  • This video will show in detail how to repair a MacBook Pro with Water Damage. This isn't a guaranteed fix but I've had a very good success rate with this method in the past. I'd say I've had good results repairing 7/10 Apple MacBook Pro Laptop computers with Water Damage in the past. Be patient and remember to let the computer sit for a few days after cleaning before attempting to power it back on. With a little patience and time you might just be successful in this water damage repair fix.
    Laptop shown in this video is a MacBook Pro (15-inch 2019) with i7 CPU and 16GB of RAM.
    This video was filmed on an iPhone XR in 2160p 4k at 60fps
    I have a MacBook Pro with water damage that won't boot, so I'm going to open it up and try to fix it. As you can see, the spill has gone inside the tray. I'm going to clean it up and see if it can be salvaged.
    First, I'll vacuum the inside with micro attachments to remove any dust. Then, I'll tackle the spill. Upon closer examination, I can see that the liquid has bubbled up in one spot, probably due to the heat. To clean it up, I'll use rubbing alcohol.
    Here's a quick pro tip: when cleaning the fan, use a plastic spudger or pry tool to hold it in place. This will prevent the delicate motor inside the fan from spinning around in different directions.
    I'm going to use 50% rubbing alcohol to clean different parts of the motherboard. Once it's clean, I'll let the computer dry overnight and see if it has an effect.
    To clean off the spill, I've wet a paper towel just enough so that it's not dripping but wet enough to do a good cleaning. I'll apply a little pressure and try to get as much of it off as possible. As you can see, it's working because it's coming off onto the paper towel nicely.

      Likely a software glitch from when the computer fried after the spill. That's my best guess. I remember this project well. This was a very tough and lengthy fix from start to finish. 🙏

    Great video. I have water damage, however everything is working fine aside from the screen. It’s has a dark strip going down the center. I was told since there is water damage, eventually the components will corrode and it will stop working. What are your thoughts?

    • @TechInsomnia
      @TechInsomnia  10 місяців тому +1

      The strip could likely be permanent GPU related damage. Working lifespan after a spill will depend on the extent of the spill and if it was opened and cleaned or not after the spill. Popping open the cover and cleaning the inside out a bit of dusty won’t hurt in any case my friend. 🙏

    • @TechInsomnia
      @TechInsomnia  10 місяців тому

      Thank you for your comment my friend. I would take the battery out if you can. The longer you leave it out to dry after cleaning like this especially on both sides the better. Take your time and clean every spot well. 🙏 I usually give it two days then reassemble and rethermal then a few more days before my first power in attempt. Letting the battery charge first for a bit before first power on can’t be a bad thing. Especially if the charging light comes on. 😃💯💪✨

    Hey @TechInsomnia, I’ve had a similar issue with my MacBook and a water spill, it’s had IPA spray and I managed to boot it but the fans were running extremely loudly and then when trying to recover my data it shut itself down and won’t boot again. Do you think it’s worth leaving it a few days to see if it dries out to boot again? Thanks 🙌

    • @TechInsomnia
      @TechInsomnia  2 місяці тому

      I would for sure my friend. If you can put a fan over it so that the air is pointed directly at the board but passing over the board, this can help to pull moisture off and out of the internals of the motherboard. Hope this helps and please do let me know how it goes my friend. 🙏

      @@TechInsomnia thanks for the reply! Unfortunately it just won’t boot, no sign of life ☹️ Not sure whether there’s anything else I can try or if I should accept its fate? I’m stuck between sinking more money into trying to repair it or putting it towards a new one that I can’t really afford! I guess the parts can’t be disassembled?

    i just had water damage (I placed my laptop on a wet surface). the water got in and my computer froze. I got all the water out right away (some water but not a lot) and dried everything with a hair blower on warm. After a few mins of that it turned on.
    Should I be worried and not use the computer for a few days?

    • @TechInsomnia
      @TechInsomnia  Місяць тому

      I would leave it for as long as possible without turning it back on just to be safe if you can my friend. Can you open it and see inside? If so I would leave it open for a day or two and if you have a strong fan have the fan blowing over the opened computer. This will allow the mosture to potentially be pulled out of the computer and into the flow of air passing over it slowly over time. Hope this helps and let me know how it goes. 🙏🤞

    • @TechInsomnia
      @TechInsomnia  Рік тому

      The longer the better to be honest my friend and if you can have a fam near it pointed so its blowing air passing over it (not at it) the air flow/circulation will pull out moisture as well. A science guy thought me that one and it actually works! 💯🙏🙌

    Will it make a difference if the spill happened 2 years ago and the macbook was just sitting around?

    • @TechInsomnia
      @TechInsomnia  Місяць тому +1

      I believe so only because it’s had time to fully dry out. I’ve had the same thing happen with water damaged PC’s and Mac’s over the years. No life in them after the spill and after 6-24 months of sitting doing nothing I go to try right before throwing them out and they boot. 💯 Sometimes these computers have a kind of their own. 😅

    • @TechInsomnia
      @TechInsomnia  11 місяців тому

      These computers are very tricky to get the data off of by means of external enclosure or any method that involves accessing the data on the dive outside the computer itself. Might have to just clean as much of the coffee off the inside and let it sit for a week or two and then try to boot. You'd be surprised how many times that approach actually works my friend. 🙏
