    I like how you said, we may never pass this way again so I'm going to take advantage of all the trail has to offer (or something like that). That is a good thing to remember whenever you are on the trail or in life in general.

    The brown water snake is very heavy-bodied, and its neck is distinctly narrower than its head. Dorsally, it is brown or rusty brown with a row of about 25 black or dark brown, square blotches down its back. Smaller similar blotches alternate on the sides. The brown water snake (Nerodia taxispilota) is a large species of nonvenomous natricine snake endemic to the southeastern United States....Maybe? When I was maybe four or five I found one and bring it proudly home one day, my mother was just as unimpressed with it as the stink snake I got all the way into the kitchen before it lived up to its name. Momma said leave'em outside, not in my house, pointing to the door. You did the right thing leaving it outside.Thanks for jogging my memories.

    Rev, Great video! "One of the highest of human duties is the duty of encouragement… It is easy to laugh at men’s ideals; it is easy to pour cold water on their enthusiasm; it is easy to discourage others. The world is full of discouragers. We have a Christian duty to encourage one another. Many a time a word of praise or thanks or appreciation or cheer has kept a man on his feet. Blessed is the man who speaks such a word." Rev, your a man who speaks such a word.

    Hello Rev. I just want to let you know how informative and inspiring your vlogs are to me and so many others! And I'm sure someone has already chimed in, but that snake was a copperhead, and he could have really ruined your day. Hi Rev, I throughly enjoy your trail adventures.There are all sorts of people out on the trails including men of the cloth. In the movie The Way, Martin Sheen's character is completing the hike for his recently deceased son. Sheen meets Frank the Catholic priest from New York, also hiking The Camino de Santiago. Frank is wearing a yarmulke to cover a recent brain surgery site on the back of his head. Frank has cancer that will probably return, or so he has been told. However, presumably, like others on this pilgrimage, he'd like a miracle cure. I'd love to hear comments on the reasons hikers are taking or taken any hike. Happy Trails to all ! ;-)

      Hey Justin. I’m not sure where you live but if you’re not used to heat and humidity in the south in July, you’re gonna be in BIG trouble. Bring LOTS of water, do a lot of night hiking and take siesta’s during the middle part of the day. Good luck. 🥵

      @@TheHikingRev Thank you so much for the advice. I live in Alabama around Gadsden. I love hiking but this will be my first Thru-Hike. The only thing I'm concerned about is being an insulin dependent diabetic and doing this solo.

    How many changes of clothes do you bring?

    • @TheHikingRev
      @TheHikingRev  Рік тому

      None. When I go into a trail town, I wear my rain jacket and pants while I’m washing and drying my hiking clothes. 😁

      No. I think that was further down the trail.😁👍❤️

    Here in the South you might actually end up in jail for putting sugar and/or milk in your grits in public...LOL! Butter, salt and pepper, shrimp are definitely acceptable in the low country, and in some places cheese...but the Rev. is right about the other stuff. It's a matter of Southern etiquette and is simply just not done. 😆

      Hey Terry. I tried to educate them on southern etiquette out in California but I think it’s going to take a little bit more time.😂😂😂

    Sugar in my grits? Poor folks save sugar for the sweet tea.

    Never put salt in your grits...they are made for sugar and butter!!! Obviously you've lived in the west coast too long. Ain't it great we all have different tastes.

    I'm worried about your diet choices on the trail. For a heart guy you might consider a whole food, plant based diet instead of the mealtime choices you describe in your video : ( Your hiking exploits are always ineteresting and fun to watch.

    That was a baby "ish" timber rattler. Those are to be avoided for sure Rev!

      My son was bitten by a juvenile rattlesnake in Northern California. I am told that the amount of venom used by juvenile rattlers is usually more than their adult counterparts. My son fully recovered after a stay in the hospital.

      @sdc4405 Рік тому

      @DON ROBINSON I've always heard that as well. The young ones can't regulate the venom volume so I've been told.

      No rattles yet … but plenty of venom!😮
