What will you do when the internet goes down? Where will you get your information? Or, tired of big-tech and the mainstream media deciding what you should know? Then you might need a shortwave radio receiver (receive only, it does not transmit) like the Elite 750 Shortwave radio receiver from Eton. A shortwave radio receiver will let you tune-in stations and ham-radio operators from around the world, but the Elite 750 can also receive longwave radio, midwave radio, commercial FM, AM, AirBand, and SSB, in addition to shortwave radio signals.

I used skip in high school on home made equipment. That was in 1963. During the lock Down I earned amateur Extra. What a brain work out. I am 77 now. My fight now is Cancer. Your presentation makes me smile. Thank you. RWB ❤🎉
aw man, im sorry to hear about your battles with cancer. i wish you all the best! congrats on your amateur extra license!
Congrats on the Extra and praying for your rapid return to good health. 73
Try ivermectin sir..
Prayers for the cancer fight. Congrats on the Extra as well. I still have my Dad’s old Hallicrafters SX-130 SW. Just got it working again. I have this featured video radio too. ‘73!
I used to skip classes in high school and was suspended for it a couple of times. Does that count? 😂
I grew up with shortwave radio. From the 60s until the late 80s it was alive with state sponsored stations around the world. With 24\7 non-stop propaganda, it was a great tool to teach young people just how full of crap governments can be.
When I was a kid on my great-uncle's radio, I liked listening to Radio Moscow/Kiev/Cuba and then Voice of America to hear the completely opposite descriptions of the same events. My skepticism regarding "news" media grew from there.
My grandfather in Germany around 1965 had a shortwave radio I liked to play around with , in fact I found some rock n roll station in UK once ...which was awesome for a young teen .

@@mayanboricua To his credit, he very accurately predicted our times, back in the early 90's or before.
I’m a HAM radio operator and I’m in full support of your free speech to speak about whatever your heart desires. 😊 Great Video!
I have this unit from a few years ago when it was a Grundig Satellit 750. From my attic I have 80 feet of cheap wire running down the garden and have heard stations from all over the world.
It feels hefty,well-made and sounds nice. Great radio. Great video, cheers. P. S It cost $250 when I bought it.maybe 9 years ago
I have the same Grudig Satellit 750👍
Good video DE W5THC
There is an option for that radio also on the Amazon link, what are the primary differences between the two?

You won my subscription with your political correctness. 😂

I like that you are featuring other radio related products, apart from GMRS… Thank you!
“incompetent yet diverse…” I really like your phraseology.
go to the channel called "John Talks". He's got short daily videos of our government in action (he doesn't narrate or anything, just the clips themselves that leave you jaw dropped)
That's exactly what it is; competence doesn't seem figure into the equation.
"Incompetent, yet diverse" is redundant.
I bought one after watching this video. I realize I could have gotten a cheaper radio but I liked your description of the tuning action. I’m happy with it and there is a lot for me to learn after a life of radio ignorance. Thanks!
What cheaper radio? I'm interested
I’m tuned in to your answer 😂
Hi there, I am new to your channel. Like you, I am a novice in radio. I am a retired LEO and worked for a Motorola Shop in my area for some time, but I am retired now. If I might, I would like to pass on to you one piece of information about Scanners. Many States do not allow civilians (sorry for that) to have Scanners in Automobiles. Having a Amateur Radio License allows you to have a scanner in your car. Each State is a little different though. I wont bore anyone with my experiences with Motorola or being a Police Officer for 36.5 years. Yes, I have a Amateur License. I have found it very interesting to listen to Short Wave and HAM from all over the world. Enough about me. I'll be watching your channel and bore you with a come back now and then. I did Subscribe to you tonight.
Well less then half the states have any restriction on scanners. Maybe cops should obey the law and they wouldn’t have to resort to politicians restricting citizens from checking up on them.
I have this receiver and really like it. (I am a glad ham.) I was able to utilize my existing HF antennae to increase the reception greatly. HF antennae are easy to make. Good review.
Glad hams for the win! I'm selling around $1500 of tax calculators that I've had so I can afford some new radios... starting with the QYT KT8900
I’m leaning toward this receiver but am not quite there, yet. How long have you had yours? From the many reviews and comments I have read on different forums, it seems people either love/like it or hate it.
Have had mine for a little over a year now and cant find anything to dislike yet. @@maureen3134
I can remember the glory days of International Shortwave Broadcasting. Sadly, it's long gone and will never return. Nonetheless, there are still plenty of interesting things to listen to if you look in the right places. Everything that you do on the internet is tracked and stored. However, there is no way to track what people are listening to on a shortwave receiver. Yes, buy a shortwave receiver while you still can.
Plandemic ! Skamdemic !,, 😂😊yes thanks my friend 😊
Nice shortwave radio...Eton used to be called Grundig, which was a great shortwave radio maker As for WWIII if that does indeed happen and goes nuclear (even small tact nukes), we have to worry about EMP's killing all our electronics. Faraday cage! Great video sir.
"As for WWIII if that does indeed happen" virtually everyone will die, so it is silly to suggest that "preparation" is meaningful 🤪

Randy, I am not trying to be a know-it-all, just helpful. You may want to get those Duracells out of that nice radio, ASAP. I have had numerous flashlights and other devices ruined by them over the decades. For some reason, they are very much prone to leak, even when nowhere near completely drained of energy.
I have generally had good results with Energizers, though I feel certain other brands may yield good results, also.
Yeah, plus one on problems with long term storage of alkaline batteries inside equipment. I've had same experience of all brands, although apparently lithium battery equivalents don't have the leakage issue (if you can afford them!).
I babysit my radios jealously and I've had some Duracells last for years. Energizers-different story.
I quit buying Duracells because of how horrid the leak issue has become.
Thanks for the video. I bought this radio last year. I think it is worth the price. I bought it so I could stay connected to the world when the power goes out or the Internet is not working. Or I guess even if the crazy people take over (more than already) at least I can hear about what is going on. Plus there is a cool factor in listening to shortwave radio for old farts / radio dorks like me. Looking at getting a CB handheld that operations on FM next. No, I don't need it... just want it. Thanks again!
This video is extremely frustrating. Extremely frustrating that there's only one thumbs up button! Bravo sir, another fine video. Keep up the good work. 👍👏

Randy, I have seen TONS of reviews on this radio, but yours is the ABSOLUTE easiest to understand. I would like to see you do more SW radio reviews if you can wedge them into your schedule. 🙂
Only one left in stock and now $499. Too rich for my blood. Thanks, Randy....(insert sarcasm) 😉
Having some shortwave listening experience over the last 30+ years with several cheap and one $150.00 price range Eton E5 radio, I presume the model profiled here would be a very decent home "table top" unit. The multiplicity of frequency options should make for a very reasonable portal for information in an " information blackout" scenario. Being able to copy high frequency SSB HAM traffic over great distances is very very good. No matter what or where something is happening, someone will be talking about it. Good video review and great suggestion for the not tuned into radio folks that were wondering about "things".
I bought an Eton Elite Executive, Tecsun PL-660, and Tecsun PL-330 for about 300 bucks total. They all have external antenna ports, are very portable, and you can use simple USB powered NiMH chargers with solar panels to keep them running. The PL-330 can be directly USB charged and can also be set for use with external antennas on the AM broadcast band. Plus with three receivers I have redundancy.
Back in the mid- to late-1990s, I had a long wire antenna hooked up to a SW radio from Radio Shack. I used to listen to the BBC World Service in the evenings, along with some German broadcasters. Most of the stations I listened to have quit broadcasting to North America because (a) cost, (b) lack of listeners, and (c) the internet.
So did I. Strangely, there was a duo on Radio Moscow that were hilarious.
Good memories. Around those same years, I also liked to listen good music at WRNO (World Radio New Orleans) and news at the BBC, and adjusted my clocks and watches with the signal synced to the atomic time. "At the tone, the time is.."
Hello Sir,
I have watched several of your videos now, and I want to thank you for your “regular guy” reviews of what are complicated devices, in particular, a recent review of what many consider the best scanner. I will be watching more of your videos, as I find them not too overwhelming, yet enough for getting the general idea of the product in question.
Thanks again.

I could care less about hamm radios or short wave radios, I watch this channel for the sheer value of entertainment! You sir are awesome!
If you could care less.. then you have not reached zero caring.. there is therefore still a degree of caring that you are doing..
I LOVE This Guy! He knows his stuff and has the right attitude. I am ordering the ETON Elite 750 tonight!
No belt clip? How am I supposed to impress the chicks?
I took a $35 gamble (as it didn't have a power supply so as to test it), and scored the Grundig version of this from my favorite second-hand store.
Brought it home, attached the proper AC/DC adapter to it, and it powered up! - - Some of the controls were on the "scratchy" side, and not consistent in their performance, but less than 45 minutes later, and with some electronic components spray cleaner, the controls were back to operating perfectly!
I still need to string a super-long antenna up in my attic so as to test its full capabilities, but so far, the performance has been more than satisfactory! The one feature (so far) that I wished it had that it doesn't, is the ability to set the clock in regular "civilian" (AM/PM) time, vs the mandated 24hr (military) time. Great find, and I can't help but wonder about the "Why's" of the person who gave this gem away!!
Btw, can't believe that you're not happy with many of President Biden's appointments and nominees for Government positions! Being a person who has had an interest in aviation for over 50 years, I was just "thrilled" that he nominated someone to head the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) that was 100% "qualified"; though he had ZERO, ZERO, ZERO, aviation experience, having not so much as spent 30 minutes behind the controls of a Piper Cub (and probably hasn't a clue as to what Microsoft Flight Simulator is!), BUT he is 100% "WOKE", and therefore would meet all of the "stringent" vetting requirements that this administration has become so (IN) famous for!! (He also has an equally qualified "expert" on national transportation issues, as witnessed by the recent cataclysmic train derailment in Ohio!!!)
The train derailments are caused by republican deregulation of industry. And could you please explain Dejoy's qualifications to run the US Postal Service?
$500 BUCKS??? You're out of your mind. I'll stick with the Boefang UV-5R Upgrade, thank you very much...
Beautiful! Maybe they'll watch and the next version will have an AC power supply that fits in that little compartment. I'm looking for one with fewer features in the $200 range because I'm a cheap old bastard.
Love when people sit safe and sound in America and complain about our “inept government”. We have it better than any other civilization in history and we can’t watch a video without people getting their panties in a wad about the government. No matter who is in office I gotta get up and go to work every morning. Thank god for channels that keep it real and grounded.
It is a great radio. I have had one for years and still works like a champ
Glad to hear, considering this for my first sw radio. I've own a few walkies and ham(not for transmit, just listening). I was particularly looking for something that has good support for different antenna and this seems to be a solid option.
CC Crane has a great selection of radios that would interest Prepers. Stay safe.
How can I do anything but like this video, given your excellent early, non-radio, commentary. 🙂
So, HAM is not just my favorite cold cut for my sandwich and side loading is not sliding a cheese slice in to your sandwich😊
As a General Class ham, I appreciate your productions and your personality with the ribbing. There's no fun if guys can't give each other a little $hit.
Are you sure you’re from California? I thought all you guys just loved the current administration to death, and even if you don’t care for the constant war mongering, you would be happy with the inclusivity.
Almost choked with laughter when I read the shirt.😂
Sounds like an awesome radio, but I’d still like the option to talk if I needed to….I mean ww3 would kinda be an emergency
lol tropic thunder paused on the wall, awesome!
I owe you an apology! My previous (and obviously deleted) comment conflicted with your.... long pause... affiliate link below. I really need to drink more tequila, I mean coffee before I comment. I will stay quiet. 69
Looks like a very nice radio to me. Well build aswell. At the moment i'm using an SDRPlay RSP1A 1 kHz - 2 GHz, and i'm very happy with that.
No DAB built into this unit? I have a few radios too but none of them have all the tuners, maybe that's just not possible??
I'm in the UK, I researched Klaus Schwab and this Great Reset agenda 4 years ago, well aware of what they are trying to do, one world government, CBDC social credit score system, 15 minute cities etc. If there is a nuclear war, I doubt that any radio will still work, ok you may have stored it in a Faraday cage but realistically will any of the radio stations be able to transmit? Our BBC only tells lies anyhow, don't trust them at all.
My entire garage had been turned into a shrine to you Randy. Your picture is surrounded by candles and cheap Chinese radios. All hail Randy!
Fantastic video, informative and funny!
Does you buddy really think you’re “skipping” communications around a giant ball!?
The top of the earth is flat. That’s exactly why you can transmit and receive such incredible distances!

Myself I have a Tecsun H-501x. My first love was the Zenith Transoceanonic 7000. There is a potential problem I see is that the shortwave/Ham users/broadcasters are required to have an FCC license. If they severely restrict or even shut down the internet to control the spread of news and information. Then, they will undoubtedly go through the database of licensed operators and shut them down, and seize their equipment...
Yea but does it take Glock mags?
I think you might could stuff a G-26 or a G-27 mag in that storage compartment. I think it would definitely hold my NAA mini-revolver in .22 Short.
😁
Maybe Walther's???
your radio collection getting big since your first youtube vid👍
turned you right off when you used the fake quote signs . also how or why do you have so many radios ? hope i didnt break youtubes " terms of service " or should i say CENSORSHIP !
Oh my lord, that T shirt! Randy your too much 😂
You are so polite while saying RTFM!!!!! It's quite funny.
If I buy this radio, and learn how to turn a knob, does this mean that I can be called a Short Wave Radio “Operator”?
For the ground steak, I would suggest that chuck steak works better than flank steak. Take it from a sad old ham ;)
This looks like as very useful radio, but you need to remember you'll need different antennas for certain bands, like the aircraft (120-130 MHz) band.
I think I'd use the secret storage area for an extra set of batteries, or an antenna wire, earphones, or maybe chocolates? ;)😉
Other than that, I think it's more important to know *where* to tune (tornado, hurricane, riots, SHTF, etc.)
I haven't found any useful books or web sites for that- they only care about ham radio!
That shirt.... I want that (and also your Mom)
I have this radio. It’s my most prized radio.
No Not Me! I have a KG-UV9G PRO GMRS Two-Way Radio & SHTF Scanner!
This is a very helpful video. Straight forward, logical, clear, and told me what I needed to know as a novice without prompting more technical questions in my mind, than answers - which is what usually happens with UA-cam SW videos. Many thanks for uploading it.
As a long time "Expert" on heavy knobs I can say with confidence that THAT knob is not heavy... If it were heavy, as in heavy like the radio knobs of old, you would be able to turn said knob briskly and have said knob continue to spin after having released said knob.
I used to have a eton sw radio until a cat knocked it off my window sill and broke it. Heard all kinds of crazy stuff on it and I loved tuning into the atomic clock.
Kitty Cat killed the radio!

Great Video, love the shirts. I have a couple of small shortwave radios and after researching, it was my understanding that shortwave in and of itself was diminishing. This radio will be best for listening to the Ham frequencies as I am sure, in a SHTF scenario, there will be a lot of chatter ...

0:24 hello based department
I think World War lll started February 24th 2022. Really nice radio. I looked at this radio long ago because I'm a prepper and I wanted something for emergencies but this is out of my price range. I ended up with the Voyager Pro radio from Kaito. Unfortunately I would hate to be in a situation where I actually need this radio but by the way this war is going it looks like that's what's going to happen.
WW III will start when AI starts it - soon.
Really wanted to hear your opinion about the radio, not your political opinions. It's your channel and I realize that you can do what you want with it, but I imagine there are others who feel the way I do. Like I said, you have the right to say and do what you want here, but you might want to put your political opinions in another place.
Thanks for watching! But if I want any advice from you, I'll ask for it.
If this, or my political commentary makes you sad, please feel free to go away.
Dang...I _wondered_ what those holes in my wall were. I was just getting ready to fill them in with liquid plaster and paint over them. Now I'm glad I didn't! Since watching this, I've been plugging all sorts of things into those holes --- things that I thought were broken. But since plugging them into the wall holes, they've sprung into life! I thought they were broken! Once again, watching this channel has saved me tons of money.
Great stuff Randy, better than George Carlin!
I am glad that you mentioned the administration's march to folly. Those of us actually paying attention realize that WWIII is on the table for this diverse administration. We should all be terrified.
I'm ordering one of these asap. The Barry White knob was the clinching reason. Thank you sir. Btw the display peel was very soothing.
Looks like this radio is very popular. Anyone know of a battery mod for it? The D cell is a negative for me.
Amazon rechargeable lithium d cell sized batteries. I bought some in C size for a flashlight, and can even use them as a power bank
@@jimf1964 I've been lightly researching a good shortwave radio for a while. I ended up ordering the Tecsun PL-330. It looks to be a better receiver although the sound quality is likely worse due to the smaller speaker. It'll be a good intro I guess. This video was still the catalyst for me to finally do it.
Does anyone know where I can get the correct power adapter? I have seen one on Amazon that says it will fit the Eton Elite 750 but not enough info to try it. It requires a 6 vdc / 500mA ,negative polarity ,supply. Not sure what size the straight fitting is. Or where I may actually get an oem one? Has anyone purchased and used an aftermarket charger for their 750? Thanks for any assistance
Think there are these "Multi-plug" chargers with a decent assortment of the most common powers and plug types.
Inexpensive, too...
One really important good feature with this radio is that the power brick is a transformer type, not the switching type that will have "spurious emissions" that will interfere with weak signals.
One of the most important videos I've seen here.
You rock ! Thank you.
radio is cool....but where can I get one of those t-shirts...classic.
Do you think we will ever see shortwave DVR type functionality using micro sd card storage? For 20 years I've thought FM/AM car radios should have a rewind playback feature and now that I've spent the past 2 years dipping my toes into ham radio, I feel like sd card recording functionality could be very useful during and after emergencies.
I feel Randy is edging right now. He’s getting close. He feels the thrill of excitement and then backs off. Look at him. He’s asking about splatter, skip, hell even HF at this point. He’s got a cool looking “receiver”. But what happens when he wants to talk more “fars” away than his GMRS radios will allow?? I know for sure imma stay tuned to see not if, but when Randy decides to get his Ham license. Even though he said he never will. May Xenu bless us all. 69.

I have the Tecsun version of this radio. They are bloody good! FYI, the empty space in the back of the receiver is where the power cord comes out of my radio. It is hardwired into the radio on mine and the empty space is where the power cord is stored when going portable using the batteries. It's great to see you have one of these great receiver's!
