Heath taught Sonoma child jazz prodigy and Grammy nominated guitarist Julian Lage. Julian Lage is the subject of Mark Becker's Academy-Award nominated documentary "Jules At Eight" which was filmed at Real Guitars in San Francisco, California. Heath is in "Jules At Eight" (jamming with Julian) and has three featured original songs entitled, "It's Muddy In The Water", "It's A Minor Thang" and "6th Street".
Julian was nominated for a 2010 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for "Sounding Point." Grammy nominated Julian Lage was named the Top Jazz Guitarist in the 2013 by the JazzTimes Expanded Critics Poll beating out such prolific guitarists as Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny and Nels Cline.
"Jules at Eight"
The film "Jules at Eight", a 24-minute short by then-fledgling documentary filmmaker Mark Becker, subsequently nominated for an Academy Award. "Jules at Eight" was produced, directed, edited and photographed by Mark Becker.
"Jules at Eight" was nationally broadcast in all of the major media markets (New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco) across the country on PBS and shown all across the country in several major film festivals as well.
"Jules at Eight" was an official selection in the 1997 Los Angeles Film Festival, an official selection in the 1997 South By Southwest Film Festival, a regional winner of the 1997 Academy Awards (Student) and a special jury prize winner of the 1997 IDA Awards Student Documentary.

What I see is a LOT of dedication and passion for music coming straight from the fatherly figure. As a music teacher, parents can go a long way when it comes to motivating their children.

There are "guitar teachers" on UA-cam who say that the idea of inborn talent is nonsense, that anyone can learn to play well if he applies himself and spends enough time in study and practice.
This may be true, in a limited sense, for a lot of people, but obviously, God made this kid to be a great guitarist. If you watch videos of Julian Lage now, you're struck by the extraordinary length of his fingers, and on this video here, you can see that at eight his fingers were already much longer than the average eight year old boy's.

ok it's a little silly to talk in hypotheticals but he would still be a great guitarist if he had short fingers
There could very well be some innate talent in the mix, but it also helped a lot that he started at five years old. Developmentally, they're sponges for new skills. He could probably master something in a month that would take a fortysomething like me a year. And even today, you can tell he is extremely passionate about guitar and still looks for new challenges. That can't hurt either.

I think it is something from Bachs Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin. I'd say somewhere in partita number 2.
I suggest giving the whole thing a listen (all the Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin). It is mindblowingly good stuff. You can find lots of different versions here on youtube, and many are very good. Try giving both vilolin and guitar versions a listen. It is as if they bring out different stuff in these works. I really like both.

You are right that it is not the Sonatas and Partitias that I suggested (even though these are fantastic!).
You are also right that it is one of the 2-part inventions. The one he plays, however, is one in a minor key (#8 is one of the major ones). The one he plays the start of at 0:12 is invention 4 (BWV 775), which originally is in D minor, but he plays it from Am in the clip.
