TV shows have improved so much over the years. During Ben’s first scene, I was so confused asking myself, who is this guy? Where is this going? Little do you know how much of an impact he was going to have on the show. Incredible performance.

  • @shauntecristo

His performance...one of THE best acted and most powerful performances I have EVER seen in my entire life. This monologue scene in the cab....man. I will never forget. Jesus. I've never felt so crushed and emotionally heartbroken for a character - a guy trying his hardest to just do the right thing from how he could understand it, and from a real child-like innocent and pure heart, yet always having to battle and undo the actions from his own mental illness that eventually swallowed him whole. He was thrown into a lions den and a sea of sharks, a world he never asked to be in and could sadly never survive the cruelty in the end. Ben was larger than life and my heart went out to him. Tom Pelphrey...unforgettable performance. Every scene with him had my full attention and empathy. Amazing. Give this guy an Emmy NOW!

It was a great scene for sure, but I thought the scene with Wyatt at Darlene's house even better. It showed how hard he was trying to do the right thing and had no idea what that was. Have to wonder where this guy has been. He's almost 40 years old and seems to have been mostly on soap operas.

Ryan Hagensen because season of ozark is not all about marty anymore. It was all about undermining and undermining and undermining, and trying to legit stay alive. This isn’t about Marty anymore, it’s about keeping everyone in his family away from dying, Marty did get screen time, like calm tf down it’s not a damn first person story and the show woulda died down if it was all about Marty....

In the first few episodes where Ben appears (before his mental illness was revealed), I thought he was gonna be a bad guy somehow. But the brilliant part of this show’s plot is that there are enough bad guys...everyone is corrupt. The best way to cause conflict this season was to bring on the most pure-hearted good guy. That made for some of the most explosive scenes we’ve seen on Ozark so far. What a joy to watch!

The character’s progression into mania shows glimpses of how bipolar disorder affects a person’s thinking, judgment, and mood. But most of all, the show’s writers and cast were able to capture the pain that is accompanied by this invisible illness.

A lot of people are diagnosed bipolar in their later teens to twenties. So when he talks about remembering what it was to be ‘normal’, he’s referring to when he was younger before the condition appeared. It makes you wonder if Jonah in season 4 may be written to have an emerging mental illness himself? Wendy did state that Jonah was ‘so much like his uncle’! Awesome show and the acting is phenomenal!

He played this dam character to the T. He would lose his mind and Mendy would drag him back again. I actually felt bad for him in the end, because he couldn't help himself. This guy deserves some kind of an award. BRAVO !!!!

1:57 - 2:52 is how I feel every single day. It’s so tiring and it’s overwhelming and every day I wanna cry, shout, and escape reality. I’ve never been diagnosed with anything but depression, but seeing how SIMILAR Ben and I are destroyed me. This scene, and when they locked him in the hospital. Completely ripped me apart.

Probably one of the best, and most memorable, monologues to take place in the backseat of a car since Kevin Spacey’s diatribe in director David Fincher’s mid-90’s thriller, Se7en; where Spacey played the pseudo-evangelical psychopathic serial killer, “John Doe”. 🏆

The truly scary part isn't that he has these thoughts or struggles to say what he has in his head. It is the way he goes back to "normal" at the end of the clip. Making it unclear which part of him was him in control and which part was him losing it.

  • @LeonineShift

Did you notice how Ben, The Ultimate Rebel, recites our programmed mantra as soon as he notices the guy is a former Marine/Soldier of "Thank You for Your Service"....Right after he rejects being told his reaction has to be "normalized". Pretty good point there on how pervasive and deep our cultural programming is, particularly when we think we are immune/safe. Season 3 was very well done.
