    Roach's diagnosis on why Chinese save more is wrong as saving is a Chinese culture thing, which has nothing to do with feeling safe or not, despite stashing away for the raining day is part of the rationale, Chinese also love to save up and pass wealth on to their children...if you look at Chinese in American, they definitely save a lot more than other kind of Americans, Chinese all over the world work hard and save as much as possible--they tend to delay gratification for a better future for their children.

      Taiwan returned to China at the end of WWII, at the cost of 30 millions Chinese lives, but many in US either lost such history dimension, or don't want to acknowledge such due to current politics. According to an article from Congress Library, "The Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945) was one of the most destructive conflicts of World War II... This war marked the culmination of growing Japanese aggression toward China since an earlier Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895). With half of China ruined, 20 million Chinese (military and non-military) dead... the eight-year conflict was one of the bloodiest in world history."

    Deeply entrenched Western stereotypes of China as an impenetrable political system seriously blocks the capacity for engaging with China as an emerging superpower. Chinese politics needs to be scrutinised and understood to the same degree as any other advanced form of governance. The collective West in general and the US administration in particular must work to better understand the domestic political processes of the People's Republic of China (PRC); it is after all a global superpower, a nation with one-quarter of the world’s population, this alone demands a more nuanced appreciation of how power, money and influence is garnered within the PRC.

      I agree it is hard to understand China's closed "political" system (in quotes because they don't allow open debate among people or parties for participation in decision-making), Other examples of their opaque system are the secrecy surrounding the origin of covid and the abrupt abandonment of "zero covid" . But I think it's wrong to blame "entrenched Western stereotypes",. China could have become more like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan or South Korea but instead the Party wanted to cling on as "communists" and the brittle system, more dangerous under Xi.

If wisdom taught us anything, we need to find a peaceful solution, together, we only have ONE earth, ONE planet, ONE life. Its hard to say China misunderstands the USA.
    USA has a long history of maintaining their dominance through unfair forceful actions against whichever country that seems to be on the path of overtaking them.
    Reason?
    The root of the problem lies in USA's monetary and economic system.
    The USA is a deficit country. The size of the "real economy" is small, the GDP calcs grossly over estimate the economy by including financial services, law services etc which do not necessarily generate real economic value for the society.
    For this system to work, the USD has to dominate, ie to be the main trade and reserve currency, allowing a deficit economy to be sustainable. This means USA has a major advantage in importing goods and services, acquire and own foreign assets, attract and funnel global talents to sustain their tech domination, despite "printing" massive amounts of USD. Other countries doing the same at this scale would have had unbearable inflation.
    For the USD to dominate, the military has to dominate. The tech has to dominate.
    For the military and tech to dominate, the media influence has to dominate: using their media influence to split societies elsewhere so they can divide and control politics and resources, and when that's not enough, they use the media influence to support their military involvements for the same objectives.
    China despite not having the objective to dominate and replace USA, will eventually effectively do that, simply because of their sheer size.
    Their political system gives them the ability to sustain the growth effectively despite being that massive, by
    1. More effectively govern and implement policies and long term growth plans without being affected by short term benefits for winning election votes etc.
    2. shielding themselves from foreign intervention / media influence which aims to divide and control them.
    So from the perspective of morality, fairness, and legitimacy, the USA shouldn't be trying to suppress China.
    But by the logic of how their current monetary and economic system has been designed to operate, the only way to sustain that is to continue the domination.
    They have seen what happened to the Great Britain when the sun set on them. They don't want the same to happen to the USA.
    Unfortunately, whilst they have the upper hand in monetary, military, tech, and media dominance, they do not have the upper hand in the political system. So time is not on their side.
    It is either they adjust, cooperate, and eventually lose some (if you want to use the term lose), or they eventually lose in a massive massive way having made china an enemy on the way there.

    American politicians have been practicing so called Monroe doctrine not just South America, but Europe vs Russian, and South Asia vs China -- all the way to China border, including Taiwan. Without abandoning and rethinking on such aggressive and assertive guideline, US-Chna relations will be difficult.Although Monroe doctrine was established centuries ago,.it was hold in dear hearts by Anglo-Saxonism elites, and supported by average American by default, although they didn't realize such fact and not even mention such thing in their day to day lives.

    • @zhuangdavid5037
      @zhuangdavid5037 8 місяців тому

      At the same time, US politicians and media like to paint China as an aggressive player, expanding on Tibet, Xinjiang, Taiwan and South China Sea etc, as if China is practicing its own version of "Monroe doctrine", thus gives US reasons to intervene, and provide check on balance. This is just absurd if one to start look at history dimension, one thing US politicians and refuse to do, average American public are not interested at all unless they are put into the situation like flying tigers and their descendants. If Communication can improve relations and reduce negativity and even hostility, US politicians and media have lots of things to work on to reverse their negative narratives on China.

    US and China each have different world views rooted in different civilizations and history. For China, It's belief in holism, balance (harmony) and dynamism from Daoism. For Americans, it's.belief in anti-dualism and activism. These believes shaped their actions and own history on the world stage, may cause frictions or conflicts, but also show the value and importance of learning from each other.

    • @nzi2036
      @nzi2036 8 місяців тому

      Your distortion and fabrication of the Chinese governance philosophy blatantly contradicts the facts, almost as if it’s scripted from the handbook of the Chinese Communist Party's Propaganda Department. You claim that China believes in 'holism, balance (harmony), and dynamism from Daoism'-has no one told you that the central idea of the Chinese Communist Party is class struggle? Has no one informed you that Mao, based on a quota of 1% of the entire population of China, branded people as rightists, sending them to prison, depriving them of their property, and subjecting them to over a decade of forced labor, with many choosing to end their lives due to starvation, physical torment, and humiliation? You mention that China believes in 'Daoism,' but has anyone told you that in China, this is considered a feudal tradition and a primitive religion, which was uprooted in the early days of Communist rule in the name of eradicating the 'Four Olds'? It only remains in Taiwan and Hong Kong. If the documents and slogans of the Chinese propaganda department were factual, China would have long been the most democratic and prosperous country in the world. The way you twist facts is nauseating.😅

      China's desire to control and gain full sovereignty over Taiwan is more of an ideological and historical endeavour, given the history of the Japanese occupation and the 20th-century Chinese civil war. In my opinion, the notion of the first and second island chain is an obsolete connection to WW2 strategy and doesn't consider the modern dynamics of warfare and influence.

    Roach's statement re Chinese military expenses are completely wrong and misleading: the figures are available, CN about 2000+ bn USD (1.4% of its GDP), the US close to 9000+ USD (3.2% of its GDP). In fact Chinese military expenditure includes a large portion devoted to internal stability keeping (anti-terrorist, anti-drug, etc.), while the US has other budgets not calculated in defense expenditure (i.e., there are US' internal source saying that the actual US defense expenditure totals at around 1.4 trillion USD annually--google it).
    what's different is that 1. CN makes less last longer and more to happen...CN's GDP PPP is actually larger than the US since 2016, 1 dollar has more purchasing power in China than in the US, anti corruption also helps, while your Pentagon hasn't passed an audit for 6 years on end; 2. The US keeps close to 800 military bases and hundred thousands ppl around the world, CN has one quasi-base in Djibouti with 200 ppl to counter pirates; The US has been in war for almost all of its history except for 16 years, CN has not been in any war since 1979, which sure makes a great difference in military spending.

    Let us hope that the next USA president will MAGA by looking America inward. Stop messing around other people problem. Other people problem is not American's problem. USA has many talented people and it will be good to rebuild your infrastructure, provide good education-kids are the future talent and improve medical - healthy citizen will contribute better. All these will synergise USA again
