Mine is sort of like that🤭🤭she used to be a jumper and I’m a barrel racer but she hasn’t ridden since she was 15 bc she lost interest but she doesn’t know a lot of things bc she just forgot (btw she’s 36) but once you remind her she’ll know😹 and she doesn’t know a lot about gaming events LOL

I remember seeing moms just like this at lessons back in my day. One woman was so mad that her daughter’s warm blood refused a jump resulting in said child going over the horse and the jump to the ground that she put the horse up for sale and was looking to buy a new horse. My mom is afraid of horses, always has been. She only came with me to an ordinary lesson once when I was 11. I asked her to hold my lesson pony for a few minutes, so I could go to the bathroom before the lesson started. When I came back out, one of the slightly older girls was holding the pony and my mom told me to never leave her alone with a horse like that again, I was told the pony just stood there quietly waiting for my return.
This year I'll be thirty and I have my own horse. My mom is still not super comfortable with horses in general, but she always brings him a bag of carrots whenever she goes to the barn. The bigger the carrot the better, so she can hold them out for him without actually having her hands anywhere near his mouth. He knows she has them, but he is very gentle with her and patient when she sometimes drops them accidentally. It's kind of sweet. I can tell that she loves him for no other reason than he makes me super happy and she has come a long way since she held that pony almost 20 years ago. My mom is pretty awesome for supporting me in something she has never understood or cared much for and my horse is pretty awesome for being inherently aware that he must be gentle with her.

There was a girl at my riding center in like, 1st grade, that thought she was better than everyone and was saying that her dad was going to buy her the lesson horse she rode. She also said she was the one that “tamed it”, which, considering how the horse was an older one, was not true. She also believed she could do everything and asked everyday if we could work on jumping. This would mean me and the other girl in the arena would have to go back to the crossties and change our saddles because she was the only one in an English saddle. She did get her wish and i got the opportunity to walk over a very low jump so now i have “jumped” in western.

My trainer is like this😭 she subtly brags about her childhood, which I'm not even going to lie is impressive. Whenever I loose my stirrups over the jump, she always says "girl how do you keep loosing her stirrups lol! Then again, I was jumping bareback at your age😂" 😂😂. I dont even mind it I think it's funny, and honestly she has the right to brag, that is impressive

my barn specifically has a rule stating that parents cant give input into lessons 😭 ig it mustve happened before so they had to make it official! youll get kicked out if u do it, after a warning lol

It makes sense. Even helpful input isn't helpful because it confuses the kid because they don't necessarily know who to focus their attention on and listen to. But I'm sure the rule came about because there were parents giving less than helpful input lol

This is sooo true! I teach riding classes myself and I have no patience for parents like that. When they start commenting I politely ask them to go and watch in the canteen. If they stay and keep commenting I ask them to please be quiet. If they Still keep commenting I step aside and invite them in the arena and ask if they want to take over.

Years ago we had our first pony at quite a rough and ready yard on a mixed farm. Most of us just went to local shows within hacking distance for fun but a few people took things more seriously. There was one girl who had a lovely show pony (and she was a fab rider) but she never lived down the time we all went to a show and her mum stood at the side of the arena and shouted "look between his ears" at the top of her voice! It wasn't even bad advice, it just struck a bunch of teenagers as absolutely hilarious.🤣

My mum used to ride so if I’m doing something wrong, she’ll tell me after the lesson (if my strict instructor who corrects everything doesn’t) what it was and what I can do to improve it. She would never shout like that unless I was in a situation where the lesson horses decide to be cranky and start kicking out and it’s almost happened 🥲
