Is more noticeable against stone-to-bronze age buildings, before improving their resiliance (architecture, if i recall). But is something like +3 for buildings, +2 or 1 for towers.
Dont know if anyone cares but if you are bored like me atm you can stream all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my gf for the last weeks =)
composite bowmen are one of my favourite units. I never build swordsmen. In original aoe, I often avoided the ballista tower upgrade, because the towers fire so much slower, so can easily be outmicroed. It's slightly less bad in DE, but still has some effect.
if you´re going to use ballista towers, you need to build several of them next to each other, so that the enemy will have a hard time dodging them. They´re good, but only in large numbers
In this case, is scythe chariot, not scythian Was battle chariots with spinning blades (in this case scythe blades, you know, the ones used to harvest cereals). They existed historically, but died out because the driver had to guide the horse directly adjacent to the enemy forces to be effective. And any guy with a spear could either thrust it between the spocks (and either block the wheel, break the wheel, or break the spear), or shut down the horses. Aaand because after stronger horses were bred, capable of carrying an armoured rider, chariots kind of died out for the sake of manuverability and speed. EDIT: corrected mistakes
And it’s helepolis, not helepios. Even though in real life the helepolis was a massive siege tower, not a bolt thrower. I think a more correct rendition of it exists in AoM.
I pretty much go with academy units, Cavalry and some artillery to damage my enemies economy. Cavalry defends the Phalanx against range or fast units and priests and maintains order for the Phalanx which obliterates pretty much everyone else including elephants
when I modded the steam DE, I made Improved Bowmen actually be a bit stronger, and Composite Bowmen mere MUCH Stronger, (More of everything, Except Speed of course), you may ask. why make improved Bowmen?, the reason, is because of how much stronger I made Composite Bowmen, I also made them require Iron Age, meaning in my game, Improved Bowmen saw more useage
It would be nice to tell us about the bonus damange a unit does to another one. I mean, we know bowmen deal bonus damange to axemen, but we dont know how much bonus damange they will do to them
Too bad Age of Empires 1 Definintve Edition had no new expansion packs unlike AOE2DE and AOE3DE, we could have seen more civilizations, units and even some reworks to the older civilizations. Upgrade Units Elite Slinger: Bronze age upgrade that slightly increases damage, health, pierce armour and range. Some civilizations gaining a faction trait that allows them to stay viable even in the Iron Age. One civilisation rework I would like to see is that for the Greek slingers have +2 extra attack damage as a reference to the famed slingers of Rhodes which were some of the most highly prized mercenaries during the ancient world. This would be great for the Greeks as they currently lack viable early and mid game range units Armoured Camlery: Iron Age upgrade to the Camel Rider. Camel Riders currently in game are useless past the bronze age, this upgrade would allow them to stay viable against Iron Age cavalry units and elephants Battle Axeman: A bronze age upgrade to the axeman that replaces the one handed stone head axe with a two handed bronze head axe. I am going to re-imagine the axeman line a high damage but low health trash infantry that ignores melee armour. The will be further upgrades for the Battle Axeman in the iron age called the Falxman which replaces the two handed axe with a Falx which was a real life weapon from antiquity, that looked like a scythe and was used by both Dacian and Thracian tribesmen which proven extremely effective against the heavy infantry of the Romans. I also think there should be an ultimate upgrade to Falxman called the Champion. Light Cavalry: A bronze age upgrade to the scout
@@chrisegreg9559 i think this is why AOE2 is more popular. Literally every unit has a purpose. Halberdiers for cavs, skirmishers for halberdiers and archers, hand cannons for foot infantry, petards for walls and buildings, etc.
I started with Age of empires 3 was the first time I saw it as a person who loves history I decided to get all three night before last for $25 on steam . Although I been struggling with a mission because it won’t let you pass a certain age and which building are the Stone Age so I spend resources on stuff I don’t need to figure out which building I need to upgrade to the next age could I get some assistance? Colonization of lonia is the mission name
AOE1 the game were you mass horse archer every game to win against every unit in a nutshell. Vs melee or horse melee units? kite all day.. vs foot archer? horse archer have better stats. Vs balista? kite/dodge even elephant archer cat beat horse archer. In AOE2 the devs were like.. wait let's not make the same mistake again. *Adds* skirmishers among toher units
Not exactly a counter if you need large numbers of a unit to work.... Tbh the only actual counters that get bonus damage are: Slingers vs archers/towers Camels vs horse Chariot vs priest In competative terms this game is extremely different compared to AoE2 and there aren't counters for things like Armoured Elephants, maybe mass siege.
Not sure there's a counter for mass heavy catapults. Massive range, 150 hp, massive attack, massive area of effect, they are affected by ballistics... lol
I feel like the developers will just make a completely new game based on this time period (like AOE2 vs 4). The balancing will be so significant that it will be a literal new game. That and AOE1 DE doesn't sell well to begin with
I think you are wrong the defense mechanism in aoe1 is balanced with troops attack and HP but we have to place our troops to protect our city from enemy troops if they comes in hordes especially defensive towers are not effective against ranged units like catapults and it's legendary upgrade so that why we need to place our troops their to defend our village from artillery otherwise defensive towers can resist against melee units if they are placed with best fortifications
I dont know why but Age 1 remain my favorite. It just has a charm to it for me. Ancient weapons in it.
It is by far and i mean by far the best AOE of all games!
Its gettin fixed!
@@Seth9809 I hope so server is pretty dead for whatever reason.
By and far the best. Sometimes I create a map with no other teams and just build a cool city
One more thing: Slinger has a damage bonus against buildings. Don't know the exact number but i'm sure it's there.
Is more noticeable against stone-to-bronze age buildings, before improving their resiliance (architecture, if i recall). But is something like +3 for buildings, +2 or 1 for towers.

Late reply but the other towers practically tickle most Iron Age units, so the Ballista Tower is the only really intimidating defense you can build

watch this to learn how to play multiplayer
Teutonic Knight is the son of the Centurion
I still make slingers in the iron age. I play as the greeks, once fully upgraded they do wonders to support my hoplites.
Scythe. Like the weapon. The Y makes the long I sound and the E is silent. Helepolis. Possibly just a spelling error.
instead of calvary you now write cavlary, not sure if it's an improvement or not 11
Dyslexia strikes again
What is pretty crazy considering in portuguese cavalry is spelled cavalaria, wich is closer to cavlary than to cavalry
Great video. This is really well done, SotL level of infovideo
Quality aoe1 content. Hell yeah
Nice guide.
One thing, though: it's not "heliòpis", it's "helépolis", from the greek helein (to take, conquer...) + pòlis (city).

What a great video you did ! Thank you bro :)
Great video, but you forgot to say that chariots have extra damage versus priest and extra conversion resistance.
Where do you find the "bonus damage" stats? Is there a site that lists all these hidden stats?
You forgot about the main advantage of the chariot and chariot archer. Priests
Chariots and chariot archers have great resistance to conversion and deal double damage to priests.
6:02 in my opinion its the opposite... Chariots counter Composit archers

The scous don't auto attack because they come set in no atatack stance, just change it.
Now since the last update scout can auto attack so now it's maybe a possibility to make them for a combat unit
Thanks for the video, it's very useful
great information. thank you.
So... Hoplites are Teutonic Knights? 11
Pretty much
Yeah Greek Hoplites move faster than foot archers.
