Olivia Newton-John's first #1 hit of the 1980s. The song spent a total of 4 weeks at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the late summer of 1980. I was crazy about Olivia's new looks at the time. RIP Olivia
Those eyes were always her best asset. Right from when she started out, as a teenager, in Melbourne Australia. It was always the eyes. 😊❤
Her eyes just look right into your soul.
You really need to listen to Xanadu, music by E.L.O. sung by Olivia.
I love that movie. I got my daughter hooked on it
@@andreadeamon6419it got hammered by the critics but it was a fun movie also featuring Gene Kelly ...but the music by ELO was top tier ❤
Amazing Olivia, RIP.
A Little More Love is also a great song by O. N-J! Beautiful woman, beautiful soul, gone too soon...
Love the song Xanadu , takes me back 😌
Such a sensual singer. She surely chose the right path professionally.
Beautiful voice. Every guys crush in the 70's and forever after.
A Little More Love
Simply beautiful lady, those eyes can melt you. Fantastic voice rip Olivia
She was a goddess. We had our famous crushes back then, but she was on another level...
John Lennon and Michael Jackson both said Magic was one of their favorite songs
Born in England and raised in Australia, Olivia was known as America’s sweetheart.
She always called herself an aussie. Liv got australian nationalised in 1986? ❤
This is a Great Song, This is a great song from her. and she has many more too.
Oh hell yeah. I freaking love this song. Childhood favorite growing up in the early 80's.
They played this so much on the radio at the dawn of the 80's when I was a kid. I liked the unique sound and chord progressions on the song and the relaxed easy vocals ONJ sang with.
Another great Aussie girl singer. She died of breast cancer a few years ago and had been battling it for many years. Very much loved in her home country of Australia. Was so generous with her time and women cancer charities.
No, she was British. She was born in Cambridge, England, but grew up in Australia.
@@angharaddenby3389 Oh dear, here we go again, another pommie trying to pinch our stars! She is recognised alll around the world as Australian whether you like it or not pommie boy!
Comments like these always make me laugh 'she is British she was born in Cambridge England'. Sir Cliff Richard was born in India, Emma Watson was born in Paris, Spike Milligan's was born in India, just to name a few, All proudly British. They may have been born somewhere else but they are a product of the country that adopted and nurtured them when they or their parents chose to emigrate and call another country their home.
@@Rastis7 Someone else with common sense - Thank you.
True but she represented Britain in the Eurovision song contest.
Xanadu is a amazing soundtrack, with a little more love is a great song by Olivia
Olivia Newton John ... Magic !!! From the movie Xanadu . We went and saw the movie when it came out. Wasn't much of a hit but the songs and the dancing in it were fantastic! It was reworked for Broadway and was a hit there. Also the song Xanadu is great but I would point you to the movie clips. There is also a song that she did in the movie with the group ... The Tubes...were it starts with Big Band then Rock and goes back and forth then merges. .. Dancin (1980) - Olivia Newton John, The Tubes. When they filmed Xanadu, They went all out and got every available act it the area. Including circus acts. jugglers, high-wire, dancers on roller skates
Dancing- scene in the empty club made me like XANADU ... love the nostalgia
I remember as a pre-teen when this song first came out, and without even seeing the video or knowing what she looked like, I fell in love with the woman singing this song. Crushing so hard. And then I remember seeing some of her videos confirming that she did in fact look like and acted like the angel that I had imagined she must be. Not only was she an incredibly talented singer and actor but she was a great person and role model to boot. And man I swear even to her last days she was incredibly beautiful. I don't know if I've ever crushed for anyone like her ever.
Lovely Olivia! She was always so giving to her fans of her great talent! Such a genuinely nice lady as well!
She was my idol growing up. She's has so many hits, If not for you, Sam, she has had duets with John Denver, Andy Gibb and Cliff Richard.
She has been my favorite female vocalist since I first heard her back in the 1970s pre Grease. Her voice is very soothing. You should check out "I Honestly Love You" (#1 hit 1974), and "Have you never been mellow".
She had a brainy family too. Olivia was the granddaughter of Nobel Prize winning physicist and Einstein collaborator, Max Born. Her father was a professor too. She was such a beauty, class act and amazing talent. I was devastated by her passing. I’ve loved her since her early career.
Olivia is one of the best selling recording artists of all time with 100 million album sales. She also was the biggest selling female recording artist of the 1970's. And I agree with what Barry Gibb (of the Bee Gees) always said, ONJ was the best female vocalist of her era. And that is saying a lot from a man who wrote and produced an entire album for Barbra Streisand. ONJ just had it all vocally: control, range, agility, perfect pitch, and had just about every vocal technique available to her. Plus she could harmonize with anyone. That's why she could cross genres so easily and make it her own. So many different shades to her voice. All that talent! I miss her so much! May she be singing with the other angels now.
From the movie "Xanadu". I had this 45 rpm record along with the title track, long before VHS was common in homes. She had a really great voice, among the best of the time.
Cliff Richard and the Shadows were involved in her early career: "Let Me Be There" and "If You Love Me Let Me Know" were both written by Shadows bass guitarist John Rostill, and John Farrar, a later member of the Shadows and the band Marvin, Welch, and Farrar, wrote, produced, and arranged many of Olivia's songs.
U must listen to "Fly Away" from her and John Denver, her voice is that of an angel
She wasn't even credited on that record, she did it as a favor to her good friend John. But yes, she sounds like an absolute angel on that song.
Olivia's 1975 hit "Have you ever been Mellow" is a good one to check out also!
A Little More Love is another favorite from this era. I also love all of her early hits, like If Not for You, If You Love Me, Let Me Be There, I Honestly Love You, Please Mr. Please, Have You Never Been Mellow, etc.
a-lot of people especially the new generation only know her from grease but she has a huge discography of hits ! i consider her in the same class as karen carpenter pure, clean, clear but higher range she had a 5 octave range mariah carey was influence by john as a youngster you need to react to the song called SAM live a coincidence she displays her vocal range !
The mosr popular '70s/early '80s female soloist in the pop ground.
Olivia has a huge catalog of great music to dive into. Physical, I Honestly Love You, Please Mr Please, and so many others...
Love love LOVE her! Her death really hit me hard. This is my favorite track of hers!
"Grease" is such a great movie! My dad took me to see it at the theater when it first came out. I was 10.
Ok, talking about the 80's headband fashion trend, it's important to note that ONJ was not following a trend with that 80's look. She created it. It was a look that is very much associated with 80's fashion and it was because of her. As is her look in the video Physical, with the workout wardrobe, that lasts, in many respects, to this day. Like the look or not she was a heavy influence on 80's fashion and that's important to pop culture and fashion history.
Well said
"Xanadu", "Twist of Fate", "Deeper Than The Night", "Suddenly" with Cliff Richards are some of my favorites.
"Have you never been mellow " good song by Olivia Newton-John. This song is before she did grease
Sam nails it again. This was the beginning of the workout era.
This was from 1980 IIRC but she had been performing since 1974 or 1975. First songs I remember were Please Mister Please, Have You Never Been Mellow and I Honestly Love You.
She is another one of those female vocalist that I love from the 70's. She was always the consummate performer. Broke my heart when she passed away.
You should check out her early music.
Phil and Sam, Olivia's love ballads are the best! Please react to my all time favorite Olivia hit, "Sam". It's a beautiful song and actually Olivia once said on stage that it was one of her own favorites. She sings it so sweet, clear and beautiful. There are a couple of live performance videos she did in 1976 and 1977 that are perfect!
"Magic" is a great pick for Olivia. Probably my favorite of hers. The word "Xanadu" (Zanadoo) is a made up word (orig. Shangdu) but it comes from a famous poem called "Kubla Khan" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, first published in 1816. It was around the dawn of modern fantasy / scifi / adventure type writings. "In Xanadu did Kubla Khan / A stately pleasure-dome decree ..."
Not sure if you've covered it yet, but Olivia and John Denver had a duet, "Fly Away," that was popular.
She sounds so good and she was so beautiful.
Every time I see you guys, I am reminded to go and do a few arm curls. 💪 😊
Hi Guys.. You can try,,, Have you ever been Mellow by her
Now ya know. Now ya know... Amazing times... Early 80s. Were Magic... Big changing times....
My FAVORITE song by Olivia. I was going thru flight school when this came out, and I can remember lying on a Pensacola beach grooving to this song.
This was a favorite in my teen years. My favorite Olivia song. (Another to do would be her duet with Cliff Richard "Suddenly"). The bass line in this song is spectacular too
Didn't have the video for this when it first came out on the radio, but man, it's good even just hearing it again after many years. Well-orchestrated piece.
Deeper than the night.
I heard her singing it in my head before It started RIP Olivia
Lots of people these days think of ONJ only from the start of her Pop Music segment of her career, BUT--and it is a BIG but--her style changed over the course of her career. She began, believe it or not, as a Country Music star. Her break out hit was 'Let Me Be There' and that song was eclipsed by her follow up 'If You Love Me (Let Me Know)' which topped the Country Music charts and went to number 5 on Billboard, thus opening the door to her Pop Career. The follow up (from the same album) I Honestly Love You saw her reach number one on both country and pop charts. Interestingly, she NEVER lost her country audience even when she focused more on the pop page--Have You Never Been Mellow, Come On Over (written by the Bee Gees) and so many more.
Such a beautiful woman beautiful voice she was born in England but moved to Australia when she was very young God bless her
By the time her movies came along I was too busy working to see any of them or pay any attention to the music but years before when she sang I Honestly Love You I thought she was singing that to me. 😀
Olivia Newton John had a lot of great songs but is most known because of the movie Grease. Olivia was a real life sweetheart and will be missed.
She won 4 Grammys as well I had all her albums before and after Grease she was my favorite
Xanadu was the movie. All i see in my mind is big hair , leg warmers , headbands and silk jackets . I miss the 80's . Great reaction thanks for the memories :)
How can you concentrate on the melody? I can only hear & see Olivia 😍
The voice of an angel with a beautiful soul to match! I love "A Little More Love" from 1978. "Xanadu" (pronounced with a z) was a great song written and performed with ELO. "Please Mr. Please" is a favorite for some "sad country." "Let Me Be There" was one of her first hits for some fun country sound. But if you just want to be astounded by some amazing vocals, check out her live versions of "Sam."
Olivia had a couple of great TV performances of this song where she had a different look. She had more dancing with her singing, and I think her voice stood out more. I think one show was the Midnight Special. Right before she died, she recorded a duet with Dolly Parton of her song Jolene. It was amazing .
I highly recommend her performance of "Sam" live from her 1982 concert. Please..
Whole gig was FAB!
In ’82 when I was in AF basic training there was an Olivia Newton-John special on TV. She did “Lets get Physical” rolling around on a big furry rug… other than her singing you could have heard a pin drop in a room with 40+ guys mesmerized! WOW!!!
ONJ's "Physical", along with Hall & Oates "I Can't Go for That" were the two songs in 1982 that held Foreigner's hit ballad "Waiting For A Girl Like You" at it's peak of #2. Between the two, they ultimately prevented Lou Gramm & Co. from having two #1 ballads as opposed to just their '84 chart topper "I Want To Know What Love Is" in the 'ballad' genre. '84 - '85 was also my senior year of high school; there were a few early '80s hits that were adapted to marching band play by the '84 football season. Playing the quadratoms that year, Physical was played at every game during the half time show along with J. Geils Band's "Centerfold" & Toto's "Africa" - basketball pep band season brought Survivor's "Eye Of The Tiger" & Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money" & "Hot Stuff" to our playlist. Needless to say, we had a band director that liked to rock out, which suited us just fine - he had a ton of great music from which to choose!
The memories!
Olivia Newton John.. Magic & The Electric Light Orchestra....For context. The movie stars Olivia as a Muse. One of the daughters of Zeus. She has been in the mind of a young man before she reveals herself to him. He is looking at a run down venue that he is working to turn into a roller disco which was a fad at the time. Gene Kelly is also in it. His last movie and he had to be talked into it. He plays an older Man that Olivia helped in the past and she puts them together as he will be the money man.
such a general vocal talent. There are so many great singers in this era you never heard of like Patrice Russian, Pat Benatar etc. Its becuase of these people its hard to take modern singer serious as these woman and many like Olivia were so effortlessly talented.
You mean Patrice RUSHEN? Your mis-spelling made me smile! 🙂
This was one of my favorites of her songs
In the film Xanadu, Olivia Newton John plays Terpsichore (one of the Muses) and the goddess of dance.
The movies Grease and Xanadu were only 2 years apart. ONJ was almost 30 when she filmed Grease. This song was part of the soundtrack for Xanadu. I think the shorter haircut ages her a bit. She still had longer hair in Xanadu, but cut it short for the Physical music videos.
Love your reactions! Check out where it all started for Olivia Newton-John: country music! 😄 "Let Me Be There" and "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)" charted as country-western ditties, y'all.
EDIT: In fact, she won the 1973 Grammy for Best Female Country Vocalist.
Great reaction !! Please react to - Let's get Physical by Olivia Newton John !! She was amazing !! RIP !!
Xanadu is a fun movie to watch. Great music and fabulous roller skating.
In my opinion her best song ever! Love it and love her. RIP ONJ ❤
Olivia gorgeous inside and outside
Her 1981 album Physical was a big hit, too. It has the song "Make A Move On Me" -- always an appealing song to me (her biggest hit on that was "Physical").
Superb voice and person. Other favs: Have you never been mellow; If you love me let me know; Hopelessly devoted to you, You're the one that I want (from the movie Grease), and many others. She had like 20 top 40 hits. Her range is at the very extreme upper limits Soprano down to high tenor. RIP ONJ.
She was such a babe. Her song Lets Get Physical woke something up in me as a young boy in the 80s. She was beautiful, elegant, and educated. Gone too soon. ❤
Beautiful voice and beautiful person.
Xanadu was a movie (another musical) that included songs from ELO (Electric Light Orchestra)...another great band you should look into. The song Xanadu was a duet from both Olivia & ELO
Oh c'mon guys!!! I love her. She was an early crush for many young men. She is beautiful and that should not be shamed for us. Great reaction from a seventies point of view. Love it!!!
Her first number one hit was "I Honestly Love You' which she released in 1974. The most popular was 'Physical'
Magic and Twist of Fate (from Two of a Kind) are my top two favourites from Olivia.
She was a sweetheart
Yes I'm a male music lover, and love this song!
Two great songs from the movie Xanadu are this song, and I'm Alive . . .
DANCIN was the track I loved in this movie
Olivia set the stage for the 80's workout vibe with this look. This is her second biggest hit, with 4 weeks at number 1. Her biggest hit came in 1981 with the song Physical, 10 weeks at number 1. My favorite song of hers is Twist of Fate from 1983. She was the biggest thing from the early 70s through the mid 80s selling more than 100 million albums world wide. Grease was just one blip on her career map. :)
ONJ was on another level. This song in particular takes you to a trippy head space with the moody vibe.
You should check out her live performance of "Have You Never Been Mellow" you'll be impressed with her vocals.
She started out Country and then went more Pop later on in her career.
Australian producer, singer, guitarist, and songwriter John Farrar wrote this song, and almost all of Olivia's many hits, as well as producing her albums. He was a former member of many bands including The Shadows, which also featured singer Cliff Richard. Farrar also wrote "You're The One That I Want" and "Hopelessly Devoted To You" from the soundtrack to the movie Grease. 🙂
