It's hard to get a job in the US too. They have jobs requiring bachelor's degrees and 2 years experience, paying $15 per hour. I'm in the food industry right now making $19.37. Why would I switch?

Good video bro, completely agree. Also how do you know the word baqwaas? 🤣

Hm, well back in my day(graduated 2013) it was nearly 700 candidates per spot in the Big Four. I am assuming that 50-1 would be Final Interview/Assessment center figures?

Would going to top unis like Cambridge or imperial for cs worth it if I don't get an apprenticeship? Planning on taking a gap year for tech next year to focus on apprenticeship applications

Going to top unis like Cambridge will definitely give you a lot of opportunities. However, it's difficult as hell to go through CS in Cambridge or any of those uni(Oxford or imperial).

From what I see currently studying at Imperial, I would say it is worth it to go university. Graduate schemes don't represent all of graduate employment. A lot of firms skip this probationary period and just hire graduates into analyst roles - these analyst roles can be in tech, trading, finance, consulting etc.
The more prestigious the firm the higher the starting salary, I have friends that will be recieving just over £10k from a summer internship at Goldman.
If you do decent in the internship they will give you an offer to return full time (to emphasise, this is NOT a graduate scheme, just a job) and some of the first year base salaries can go crazy. The final year valedictorian in our department took a graduate role at Optiver where I think he makes 225k EUR base.
      To summarise:
      - while graduate schemes may be going down, other types of graduate roles exist
      - These other types of graduate roles are also INCREDIBLY competitive so the points in this video are still valid
      - University, if you know what you're doing, can be an easy way to get into a good company if that is your goal

@@aminmohamed520I applied for maths at Cambridge but got rejected but I'm still taking STEP (entrance exam for maths) to reapply in gap year next year so we shall see

These kinds of top unis, if you can get in, blow apprenticeships out the water. I don't think apprenticeships are for people who can get in to top tier universities

My engineering graduate scheme with the civil service was great, a super flexible scheme and I got great experience. Pay was pants though and did not keep up with inflation at all, but after my scheme I bounced and easily got a higher rate tax band paying job in the private sector.
The degree apprentices alongside my scheme seemed to always be considered second class to us. Their scheme is obviously longer and it pays even worse than the grad scheme of course. My biggest gripe would be how your forced to go to a particular university that is often not well known. I went to a top 10 uni so maybe if you have more potential than low-mid tier uni's a degree apprenticeship might not be ideal. Though your employability would probably be great if you got a scheme with a great business.

i was told to apply for a graduate role at RBS, apparently recruiter was adamant that I would get the job, in finance, I said no, then she says, but this is a very sought after scheme, there are thousands applying, salary was 19 or 20k, cant remember, I got a starting salary of 27k from a normal job, and just 3 years later I was on £5k net income, graduate schemes are a scam, they want the best person but offer the worst salary, looking back I can see why the recruiter wanted me to apply, I know now I was sure to get it, but I am glad I didn't go for it, I would be stuck there for at least 3-5 years, and never be on the salary I am on now

I have a rather good experience with Graduate Schemes. I got selected for multiple of them. Sadly, I did not end up joining the one I liked the most.
