My theory is that Tick's powers origin is an amalgamation of a bunch of science, magic, genetic, & alien projects. That they started with a super soldier formula but it barely worked, but then different groups that got a hold of him just kept power leveling him through various extremes
They did give The Tick origin story in the comics if that helps. It's in a series called The Tick: Luny Bin. His backstory is still a mystery but I can say that his "costume" is really his skin
Here is my personal theory. The Tick is Arthur's Father. The Tick is drawn to Arthur, has a need to help Arthur and guide him into his hero journey, and feels lost when The Tick is not around Arthur.
Cool. I'm not a fan of shows that overdose on violence and language to get an R-rating, and since 'The Tick (2016)' uses such content when the story calls for it, I think I can get into this series. Plus Peter Serafinowicz's performance as the titular character is worth the price of admission alone.
Personally I hope we never find out Tick's origin. I love the idea that the Tick is this heroic kind do gooder superhero but he doesn't have a tragic backstory of someone dying and he has to now fight for justice, or an explanation for his powers, or with great power comes great blabbity bloobity. The Tick is just there. And he's there to do some good. He fights for justice and helps people not because of any other reason than its the right thing to do. We don't need to know how he got that way. He doesn't need a real origin. I also just think it would kinda ruin the charm of the character a bit if we had a definitive backstory

I'm so happy to see such a dorky hero who's only motivation is to be GOOD. There seems to be this bizarre notion that a hero being a good person makes them a Mary Sue. No. Having no flaws makes them a Mary Sue. Which the Tick definitely has flaws. He's an idiot. That's good enough without having to make him an asshole which it seems every hero needs to be these days.
here in brazil the Tick was dubbed by the same voice actor that dubbed Batman in the animated Series Marcio Seixas, just imagine the like the tick by Kevin Conroy (wich has a voice similar of the actor who plays the tick in the series)
*"They Got the mustard out"* Buffy - Once more with Feeling the musical episode, bit of trivia, during his role in the episode as Rupert Giles in the episode Anthony Stewart Head's performance got him the staring role in the even less known musical number Repo - the Genetic Opera.
A underrated film if nothing else, Head's voice is perfect for those kinds of roles as he can switch between soft melancholy & gravelly and wrathful in an instant.
I have to say, despite not having rights to Deflator Mouse and American Maid that Overkill and Ms. Lint fill the void as even more essential characters.
Miss Lint is great. Watching her cope with the ex she is sharing an apartment with was funny as hell. Overkill was obviously a Punisher parody and perfectly done.
I'm loving the series. They're gonna have a tick panel at the upcoming New York comic con that I hope to go to. Let me know if they have a Q&A if you want me to ask any particular question. I have great hope for this series too. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy, and like you said has a lot of heart.

The TICK was a member of the Flag five. The terror blew up his ship killing all the other heroes. But the TICK survived only getting brain damage... That's the origins of the TICK.
As much as I always liked Arthur more than Tick and I very much like what they did with Arthur here, I don't think it's good that this show focuses so much on him. The thing is, this show seems to be named "The Tick", but its protagonist is Arthur - his past, his struggles, his hero journey. The Tick is treated more like a supporting character. And that's not good.
I was on the fence about this show, Arthur has been a bit grating to me. I will say though after this commentary I thought about things a bit differently and perhaps I should just let myself enjoy it.
What I really find hilarious is that leading up to the...reveal I guess that The Tick isn't just a split personality of Arthur's they play all these associated clips to make it seem true to really fool the viewer. They even reference Fight Club because during those scenes they play Where Is My Mind by The Pixies, the same song from the ending of that movie...on kazoos of course. I love this show so much!
Glad to see it's good. Interesting how they re-did the origin, and introduced a couple of new villains. The fact The Terror is in it is awesome. Hope we get some more of the classic villains though. The Breadmaster was always one of my favorites.

SPOILER.... I loved how they built up the idea that the Tick was entirely in Arthur's head. Finally Arthur was even convinced he had lost his mind and invented the Tick when out of nowhere his sister starts talking to him and confirms he is real. I was worried they were going to make the Tick imaginary and therefore destroy the potential for tons of character interaction. Instead they suckered me in and reversed it.
I have heard somebody, on Geekvolution because I think they deserve the namedrop, wonder if the alien plot is a red herring and it is The Tick that is the alien. The cartoon did give us a planet of people who look like Arthur.
Warburton has said he was doing a cameo, which I hope he's Barry. He didn't debunk the theory Arthur hallucinated the Tick per se, I think Arthur is manifesting him into reality but he created him. PS) Sharp Shooter became Overkill.

I have to admit while the suits do look nice I always felt the ticks suit was meant to look cheap, I mean he is a character that is a giant with incredible strength and speed but choose his identity to be that of an insect known for being small his costume always seemed like it was made quick by him

I saw a few episodes and I do NOT like the Tick actor in this. He reminds me of that annoying overacting guy in things like the new Turtles movie, but that guy can be good at voice acting in the Lego Batman movie. So maybe if this new guy voiced a new cartoon Tick he would be ok, but I won't be watching the new show anymore because the Tick annoys me. I'd rather have the original live action or cartoon come back. You compared it to a Marvel Netflix show... you are right that it does have that vibe. That's the other reason I don't like the new Tick. The Marvel Netflix shows are the worst super hero shows I've ever seen.

Found it boring, and lacking the sense of fun that the earlier incarnations had had. If I wanted grim, I'd stick with Batman. Deadpool had more a sense of fun than this Tick does.
