I've seen car 8 track players that push the radio dial aside to be played, but i've never seen a car cassette player that does it before. It very well might be more common than I thought, though.
looks like the FM has trouble decoding FM stereo. If the circuit board has a 19khz pilot adjust, then you use a small screwdriver to turn the pot until it the FM stereo indicator stays on when tuned to an FM station

I think it's just because the antenna for the FM band isn't connected properly.
