Rick, we have plates and markers on the trees on some fairways and its to indicate where your ball entered if you knock one into the trees. To help find your ball and speed up play!!
I think the markers are to help golfers if they hit in the trees, because all the pine tree trunks look the same, the markers help you work out where abouts you went in. I.e. Off the tee if you hit to the third tree left of the marker. It's easier to locate your ball. Who knows!
One of my favourite courses. I think holes 7 and 8 were made 20 or 30 years ago as they lost a few to coastal erosion. 10th par 3 was a par 4 or 5 I think playing to current green from near the coast. can't imagine the old holes were better than the new ones though.
Love the question about the tree logos and got a great laugh out of it! I am new to your channel and have enjoyed your videos! I will also share that your Ping G series review helped drive me to my final decision and I am loving them. - green dot baby first fitted clubs ever. - 16.3 handicap and trending down I hope..
Awesome Vlog Rick and great last hole but 'never up, never in' mate!! Gotta gives those putts a chance every time. Fair play to Rob though as some great shots in there. Swing looks good if a bit rushed at times and I like his attitude. No doubt off camera he has the game a mental strength to play to 13, single figures though, that will take some work. Great work as always.
Hey Rick, Im a 17 year old golfer just starting up, im curious to know how long it takes to lower your handicap to a good enough level to compete. Also thanks for the great Video's :)
Would love to see you, Rob and Pete come and play some of the top courses over here in the North East. Formby looks a stunning course but is probably well out of my budget :(
people slagging rob don't have a clue. I play with 13 handicaps most weekends they struggle to break 90 at least 3 weeks out of 4, occasionally they will have a round in the high 70's. 2 or 3 good rounds a year keeps their handicap down. He is a mid handicap not low single figures. He is going to regularly make bogey's and doubles. Give the guy a break!
+Jumari Henry... When was the last time you played in front of an online audience of 100,000+???? All the while knowing that each and everyone of those audience members wanted to see you do something that in all honesty, you shouldn't be able to do???? Handicapping makes this game more enjoyable and definitely helps level the field for all of us. But let's not forget that the better golfer you are, the lower your cap. This means that regardless of the strokes given you should play to your own number (or better) thus winning against a higher handicapper. Please don't act like you've never shanked two in a row, lord knows we all have at some point in our lives. Dobber played as I would expect anyone with a 13-handi to play in those circumstances. Started off well, realized how good his positioning was, and then (perhaps) the pressure set in. Tension is a killer and nothing brings physical tension like mounting pressure to preform.
Great looking course. Just a thought rick I think your still thinking about your qualifying round too much, as when you were practicing for open qualifying you were hitting them great. No doubt you will find your swing again
Potter, thanks for the laughs buddy. A big snap hook deep into the trees, that's followed by a shank along the floor trying to get it out, which is followed by another shank. Have you not considered having lessons ?
Bro I know right he is terrible. He is fortunate that he is a 13 handicapper, or else he would have been 11 over par thru nine holes. Robs new name is Rob Shankoholic Potter
13:30 to 13:40 in this video : Rule 10 of golf says that after both players have started play of the hole, the ball farther from the hole is played first. Even though Rob is off the green, Rick should have putted first because his ball was "a mile away" from the hole and further than Rob. Furthest from the hole plays first, irrespective of whether a player's ball is on the green or not. You need to revisit the rules Rick ... you'll need that for the '17 Open qualifying :)
Hmmm ... good point. Rules can be different for matchplay. I think it's more an etiquette thing about who plays first irrespective of the rules. Thanks for the comment.
Stunning course, shame you let Rick get in your grid Rob, take solace in the fact he needed tricks and mind games to win. Quest for single figures will happen sooner than the Quest for the Open! Great vlog as always lads.
I have been a member at Formby GC for almost 20 years. I knew you would run out of fairway on 8 playing from the yellows. Next time go for the 'Tiger line' cutting the left side
Rick Im pretty sure those images on the trees are to show ground staff that the tree needs maintenance or something like that, at-least that what google sais
Looks lovely! Great vlog! Rob needs to seriously work on his camera skills, shocking! Lol love the man tho! Come to Mill ride in Ascot! You'll love it, both of you will!
21:06 Gotta practice a few of these "take your medicine" shots on the range every once in a while. More often than not, I think Rob's result is what the majority of us amateurs experience with these shots.
Those little shots out of trees are a nightmare, i always lose concentration due to just treating it as a sideways chip and thinking its a lost shot and do similar to Rob. Nice course though, i like the courses that make you have to think each shot like that.
Rick would beat couch lockey hands down because lockey can't use a driver to save his life. So yeah Rick vs Mark Crossfield, but Rick shiels will win because he can drive the ball 20 to 30 yards further than Mark.
I think Potter needs the next size up on those pants. The tightness is messing with his swing.. You should have gave him a couple extra strokes just for wearing them today.
+thesasquatch bro so what if it was not his day, he should not have hooked the ball in the woods, followed by two consecutive shanked balls. Given the fact that he is a 13 handicapper
Rick, we have plates and markers on the trees on some fairways and its to indicate where your ball entered if you knock one into the trees. To help find your ball and speed up play!!
Ken, are you a member there at Formby?
I think the markers are to help golfers if they hit in the trees, because all the pine tree trunks look the same, the markers help you work out where abouts you went in. I.e. Off the tee if you hit to the third tree left of the marker. It's easier to locate your ball. Who knows!
Rob brings a reality to the videos which most of us mid figure handicappers appreciate and he does it on camera too! Giving Rob the LOVE!
I would say this was the second best course I've seen you play. Absolutely breathtaking. Number one is, of course, TERRE BLANCHE.
Terre Blanche was magical...
3rdgroove How could anyone not love Terre Blanche? Just like a nice 1995 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, non?
the courses he played in oz were incredible, nsw golf club, brookwater and hamilton island from memory.
hannameister oi, oi, oi
Your videos make me so happy man, another great video
thats what golf is about, funny with your mates, stunning photos taken and a round of golf.
Hi Rick, quick question. What is Rob's swing speed and does he play a regular or stiff shaft?
Great videos Rick from a fan across the pond!
Rob, you did not let us hackers down. You played well and gave Rick a run for his money. Good job.
Gorgeous sunset. I am dying to get across to the UK to play some. God willing I will have the opportunity one day
15:36 that laugh tho! You guys are welcome
#QUESTFORSINGLEFIGURES FOR ROB POTTER !!!!
One of my favourite courses. I think holes 7 and 8 were made 20 or 30 years ago as they lost a few to coastal erosion. 10th par 3 was a par 4 or 5 I think playing to current green from near the coast. can't imagine the old holes were better than the new ones though.

Gotta love videos of sky and random trees when Rob Potter is behind the camera!
get you a man who appreciates you as much as rick appreciates backdrops
"It might just still be you" the killer words you never want to hear...
The sighns it to help you if you shot out from fairway. You see if the ball get out first or second marker etc.
Maybe the tree signs are for range finders
Hey Rick, Im a 17 year old golfer just starting up, im curious to know how long it takes to lower your handicap to a good enough level to compete. Also thanks for the great Video's :)
Thanks for the advice but that's not that nice lol, what makes Rick a dickhead? He seems like a very nice guy
I started when i was 11 and when i was 12 i had 26 in handicap and were ready to compete
+Random StuffGuy and now im 13 and i came second in a tournament just today, im so happy!
I Could probably get a handicapt of around 25 at the moment easily, im just worried its going to take me too long to get it down
Nice! Im only just starting, but im pretty confident i can win some tournaments soon haha
AWESOME ROUND RICK AND ROB! Suggestion: body mics and these vids will be even better!
Would love to see you, Rob and Pete come and play some of the top courses over here in the North East. Formby looks a stunning course but is probably well out of my budget :(
So how do you work the shots with respect to handicap? May be a video on that?
Great looking course, Formby
people slagging rob don't have a clue. But explain to me why he shanks the ball so bad twice in a row
+Jumari Henry even pros are prone to the odd shank

The 8th hole looks amazing
Scenery was great RIck
hahaha your videos are awesome!! lol :) i wish i could play golf like you two guys!
This looks like a great course! 😃👍
Great looking course. Just a thought rick I think your still thinking about your qualifying round too much, as when you were practicing for open qualifying you were hitting them great. No doubt you will find your swing again
Great videos!

Rob "I didn't get that shot" Potter :)

Rick White there is no penalty in matchplay! he could only make him take his shot again, I think someone else needs to check the rules
Hmmm ... good point. Rules can be different for matchplay.
I think it's more an etiquette thing about who plays first irrespective of the rules.
Thanks for the comment.
great looking course, very jealous
Is it not a dividing line or a hazard line or something?
Lol great intro for this video Rick. You should do that more often 👍🏼
Stunning course, shame you let Rick get in your grid Rob, take solace in the fact he needed tricks and mind games to win. Quest for single figures will happen sooner than the Quest for the Open! Great vlog as always lads.
crackin vlog. well played rob getting closer next time defo win
beautiful views, and thought he was gonna go Rob'n and steal a win;)
I have been a member at Formby GC for almost 20 years. I knew you would run out of fairway on 8 playing from the yellows. Next time go for the 'Tiger line' cutting the left side
Rick Im pretty sure those images on the trees are to show ground staff that the tree needs maintenance or something like that, at-least that what google sais
Rob, every time you get beat just blame the poor standard of coaching you're paying for ;) Good video as always, Rick. Keep 'em coming.
Yay, ive been waiting for this video since the last video xD
Looks lovely! Great vlog! Rob needs to seriously work on his camera skills, shocking! Lol love the man tho! Come to Mill ride in Ascot! You'll love it, both of you will!

We can discuss their games all day but its up to them to get together and prove who is better.
Good job Rob, get him next time.
could be to help get a line on your ball if it goes in the trees
Keep on fighting Mr Potter!
give us more of this :D
Impressive looking golf course, you must return. Almost as good as our courses down under. (Oz) ha ha
Looks a tough course.
I can imagine when the wind is blowing hard, it could be almost unplayable with the rough, the trees, and the undulating greens.
+Mark Hedetniemi I agree mate. The par 5's into wind would be par 8's for me.
QUEST for Rob to ZOOM in on a golf shot needed me thinks lol. Awesome course though...
there's nothing wrong with playing with yourself. i find myself playing with myself all the times....on the course...of course.
The tree is the Formby golf logo. Out of bounds?
Great American accent/John McEnroe impersonation there Rick.
Where did you get the minion head cover?
Marking the out of bounds with the Formby logo. Those are my thought
There marked trees, so you don't hit near them so they can grow
Can't believe your having backdrops like that without Pete finch
The trees r for range finders
Whilst rob is on the camera I feel a little intoxicated
Why is Rob so bad at zooming in? Aside from teaching him golf teach him how to use a camera.
Famous words of Rick Shiels - "Is it not obvious it's a tree?"
Hey Rick, if Dobby is a 13, and the 7th hole is S.I. 13, why didn't he get a shot there?
presume it was to do with them only playing 11 holes
Shiels v. Crossfield with Coach Lockey on camera
Lovely
Rick and Pete (when his hand gets better) vs Mark and Matt.
Rick would beat couch lockey hands down because lockey can't use a driver to save his life. So yeah Rick vs Mark Crossfield, but Rick shiels will win because he can drive the ball 20 to 30 yards further than Mark.
Jumari Henry driving distance is irrelevant it's what you score.
+Cornwall1888 Rick is a better iron ball striker and is more consistent. They are about even with putting
I think Potter needs the next size up on those pants. The tightness is messing with his swing.. You should have gave him a couple extra strokes just for wearing them today.
no offence to anyone who uses srixon distances 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Quote of the day "Never ever ever ever leave one short!"
These course Vlogs just don't work with Rob on the camera
Playing off 13? When did mini golf start giving out handicaps?
Look out its the handicap police
#loveagoodbackdrop
That course looks tough, block beeswax please
rob's strikes sounds all chunky lol
poor robs arse collapsed up the last, next time fella !, lovely course
That sunset was awesome, camera work? awkward, may I say awful?
How did rob shank a chip out👏👏👏
He shanked it twice in consecutive shots.
Rob is a shankoholic he shank his chip out two consecutive times in a row
+Jumari Henry I know haha😂😂😂
He deffo comes across as a bit of a shanker.
+James Daly he is gonna kill someone with his shanks 😵😲
sure it means out oob.
Rob walks like he shit himself
A short putt never had a chance
It means those trees are going to be cut!
I really enjoy these videos but whenever robs on camera it gives me motion sickness......
rob loves being in the dip of doom!!!
He's not a 13 handicap, he can't even hit a fairway, 4 putts, shanks 1 like 😂
just wasn't his day pal we all have those rounds but the strokes helped him because they can make a huge difference
+thesasquatch smh
+thesasquatch bro so what if it was not his day, he should not have hooked the ball in the woods, followed by two consecutive shanked balls. Given the fact that he is a 13 handicapper
better to be to long than short rob
#mindgames don't work on rob.
1st comment
Why do you never play against mark crossfield and coach lockey, much more entertaining to watch
Mike Pardoe I'd rather watch my granny curl out a steaming turd than watch those two morons
The signs on the trees are there so dogs know where they can pee...they are banned if they pee on an unsigned tree!
Backdrops are good round here 😷
They're probably out of bounds markers
Did rick really call trousers "pants" 😐🔫
It might mean that those trees need to be treated for some sort of sickness they might have
150 bucks to play that course
#shanker😀😂
when Rob grabs his Driver I start to cringe
I duck behind the sofa
how on earth is rob off 13!!!!??
How the hell is Rick off scratch 😂
If he's a professional then I'm a fucking F1 driver..... Pro.. Shhhes
He's a page teaching pro. Not a tour pro who plays each day for 8 hours.
Have you put on a couple of kilos, Rick?
