Awesome review. ERPNext is a game changer in the market especially for us developing countries in Africa. It's being embraced massively. 💯

We remove the headache when implementing the ERPNext. Then it doesn't have any negative side affect. And you can also customize as you wish in long term.

With regards to scalability, Zerodha used ERPNext and grew to be the largest discount stock broker in India. ERPNext is based on the Frappe Framework also open source. Frappe framework makes it easy to enhance the system as well as introduce new functionalities through in-house modules. ERPNext is implemented by diverse businesses like manufacturing, logistics, health, education, trading. Many have given back to the community by contributing their own code for consideration. Frappe staff curates these contributions and ensures that contributed code are correct and useful. Frappe announced that Zerodha recently invested capital into Frappe.

Most of the video was applicable to ERP systems in general, rather than ERPNext specifically, but some good points nonetheless. A lot of the Open Source vs Proprietary ERP system choice paradigm can be distilled into a single question: Do you want to fully outsource your installation/setup/maintenance/customization/support, at [almost universally] higher cost and with less flexibility (proprietary ERP), OR do you want to have a choice to do it in-house or outsource some/part/all of those things, with maximum flexibility. Open source is often lower cost overall, but not always, but it is ALWAYS more flexible. (When features and proper base design are reasonably comparable.)

These were some extremely excellent points you've made and I truly appreciate the manner in which you presented it. Subbed. I think I'm going to give it an install and poke around at it, but I am indeed concerned about the consequences of inadvertently diluting the install through internal organizational growth.

I think you missed one of the biggest selling points about ERPNext which is the low code structure, where customization requires so little coding knowledge. They even market it as Wordpress for Business software, which I think is a good point

Hi, thank you for this review. Most of the cons you talked about were not concrete, they are just very general points. Scalability, open source headache, too big company who needs custom needs. All of those points are just too general. I haven't used this software in production, but I am giving it a try. It is definetely good and so far seems to be stable. I installed it using its Docker container and was easy to install. I would really give this project a try.

Very good review, I bumped into your talks today in my pursuit of building an ERP stack and have gotten valuable insights into the ERP landscape in general. One feedback if I could respectfully give is while timezone might be a consideration in choosing ERPNext (Although I personally don't agree as it's a FOSS project) , culture however has NOTHING to do with it, not even remotely so. If possible please refrain from giving cultural backdrops on topics which are completely agnostic to it

Please make a video by explaining these videos.
If you want to use oodo or ERPNext for free than we can use right?
If we download the source code of oodo or ERPNext from github then we are the sole owner of the code?
We are having the complete leverage of modifying it and selling it to further anyone without any legal complexity?
We only have to pay the server cost and all modules like Customer,Sales,Accounting etc. come with free of cost?
And if we want any enhancements like features in the ERPNext a developer should have knowledge of Python and Javascript knowledge or any another knowledge also required?

I'm totally agree with the considerations about the time zone and culture because is a India based product, because they are very good technical consultants, but in my experience there is always time zone issues, language misunderstanding and requirement's confusions.

ERPNext is full of bugs. If it's so easy to customize, why doesn't it come with quality quote templates? They’re constantly applying fixes but introducing new bugs along the way. Our sales tax increased this year, and it was announced well in advance. Yet, the template still shows the rates from 2023.

the companies that are not a good fit are quite interesting. Super entrenched management, top-down and incredibly hierarchical, a lot of power and everything changes on the whims of management - very top down. So large that they are made up of fiefdoms and silos that cannot be reconciled. Also very proprietary and no budget for support and process improvement.
these are companies in gov't monopolies like utilities, gov't itself, monopolies or cartels, etc... business associated with oligarchs.
Companies that are a good fit with ERpnext, are very egalitarian and flat organizations. Organizations that are LEAN/TPS with reasonable slack or capacity invested in process improvement and Quality Management systems. Scrappier and Hungrier, need for enduser buy-in and back and forth between Management and Staff.
In my observation companies who think operations are maximized to the point that they never need to allocate any resource to Change of conditions are the luckiest companies - typically legal monopolies are not subject to changing conditions and can operate without repercussions to manage.
