I appreciate the way you described it succinctly rather than padding the video for UA-cam. It's easier to understand and remember. I think this will be very helpful!
I agree with Mike. This is one of the shortest, yet one of the most helpful in the explanations of three techniques, and WHY/Where to use them. He doesn't call "hinging" as Lee Likes Bikes does, but he shows you the same body position, reinforcing proper body position for smoothly navigating these obstacles. Thank you, Sr.
I have watched probably 20 drop vids on YT and this was by FAR the best one. That was incredibly well done. I learned more in this 3 min vid than all those other ones combined. I finally understand because all the other vids each teach different techniques but here you show that one is not totally better than another but they are used for different purposes. This makes so much more sense now thank you
Excellent concise vid. A few days earlier I had gotten into a discussion/disagreement with a dogmatic instructor who insisted his one method - similar to your “race” technique - was the correct way to execute all drops. I argued there are various techniques depending on the situation and intent.
Simon, thanks for the concise explanation about drop technique. Also, for including a female MTBer in the demo. It means a lot to be able to watch someone like me. Keep up the great work. Hope to see you at a Spokane clinic sometime.
So many YT drop tutorials talk about one or other of these approaches as if it’s the only one. This is only one I’ve seen that has talked about both as useful depending in what arc fits the terrain.
Now this is a proper how to drop video. Well explained and easy to understand. And importantly highlights the difference between the basic technique and the more advanced race technique (of which - imho - there are a couple of questionable tutorials out there). Top work!
Great video. Short enough to be straight to the point, and accurate. I'm returning to MTBing and starting to tackle drops. The tips here helped me hit my first 2" drop yesterday. Awesome.
@@videosbyevo watching the technique and the body position, and watching you drop the drops with confidence and skill. I also have been practicing the racer drop. Today i cleared my first ever big gap (only a few meters) jump thank to the fluidride Gap video. I have a Drop off thats about 1 meter high with a 200mm step below it thats 300mm long to clear, its a bit daunting i know i can do it but the step is putting me off. I will give it another shot soon
Thank you for the video. This is awesome. My kid and I just got into mountain biking. He absolutely loves it. He wants to do more, but I am beginner as well I don’t have much to teach him. Besides watching UA-cam videos, how can I give him more learning opportunities?
Simon thanks for the review, very clear, and logical explanation. I will definitely try your suggestion. Btw just curious, what is your partner's bicycle (red bike)?
Hi thanks for the detailed explaination! I have a question, whenever I take small drops and jumps, my feet come off the pedals, or I slip off on the landing. I'm guessing this is just becasue of bad form and cheap gear, but is there anything I can do to improve this?
Slipping off the pedals when you land can be caused by technique, and exacerbated by gear. Being loose and ready for the landing can help you absorb the impact with your arms and legs. Riding clipless, or have good flat pedals and bike shoes can help, too, but you don't need good gear to have good technique.
It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
These are flat drops and i like them because theres no skate park and i can just drop on the jumps flat drops like this ive always wanted to know how to drop on Flat drops

I’ve watched so many useless vids on drops... this one is far and away the best!
I've watched plenty of how to ride drops videos and this one is the shortest most helpful explanation yet. This will help loads.
Thank you.
Stoked to hear it. Good luck out there!
Agree. After 20 odd videos and several clinics this is the first time an explanation about drops made logical sense. Well done.
This is just best starter lesson for riding drops that I have found on the Internet. Well done!!
Thank You

I hope like a visitor, not like a patient 😁

The most applicable explanation yet!
Simon, you're one of the best for teaching. I've watched all your videos and everything is always clear and concise. Thanks for all this!

These are some of the best MTB lessons on YT, please do more. One more thing, please lose the creepy music :)
It safe to drop even i'd lock the fork because i am more comfortable when it is locked?
It's possible to hit drops rigid, but it will be more jarring, and there's less margin for error. Proceed with caution.
Chillin at Duthie?
Should I jump at the drop?
Good 👍

So you don't pull up on the bars you just shift your weight back and let the bike do its thing.
Drops are just too damn sexy
