  • My cover of Robert Miles - A New Flower from his album 23AM. It’s really more of a mix and composition study in my own conservatory. I’ve listened to a ton of great music in my life and this is one of those pieces that still floors me. It does these visceral pulsing rhythms. It has a peculiar quality to it. It seems so structurally different than anything I’ve reverse engineered. Side note: I find I’m drawn to a lot of Italian composers and producers! #robertmiles

I feel like Robert Miles will always be known for his hit track Children (Dream Version) I feel a deep pang that this particular track will mostly be forgotten. It’s not just its composition but the way the mix was put together. It was so meticulously crafted. Find the original, this tribute doesn’t compare. I’m just auditioning some plugin demos and putting them through their paces with this.

I corresponded with RM about his track Children. He told me a lot about his equipment and process when I was getting started. He was extremely nice and said “you don’t need anything fancy, you need good ideas” (paraphrasing) which I’ve kept with me all of these years and always will. I never got the chance to talk #23AM with him. I know he mixed it in Paris at the now closed Studio Plus +. RM died in 2017 of cancer.
“Staring at her straight in the eyes
So profoundly, almost able to see, understand something invisible,
Intangible, pure, innocent or simply spontaneous.
Seeking the touch the breath and the warmth of that body with eyes half
Closed, she listened to the beat of her heart and, she smiled.”
“What goes on in the invisible is something physical...like a succession of shivers.”
