  • In this video I talk about the 1899 “Ponderosa” cape, which was adapted from an 1899 issue of La Mode Illustree. I show the original pattern sheet and why the Wearing History version is different. I also give a watch tip for sewing, and at the end we look at the original La Mode Illustree issue this came from to see fashions that could be worn with this cape.

Many thanks to @house_of_edgertor and @thevintagetraveler, who first told me about the 1890s golf cape fad. Info on what occasions they were worn from were found on Google Books by me from free period sources.

That is so awesome that you translated the pattern to a "modern" version. Original patterns are very challenging for me, so I am extremely glad that people do modern versions. That way I am also able to sew such beatuiful garments. And the additional explanations in the videos are so helpful as I can understand them better than just written text instructions. Thank you so much ! 🙏

Fell in love with this cape, but I would be really interested in alreting it in a way that would allow to pop the arms out without losing the shape and feel of the cape. I wonder if a good way of doing this be adding overcape and leaving holes in sideseams 🤔🤔🤔
