    Why does Geometry Dash's Featured tab feel so samey? The answer to this is surprisingly simple; it stems from how you get inspired. In this video, we unpack the most efficient ways to get inspired, and how revolutionary creators like Para and Overdefo use this knowledge to make unique levels. Funnily enough, looking for inspiration outside Geometry Dash is the best move if you're trying to innovate. This will provide you with more content that you can reference as you create.

    I appreciate how straightforward this video is, and actually explaining _why_ something is the way it is.

    It feels so surreal to see parts of the "Getting Ideas" guide in video form, I love this!

    in my opinion, theres a large discrepancy between the people who can create good looking levels and good playing levels. the rare cases, such as those mentioned as innovators in this video or more recent creators like bli are the ones making masterpieces while those who can only make good deco make boring samey feeling levels while those who can only make good gameplay get little attention due to how their levels do not get rated

    The way I get inspired is by listening to a song I'm really interested by, and imagining a whole world behind it. This is why I really like using random IDs for songs, so that I can come up with something unique. I like your videos by the way, I'm waiting for your next ones

    The problem with my inspiration is that I get influenced primarily by musical themes, mostly abstract philosophical concepts like death and life. Death metal is helpful while I decorate, but I need to branch out into something that isn't metal music or Renaissance oil paintings.

      @GDCreatorSchool  Рік тому +5

      Usually when I build I try to ground abstract themes like those by putting them in a narrative. For example, you could have a level where the whole idea is that every block you touch restores life to a dead forest or something.

      @@GDCreatorSchool Now that is a good idea. Narrative is something I love, so I'll see what I can do.

    when I first started creating I looked to the outside world for inspiration, but I myself was inexperienced. now that I have some rates I think this video was a good wake up call to me, thanks for the inspiration :)

    The reason getting ideas outside of gd is important is because the game built itself a certain style and way of making things. Newer players who have barely played the game can usually make stuff more interesting because they aren't used to the certain style everyone developed in the game yet. I'd say most of creating a unique level is understanding the principles and theories of art and just building anything you imagine without thinking about other levels much. This idea applies to gameplay too.

    The go outside part is actually good, like for example if you wanna make a realistic level you gotta look at everything outside

    (First of all, i don’t really finish levels but i do get time sometimes to make something) My way of getting inspiration is just living my life normally and then i get intresting ideas from music, art and others. Then i just make what comes to my mind without really thinking thatluch since i already have the idea in mind.

    I'm 16 seconds in and I have to say that it's also Robtop's fault. No one wants to do a level using Flaaroni's cartoon style because they don't get rated

    nowadays people just want creator points and since a level being "good" doesnt really mean anything for it to be rated, people just make generic levels and show off the achievement to their friends...
