    When the string is stretched, length is increased between the coil (compared with weakened string). In the space between the coil gets: dirt, skin, fat. When you weaken the string tension, length is decreases between the coil. Dirt squeezed out of the string. And slaps discards the remnants of dirt from the strings.
    Sorry for my bad English, I hope you understood =)

      @@xcx8646 yes, it works many times. I gig often and use this technique, it brings the strings back to life, they won't sound dead anymore. It is recommended to use nickel rounds/strings, steels can do damage to the frets.

      Ok, so 5 years later, i know what this method is doing. Its essentially smacking all the dirt off the strings. Its a louder version of rubbing every string with a microfibre cloth. It works, but, its not like the strings are new or whatever....but it works

      @@NevertahnProduction , I mean , does it work just fine to retain the slapping sound?. Cos I'm gonna try this if it doesn't work, I'm gonna boil the shit out of it.

    7 years after watching this video, this is still my go-to technique to refresh my string. Thanks, pal!

    • @sheipukkai
      @sheipukkai 2 роки тому

      @@xcx8646 Oh yes. Still on the same set of strings. Hahahaha. You can keep using this technique as long as your strings can last. It will always refresh your strings, giving them a crisp tone, just like a new strings! But the down side is you need to keep doing it after few days to maintain the tone. But I don't mind at all because you can't beat the tone of a well-seasoned and broken-in strings.

    This is brilliant- I was always wondering why down-tuned strings sounded brighter and clearer once they hit the dead point.This makes sense too, the dead skin cells attach themselves to the grooves of the strings at tuning, when you de-tune you make the space in between the outer wrap loosen allowing the dead skin cells to fall off.

    When you loosen the tension on the strings, it allows the windings to re-compress thus forcing the dirt to the upper surface of the strings. Then when you "slap" them it knocks most of the surface dirt away. I could see using a tooth brush to dig the dirt out of the windings while they are still compressed making them even cleaner.
