LARRY CARLTON w/ JOHNNY FARINA -- "SLEEP WALK"

- I filmed this at the YMCA BOULTON CENTER in Bay Shore Long Island, NY on September 20 2012. "Sleep Walk" is an instrumental steel guitar-based song written, recorded, and released in 1959 by brothers Santo & Johnny Farina.
My late wife and I were lucky enough to see Johnny Farina at the Screamin’ Festival in Calella some years ago. She loved Sleepwalk and I had it played at her funeral. The band I play for play it still.
No one can play that piece like Santo Farina, not even his own brother.
Johnny finds that offensive
Right?! I look up the live videos and not In one of them does he play on tempo
How do YOU sound on the steel guitar? 😂
Respect bro
As a family member i can tell your right now that you are blind, really really blind. He's playing that steel guitar with love he's thinking about his brother every time he plucks those strings and you can see it as clear as day when you look at him. Pay closer attention next time you want to attack an absolute legend.
They may be old, but that's what makes them true musicians
I'd like to see the profiles of those who gave this a thumbs down.
When I grow old I'll be listening to this in my rocking chair
BEYOND GREAT HERE,
Love it guys ⚡⚡
Always brilliant to listen to.
My favorite instrumental from a kid till now. 75 and still going. Thank you for this hit.
U mean, u were a kid when this music came out?
Beautiful and tasteful touches by Larry on the guitar. Thankfully, he didn't overplay on it. Very soulful.
He never does. "After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.” Chopin
Absolutely beautiful
This may surprise you but Johnny Farina didn't play steel guitar on "Sleepwalk". Santo, his brother did the steel work and Johnny played guitar. SInce Santo dropped out of the music scene, Johnny has adopted the steel role. He does it very well too . They both learned the steel guitar as kids at their fathers request, who just loved it with a passion. I think my facts are right. Just saying that's all.
Thanks. Makes sense. I was confused since I thought Santo played the steel. [I feel Santo did a better job, but Johnny does great!].
Santo played steel, and it pains me to say that Johnny is obviously trying to write his brother out of the history books. He gives misleading interviews and carefully words things to make it seem as if he were the original steel player.
Came out in 1959.We used to play it at Friday lunch dances in Jr High
Outstanding! This song has been in the soundscape of our lives for so long and it is still as fresh and soulful as ever. Johnny played beautifully and the steel sound was perfect. And as always, Larry enhanced it all the way! Really terrific and Johnny looks great!
Just exquisite - ageless, never thought the original could be improved, but Larry's guitar work is great!!
Love the finish that LARRY put on that song - that alone was worth the price of admission!
RITCHIIIIIE!!!!!
Yes! “Ritchie, they said Ritchie Bob! Not my Ritchie, not my Ritchie Bob! Not my Ritchie.”
Larry Carlton is one guy I'd love to pick with. I've found jazz by listening to his music.
I met Johnny Farina backstage at a Larry Carlton concert back around 1990-91, at The Westbury Music Fair, on Long Island, and he talked with me at length about his days with his brother Santo and sister Anna,, and he was so approachable, a wonderful man, and he was waiting as I was, for Larry to come out to talk with us, and he had a "SLEEPWALK" ALBUM, of Larry's for him to autograph. What a show it was too, Larry Carlton truly is the best overall guitar player of all time, bar none!
Escuchar a Larry Carlton es una experiencia ultraterrenal...
So nice to see Johnny and Larry together on stage,, wish they would do it more often!!! Thanks for posting this!!!
Just returned from a Larry Carlton show and this was his final encore...
A timeless piece of music played along side one of it's composers... Super !
How can you not like Sleep Walk ! Great rendition of a classic instrumental
absolutely beautiful
any audience who applauds to this song are true music lovers.
Larry has his own style of playing the guitar. People alway seem to enjoy originals more and thats a fact. Just listen the respect that Larry gave Johnny. "thats the real deal there"! at the end of the video. Farina wrote this song
another great performance from larry and his friends
This is a great song from a time where melody still counted
I often go down rabbit holes for a specific artist or band. This is like the fifth or sixth version of this song I've listened to tonight. I've heard it since I was a baby and it seemed to be my Dad's alltime favorite song. Never gets old. Thanks, Dad, for exposing me to such great music.
Me againg this song is just so dreamy, dream nusic Thank you for this music that seems like it lives , weird !!!

Johnny Farina of Santo & Johnny
Respect both!
2 great artist, would love to have been there.
can I ask and say what 2 artists would like to be there?
A wonderful classic ... : )
Johnny Farina finally learned how to play Sleepwalk. It's about time. His brother Santo played the original. They haven't spoken to each other since the 60's. The song was written by Santo, Johnny and their sister, who's name I don't remember. I am surprised Johnny was sober enough to play with Larry. Good song though.
What was the cause of the fallout? Money, I suppose?
Why did they fall out?
As far as I know Santo never wanted to go pro in music he just wanted to perform at local parties, but Johnny chnaged that. All I know is that Santo retired on the 70s and I'm not sure if the brothers are bitter towards each other or not.
Brilliant !!!
Carlton! Bloody magic! Mr 335 hisself! Reeespect!
Smooth as silk, !!!!!
Beautiful !!👍👍👏👏🌹🌹🌹❤️🇱🇷💕

They are very strict with their taping policy !!! LMFAO !!! one of the greatest songs of all time !
super cool
awesome
this one's sooo much better than the one johnny did with steve vai.
Wow.
Johnny originally played guitar on this song and his brother Santo played the steel....I got to interview Johnny years ago, when I was sent to singer Johnny Maestro’s house to interview Maestro (“Sixteen Candles,” “The Worst That Could Happen.”) We were in Maestro’s downstairs recording studio and the whole hour another guy was sitting across the room, noodling around on guitar. When we were done with the interview, Maestro asked, “Maybe you can do an interview with HIM?” Turned out to be Johnny Farina! Two legends in one basement....and yes, I did a second interview. Got some fascinating history on both guys. Learned how Dick Clark got SO rich....he used to demand the artists’ half of their songwriting royalties to appear on “American Bandstand.” So, the writer/band lost their royalties for the TV promotion....the record company made their half and Dick Clark got the other half!! The artists ended up only making money from concert appearances, which is why so many ended up broke,
muy bonita melodia de los hermanos farina como pasa el tiempo en k fecha fallecio santo farina
God damn!
❤❤❤❤
Dreamy...
What must it feel like to play the same song over and over for 60 years?
His brother played it originally.
Aleluya
Wau 😀😁😃👏👏👏👏👏
What does Johnny Farina say at 3:15? It sounds like "Oh, you playing that?" Not sure it was meant nicely. He sounded like he was surprised Carlton chose that note and wasn't crazy about it.
Gregory Larry you can see larry tuning his guitar right after that. I think johnny noticed his guitar wasn't sounding as it's supposed to.
Farina 👏👏👏👏👏
👍👍
🤘🎼👌🇵🇭
Was he saying "stop it man"?
