This film is based off of a graphic novel from Topcow comics, that’s even wackier! There was also a video game tie in to the movie that acted as a prequel, where you play as both Wesley and his father!

The old man that worked with the father is Terrence Stamp who is best known for playing general zod in the Christopher Reeves superman movies and was also the evil butler in the haunted mansion movie with Eddie Murphy
I recommend you watch Godzilla Minus One, because I really want you to compare it to the other Godzilla films in the MonsterVerse (specifically Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire), and also because it is a reboot/prequel to the original 1954 Godzilla, essentially showing the original interpretation (in modern form) of what Godzilla is meant to be seen as, as well as taking inspiration from films such as Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975).

I never understood if that was his dad the whole time why he shoot his son in the arm
With the bullet, Wesley was able to trace where it came from and track down his Dad. Being short in the arm was a "safe" place to be shot.
