Papakolea Green Sand Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii

www.jordanouts... The Papakolea Green Sand Beach is located on the south end of the Big Island of Hawaii. This green sand has olivine, which is a common mineral that crystalizes from volcanic magma. The hike is a 5.6 mile out and back hike or you can pay $40 per person to have a truck drive you to the beach. It’s a maze of dirt roads that are really rough, but the beach makes it all worth it.

I went there last week, they only asked for $20 each person, we gave $25 each, $5 for tips. It last total of 2.5 hours, we left 1pm and came back 3:30pm with 45 mins playing on the beach time.

Was the path down to the beach the same path you took up?? It looked very steep and awkward!

There were 2 different paths. We took a more open one down and the one you saw going up.
