Bernhard is such a modest and supportive man. He made his score with complete ease - never in trouble. The send off at 2025 Masters will be emotional. Great play by Rick and some superb birdie sauce putts. Terrific video.
Completely agree to everything you said. His last tournament in Germany this summer was already quite emotional. Looking forward to Augusta. Great playing Rick!
i saw him on a warmup day prior to a u.s, open. while other groups went off the 1st tee with their buddies, berhard teed off alone. just he and his caddy. i'm sure speaking german in the u.s. has something to do with this. he might be a bit if a loner. not that that is bad.
As a German I have to say that this is my most favorite video ever. What a gentleman and great ambassador for the game of golf. I was blessed to meet Bernhard twice and he’s always class.
I was driving along in a convertible one day and my phone rang. I couldn’t make out who it was but I could tell he had some sort of accent. It was Mr. Langer! 2 time Masters Champion. I had given someone that knew him a set of 100 year old wooden shafted hickory clubs to show him. He personally called to thank me and said he enjoyed playing them and these were the kind he grew up Playing with as a boy, and still had them in his garage in Germany! Omg…. What an unexpected treat and surprise to get a call directly from him. Very classy man and terrific ambassador of the game. Cheers Mr. Langer and you too Rick.
Imagine getting the chance to play with a total legend, even though he's a little past his prime, he's still a fantastic player. Bernhard must feel very lucky.
No hyped up histrionics; just great golf, amazing chat, and watching a legend of the game being so relaxed - this is in my top 3 videos of the year. Thank you!
A very 'grown up' video and a lovely watch Rick. What a humble, humerous, knowledgeable legend Bernhard is. His longevity is absolutely incredible. To still be able to hit it so well and so straight at his age is admirable. I play with a few guys a lot older than me in their late 60's and the control he has over his body and swing is incredible. *Side note - 24 holes in one!!!! 'They' say, that a lifelong golfer will get, on average, 1 in their life... so I guess thats 23 mugs like me who have to accept it's not to be (despite playing for 37 years and being a single figure handicapper 😮💨😔)...
Thank you for bringing Bernhard to us to know what he’s like such a hard worker. We all knew that but we didn’t know what a kind gentleman he really is.
This episode is absolutely fantastic. What a super star Mr langer is true gentleman didn’t realise just how many years he has been playing grew up watching him great golf Rick and video
I feel Bernhard is so humble he has no idea the true joy he has brought to golf fans over his very long and illustrious career. With his 2 Maters wins, playing in the Ryder cup 10 times and being a winning captain on American soil in 2004 not to mention breaking Hale Irwins unbreakable record of 46 champion tour wins! He has only had a 7 year itch with his putter and overcome it. Thank you Bernhard and thank you Rick and very well done in those conditions.
Admittedly I rarely comment but that was a great video. Bernhard seems a thoroughly decent bloke and appeared genuinely happy for you sinking the monster putts. Sometimes just watching good golf with good guys is all you need for a great video!
Bernhard shows the temperment of a true champion here. Calm, precise and methodical. Sometimes younger pros have a tough time walking the line without seeming arrogant and angry. Great video
What an absolute treat. Mr. Langer is such a class act. Work hard, keep yourself grounded, refine your skills over time, play within your abilities. Sounds simple, but in a world discontentment and quick fixes, it's revolutionary. Thanks Rick for using UA-cam to bring us content like this and giving us a little window into the professional world with guests like this.
What an absolute joy to see Bernard being a true gentleman, he was so good with Rick. I spoke to him very briefly at the end of his round at the Troon open in 1982 where he finished 4th. I was in my early 20’s only a few years younger than he was. He could’ve told me where to go but instead stood there for a few minutes listening to me and signed my programme. A great memory of a great and humble sportsman
Watching Bernhard's swing on the third tee is so great! I rewound and watched it multiple times to study it! Thanks for providing such great content, Rick Shiels!
What a pure class human being Mr. Langer is. He represents the core essence of our great game. He is a prime example of how you can sustain excellence through morality, hard work and dedication while still balancing his life in all the other aspects. Must say Rick this was one of your best vids. Thx bud.
Mr. Langer, please, please, please, make more youtube videos. I could listen to you talk about golf all day. And thank you for giving us your time to make this video.
Mr. Langer is such a gentleman. Such a competitor. A true champion. He is everything that is great about the game of golf. Thank you, Mr. Langer for being a wonderful example to those young golfers coming up in the game. You are a true ambassador.
I went to the Masters in 2012. We went to the practice round and I watched Mr. Langer hit the same shot out of a sand trap 30 times. He watched the ball land and watched where it rolled. He then moved over and did it all again. Proceeded to follow him for quite a while - his attention to detail and work ethic were just amazing. He is one of my favorite players.
Thank you Rick. Bernhard is one of the game's legends, and this video is a delight. One thing I really liked, which Rick mentioned at the end, is when the locals (Germans) got the word Bernhard was coming in on 18 they began to gather around!
Berhard is properly old school; just going about his quiet, understated and efficient business. You can tell he came to prominence at a time when cameras weren't relentlessly trained on him and he didn't have to come up with soundbites: he has always been within himself. Pure class. As always also class by Rick, creating a relaxed and disarming atmosphere in which great players can convey the depth of their experience.
Thank you so much Rick (and team). One of the best videos in a row of many of yours! Sehr geehrter Herr Langer, ich sage das eigentlich nie aber bei Ihnen trifft es zu - Sie sind eine Inspirationen für mich und nehmen mir die Angst vor dem Altern. DANKE!
By far one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life. I was lucky enough to meet him in St Joseph, MI. You’re very lucky to be able to share a round with him, Rick!
Fantastic episode. I saw Berhnard in a few tournaments in Europe in the 90s, what a great sportsman! And in very typical German fashion, an extreme perfectionist. Colin Montgmomerie, in his book, recalls when he played in the Ryder Cup with Bernhard, an occasion when Bernhard asked Colin: how far to the pin? Monty replied: 132 yards. Bernhard then asked: from the front or the back of your foot? Monty thought Bernhard was joking, but obviously he was not. In another situation, when Seve was the captain, the team (Monty / Langer) got stuck under a bush. Seve came to the spot and started telling Monty about a 5 by 5 inch window through the trees that they could use (the kind of shot Seve famously played on the 18th hole of the Omega Masters one year). As they were talking, Langer discreetly chipped onto the fairway...
Oh my God, I'm tingling all over. Bernhard Langer was such an icon in my youth. I just remember him absolutely knocking pins out everywhere...what a player, what a privilege for you. I'm sure you recognise that, Rick? Love it!
What a true gent! This is my fav of ur collaborations with pro’s, Bernhard is a such a great human and a legend of the game and great to get the insight of someone who has been around the game for so long and seen so much! Thanks so much for this Rick and hope to see many more vids like this
The best Golf I have seen from Rick for quite a long time. Bernhard Langer is a true legend and an ambassador of golf. Cheers for this great video . 🏌️♂️👍
What a gentleman and how straight and consistent he hits any shots. His honesty about his life the tips and his achievements was awesome. Thanks for the privilege of allowing us to watch 👍😁
What a terrific video. To overcome the yips once is an achievement, but to do it four times speaks volumes for Bernard's character and grit. The fact that it's packaged in a true gentleman just makes him the golfer's golfer. Thanks for something truly special.
In the mid-90s, when I was in my early 20s, I met Bernhard during the practice round of the Bay Hill Invitational. He was taking his approach shot, and I asked him for his autograph. He agreed, but on the condition that I finish the hole with him. We had a very casual conversation, and after he made his putt, he signed my badge. I wish him the best.
@@sandersson2813 so if an adult father grabbed an autograph from MJ or tiger ,they shouldn’t do that for there child because you think it’s weird got it , especially if they are rookies or something where it could be worth millions 🤪
That was a pleasure to watch. What an example of a true legend of the game, while remaining a real gentleman who obviously has a great desire to help other golfers improve their game. Stand up and take the plaudits,Mr Langer👏👏
What a great video , I’m 60 and have therefore watched Bernhard since I was a teenager his career consistency and longevity have been incredible . What an ambassador for the game of golf and a thoroughly decent bloke.
Don’t often comment on shielsey’s videos but can we all acknowledge how easily rick can not only get along with everyone, but also asks excellent questions? I must say it’s a super underrated part of why he always puts out good videos.
Legend is used too often these days but Bernard is an absolute legend of the game and sport. He is genuine, humble, humorous and intelligent. This is your best video this year and I hope it gets the views it deserves - great work Rick and good to see you playing well amongst esteemed company.
These videos are the holy grail of youtube golf. Thank you Rick for making these insightful videos. I also need highlight your ability to disarm, and make people comfortable around you. You really make top of the line content with the pro's, Rick Letterman.
What a gentleman and a legend, grew up watching Mr. Langer and loved his consistency and unfussy way he plays. Great chat and thanks for the great video Ric ❤
Sneaked it for a second under that TourEdge Headcover, but hes still playing a G400! Rick you should do some tests with that driver again see how it stands up!
Fantastic… what a lovely man Bernard is and great chemistry between the two of you. Bernard seems like the kind of man who doesn’t suffer fools gladly but realised early on he was playing with someone who understands the game. You were respectful and charming and on top of that you played out of your skin! Well done Rick Great watch.
I used to watch Bernhard on television as a child when it was still broadcast in Germany. Back then, I never thought I would play golf myself. A wonderful man. A scandal-free top athlete with a good sense of humor.
Rick this video was brilliant and you played great. But I just want to say how brilliant you are with your guests... Your personality just makes them at ease... And the more the video went on the more comfortable Bernhard seemed to be in your company... He opened up to you and answered all your questions and he seemed to really enjoy it. Love it 👌🏼
What a gent, gem of a man and figure for young golfers....grew up with Faldo. Langer. Monty. Lyle. Seve. Woosie, all of them and more. I was so lucky watching these greats on TV. Rick your even lucker to play with one of them! Thanks for the vid.
The longevity of this man's career is incredible. I remember being in my teens watching him play out that tree at Fulford , I'm 60 soon and he's still playing with the best . Dedication personified. 🙏
If you want to watch a golfing legend who is polite, supportive, humble and simply nice. Watch this. Compliments every shot, even bad ones. I can't imagine Langer having a bad word to say about anyone. Very enjoyable video.
A must view video for any golfer, and an instant classic for those of us that fall into the golf fanatic category. Rick, you handled the entire interaction with calm, along with the perfect level of deference when graced to play with a legend like Mr. Langer. I'll be saving this one to share with my group. Thanks.
One of your finest videos... Great to hear about the dedication and commitment required to be great. Great questions asked, and great answers by a true (and humble) legend of the game... "2 times Master's Champion picking up my divot" was one of the many highlights for me... Well done.
The best video this year so far for many reasons - mainly Bernhard Langer's gentlemen's approach to the game and @RickShielsGolf playing a -2 back nine! Well done to both - great viewing. Keep them coming Mercedes!
Thank you, Rick! I think you played so well because you had Bernhard with you. He is such a kind and positive man. He's a true legend of this game. He had a calming presence and kept rooting for you through the round. I'd love to see you honor more of the champions tour members. Cheers!
What a great video, Rick. Bernhard is a true legend, and it’s amazing how free and easy he looks swinging at his age…and a 275 driving average?!? That’s crazy! And Rick - you played brilliantly! It’s so nice to see your game continue to improve. Well done!
Langer is such a class act, both professionally and personally. I very much envy you getting a chance to play with him and talk with him, Rick. Savor these moments that you're fortunate enough to have earned...they're amazing.
Total class and a true gentleman. Great video Rick! Thanks for sharing ya time Mr Langer. I truly have enjoyed watching you over the years and into the future will continue to.
So happy to see Bernhard making an appearance on the channel. My first golf memory back in the 2000's was a tape of the 1985 British Open with him playing against Lyle, Graham, O'Connor Jr, Stewart and such. He's always been my golf idol since then despite all the amazing champions who emerged and would have been considered more suitable idols for the kid I was
Great video. Bernhard has such a positive mindset even in the midst of adversity (overcoming the yips 4 times). He was very supportive of Rick in his round. Perfect playing partner and a living legend in the game.
What a great video. Bernhardt is such an amazing guy, he’s an inspiration to this 63 year old hacker. Well done Rick, you played really well. It was lovely of you to concede Bernhardt’s last putt in front of some of his fans.
What an absolute legend. Bernhard was a constant on my TV growing up. I think there are barbers who have missed more cuts than Bernard did in his prime! A clinical golfer and a genuinely nice guy. Great guest for the channel, Rick.
Wow! What an episode. I got emotional watching this one. Thank you for sharing the wisdom from a legend. Would love to see more video of your playing with the champion tour guys.
The man has had a wonderful career and won many tournaments, just like all the great ones it will be very difficult not seeing Bernhard’s name up there in the major tournaments..he’s been a pleasure to watch for many years…👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great video. Loved Bethan’s since I was a kid. He threw me a tee after a drive at the British Open in Turnberry back in the 80’s ⛳️ Amazing person, so humble and grounded. An inspiration to any kid for sure. Keep up the great content Rick 👍🏼
One of your best videos Rick, well played. First met Bernhard as a kid getting autographs at Lytham the year Seve won, what a fantastic golfer and humble human being. Hope he goes out at the Masters in style.
My favourite golf video in many a year, enjoyed every minute. Started watching golf at 12 in 1985. Bernard always seemed a gent , was great seeing how true it is. What a swing and game at 66
What a great video. Watching two gentlemen playing great golf. And above that it's amazing to see you two playing my home course which I know so well. Rick. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me right before the round. I think I realized how excited and maybe nervous you were. Thank y'all.
Smiled through this whole episode, been a fan of Bernhard forever, great to see him on a YT episode, came across as a very modest down to earth chap. Nice to see Rick playing well too.
An absolute treat to see Bernard play 9 holes with Rick. An exemplary professional and person and my favourite golfer ever since he won the Cacharel World under 25 championship by 17 shots at Nimes in 1979
Wonderful video with a wonderful Bernhard Langer. In so many dimensions, Bernhard to me is a true idol. Level-headed, fiercely competitive, incredibly professional, hard-working, stamina, always calm, knowing that golf isn't the most important thing in the world, ethics. I am extremely careful with this word but Bernhard Langer is truly a sport legend, not just a golf legend. He will be remembered for decades to come well beyond the time when his career will eventually end. I really wished there could be a rematch.
Fantastic, pleasure of a video to watch..Rick completely at ease and playing some super stuff. Bernhard is a consumate gentleman, seemed liked he thoroughly enjoyed Rick’s company..Well played Rick..great to see you play so well
Great video. Rick played really well and scored even better and it was so interesting listening to Bernhard. What a class act he is with a club in his hand and without.
Bernhard is the absolute epitome of a sportsman, a genuine golfing legend. Really enjoyed this video.
Bernhard is such a modest and supportive man. He made his score with complete ease - never in trouble. The send off at 2025 Masters will be emotional. Great play by Rick and some superb birdie sauce putts. Terrific video.

You've been very lucky - I'd have loved to have met Bernhard - An absolute and complete class act
I was driving along in a convertible one day and my phone rang. I couldn’t make out who it was but I could tell he had some sort of accent. It was Mr. Langer! 2 time Masters Champion. I had given someone that knew him a set of 100 year old wooden shafted hickory clubs to show him. He personally called to thank me and said he enjoyed playing them and these were the kind he grew up
Playing with as a boy, and still had them in his garage in Germany! Omg…. What an unexpected treat and surprise to get a call directly from him. Very classy man and terrific ambassador of the game. Cheers Mr. Langer and you too Rick.
This is a very cool story!
Imagine getting the chance to play with a total legend, even though he's a little past his prime, he's still a fantastic player.
Bernhard must feel very lucky.
lol
😂
🤭
Booom!
No, you could see how much it meant to Bernard to just spend some time with Sir Rick and to just soak up his greatness.
What a great episode. Grown up watching Bernhard. So impressed with how much he still grinds at 67! What a legend and what a nice guy.
Class Act . From a generation of brilliant golfers . Thanks for all the memories Bernhard.
V well put.
What a true gentleman and sportsman Bernhard is. He dominated the Champions Tour for years with his consistency. Thanks for the great video.
I have always enjoyed watching Bernhard. Always a gentleman and a great example of how to hold oneself as a role model.
One of the greatest of all time. Great conversations and play!
A legend and a true german gentleman. Playing at this level at 67 is simply amazing. Thank you 😊

Great to see a legend of the game working his magic round the golf course. Bernhard played well too
Yes Bernard did?
That man is an absolute gentleman. I've personally met, shook hands and spoke to him at the Dicks Sporting Goods open. What a pleasure to speak to
I love Bernhard Langer my all time favourite player, great to see him with you Rick, but boy, well played Rick, that putter was on fire!

Langer is so humble. He is an icon! I will always remember his Masters wins but the competitive Ryder Cups are the most memorable for me! Great video.
What an absolute gentleman he is, I've always known it but seeing him with Rick, no airs or graces... what a man. 👏👏👏
He threw me a tee after a drive at the British Open in Turnberry back in the 80’s ⛳️
Amazing person, so humble and grounded.
What a swing and game at 66
Bernhard, what a gentleman. How humbling would it be to play with the man. Good to see you ENJOYING your golf Rick. Top darts.
Great vid Rick, Mr Langer plays the most stress free golf ever. Alot to learn from how he approaches the game. Zero ego, proper legend.
Truly, truly class. Great video, Rick. I'm glad you got to share this experience with Bernhard and with us.
Fantastic video. Two gentleman playing and great to see Bernard still playing well and love his sense of humour.
Thank you Rick! Bernhard is my idol!! What a great video. Two extremely pleasant people enjoying each other's company and 9 holes. THIS is golf!
Absolutely loved this video! Bernhard is the epitome of a golfing legend, thank you Rick for this one!
What an absolute gentle and humble man Bernhard is.
Well played Rick, i bet you were buzzing after that. 👏👏
What a guy Bernhard is, absolutely fantastic. But I must compliment you too Rick, such a good show of respect for him all the way around! Top notch!
Rick, you're so lucky to have played a round with a true legend of the game. Brilliant stuff.
What a Legend Bernhard is. It's amazing to see his longevity and all he's been able to do in the game. Seems like a really nice guy too.
