    Great video as always and very informative. So much so that I don't want this 😂 I wondered if it would suit my Kinetics Brommie but the more I watched the more I realised I didn't like it. Not impressed by the bracket and although in some ways I'd like to put my light there to free up space on bars, changing light modes on the move looks risky. Thinking back to last night I cycled through the park in the pitch dark on full beam mode illuminating my path. As I hit the road I changed to flashing mode, to be seen rather than to see. Easy without stopping with light on the bars but not sure I'd try that on the move. Its a small thing but the final nail for that light. Enjoyed the video though

    I absolutely love these videos thank you guys! I just retired some of my trusty lezyne gear. (MegaXl, countless lights) People say they're old and outdated, I think they're designed resilient. Try finding usb c in some of these far flung places we all end up. The standard usb is cumbersome but hey it works and someone ALWAYS has one available. Desperate to try this bike out for size !

    As always, informative video! I did have a look on your site and the Brompton site... and generally with a quick Google search and I don't seem to see this light anywhere - unless I am missing something. I see a light that looks a bit similar with a micro USB port (for charging) on the Brompton site.

    Enjoyed the video. Well presented, as always 😊 Apologies but just my findings on Lezyne: In particular, the 1000 XL. Ran out of juice from fully charged in under 2 hrs. On/off switch, silicone blister broke away after a few weeks. USB point awkward with tacky rubber protection cap, and it cost me approx £80 for the privilege 😮‍💨 I recommend Poundvalue, for a decent set of lights...Other value outlets are available 🤓

    I have the G Line and have also fitted the front light. I thought it was just me doing something incorrect, I tried putting the washer behind the bracket but it's no better. I've noticed on yours even though you have tightend it down to 4nm it still pushes the musgaurd down to the tyre and i have notice on yours in the video that the bracket is not straight. Great video love the outakes lol

    I wonder why light manufacturers have almost entirely gone over to lights you have to charge up. I use lights which are powered by AA or AAA batteries and I don’t have to worry about constant recharging. I put batteries in last winter and they’re still working now although I will replace now to ensure I have working lights through this winter.
    Other than that, this new light bracket looks like it could break easily, thin plastic. The Brompton light I bought with my M3L in early 2015 attaches to the handlebar and is still going strong after eight years of use with no sign of any deterioration.
    The new light patterns on this new light are excellent, however.

    Interesting light. Something tells me i would prefer the “german”/euro version. Should have elaborated on the two. I guess that since the folded G-Line surely must be outside of the maximum size of regular luggage (i.e. bigger than 62 linear inches) it can only fly if you pay the additional fee for "sporting equipment".
      Meaning it's the same additional cost as a regular diamond frame non-folding bicycle.
      (Since the folded classic Brompton and its cardboard box are just inside those maximum luggage dimensions of 62 linear inches I assume that a folded G-Line and its cardboard box must surely be too large to fly as regular luggage)
      (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

    why a different light in germany ? Thanks for your video

    • @brilliantbikes
      @brilliantbikes  2 місяці тому +2

      Good question!
      We "think" that in Germany, flashing lights are not allowed - so the one made for the German market has no flashing mode - just steady
      We also "think" that there was a study somewhere that showed that flashing lights are more difficult to judge distance for drivers - hence the reason they aren't allowed in some countries

    • @michaeljones6144
      @michaeljones6144 2 місяці тому +10

      In Germany they have the StVZO regulations (Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung), or Road Traffic Licensing Regulations. These don't allow flashing lights on bikes-just steady ones. The beams must be focussed downward on the road rather than as a big circle of light, so there is a marked vertical cutoff. This prevents blinding of other road users (bikes or cars). The prohibition on flashing lights is fairly sensible as it can be hard for drivers to judge the distance of bike on the road and this applies on bike paths, too. Similarly, rear lights can not have a flashing mode. The colour temperature of the beams on front lights must be under 5000K. When you ride with an StVZO light it's amazing how effective they are and how well they illuminate the road, rather than the sky.

      @@michaeljones6144Yep, i’m running a 3 euro one I bought from Aktion in Saarbrucken in place of the original reflector on mine (already had a gopro mount there, bent the wire bracket that came with the light to fit in the mount and bolted it up), and the beam pattern is actually really useful for road riding, and didn’t bother putting the halfords 1000 lumen mega death beam I was using before back on

      First thing that came up after watching torquing that bracket. Why not make it in the shape so it fits the fork? If you torque it it should stay it the place where it is supposed to be. Now you can actually rotate it and it might not stay in place with all these bumps. Also a fixed beam height?

      Beam pattern is stricter in Germany. Source I lived in UK and Germany. StVZO Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung Set regulations sort of like DVSA in UK. The beam pattern shields the top of the light projection to avoid glare to other road users.
      Irony is some German cars with new LED headlights are absolutely blinding on main beam. Go figure .
