One of the most innovative things they did (which terribly frustrated a friend of mine) was that enemies would not spawn in the same place whenever you'd reload a save game. My friend was used to run into rooms and see where enemies where and on dying just reloading a save game and then have the pre-knowledge of where enemies would be in other games. Not so much in System Shock 2! Another thing they did was also have a limited set of resources available, so you'd really have to be careful with ammo, lock picks, upgrade points and repair kits as you couldn't apply them with impunity. I remember having to defeat three tech ninjas, which required armor penetrating rounds and I only had four of those. That was some tense game play I can tell you. Do it with a single round per ninja or back to the reload screen for another go. Little margin for error!

@@EmergencyChannel Yes it's running on the Kex Engine shell otherwise it wouldn't be possible to port to consoles easily + adding a seamless co-op system. While this is a nitpick on my part, I'm not sure if i should be happy that they are very likely going to charge full price for existing owners of SS2 for something that feels like a 50/50 job. One thing that would be a new and cool experience for me would be if I could play this on console. SS2 back in '99 was apparently on its way to Dreamcast but that got canceled. Will be interesting to see how it effects gameplay textures, they have aged pretty well as it is but will be great to see more updated cutscenes as they haven't aged so well. Shodan cutscenes especially are deserving of an upgrade. I also always have an issue with how Soldier looks in "vanilla".
Love how the "low poly characters" are just enough enhanced to improve immersion. And not replaced with models that completely change the style and take away the eeriness.
Surprisingly VERY similar to the original! I can see how this is more being focused on the coding side of things to let it run on more modern consoles, but still good to see a return of one of my favorite games. Be fun to see the new generation of streamers and more enjoy it.
It looks way worse than the original. It's stunningly bad. Shamefully bad. Everyone on here is a dev or related to a dev. This is an absolute nightmare.
I want to be honest: the first Look didn't blow my mind. Everything I've seen, you can get with a little work with Mods. -- BUT -- I appreciate the work that has gone into this Project and i will buy this Version as well. First: Because you can still play SS2 even after 20 years and the Athmo still captivates me like on the first time and Second: you simply need the support so that you can continue develop Games for a long Time and then there is still enough Room for Improvement for that SS2 Remake I expected.. and that I'm sure to love it as much as the Original.
Already pre-ordered System Shock remake and looking forward to this enhanced edition. The upscaled textures and cinematics coupled with the new weapon and enemy models really make the game's environments shine - more so than it did before, at least. So hyped!
Apart from the upscaled cinematics, I fail to identify any major visual difference between this and the original. Yes, the characters have a little more detail now but nothing significant.
It's looking great, love the new models and animations, would be nice to have new animations for weapons and new effects for explosions and such as well.
Love what Nightdive's done with the remaster so far! Looks like they gave SHODAN cat's eyes, gazing into your soul like the apex predator she is! The dedication's in the details!
I’m really excited for SS2EE. I’m very happy with how the new models look, no more rebirth is a great thing indeed. Also nuts to see how it’s planned for consoles! Glad console people get to play the greatest game ever made now.
As I look at both the classic version in the smaller window and the enhanced version on the main screen, the enhanced version looks fairly well. However I noticed a lot of that dark blue tone in the original missing a bit in the enhanced version. I hope that this might be inspected further since it is still in a work in progress. Anyways thanks again Nightdive!
I wonder if this is a simple enough engine, and graphics (even upgraded) to run smoothly on the Quest 2 for VR? Sadly, I tend to get sick any time I have to play something and move through an environment smoothly... but the warping around option does seem to work.
I like this remaster but my god I would dream to see a remake of this one with the art direction used in their remake of the 1st game that just came out !
Not saying it's a sure thing, but there are a fair number of assets that look very shock 2; there's the desks, the research chemical containers, the cameras make the alert noises, the loader bots... All in all, I think that a remake for 2 would be an awful lot faster to bring out, with the ground-work done. Fingers crossed enough people buy the current remake for them to think it's worth their while.
Thank you so much for making this remake! The remake is the best games that I've played all year and it comes at a difficult time in my life. Thank you so much for doing this!
This looks like a high-res mod, BUT seeing what you did with with SS1 (both EE and remake) I can't wait for the final product (and possible remake). Go Night Dive!

finally! I wonder if you guys will change the ending cinematic too. maybe make it more in line with the original vision rather than the slightly comedic ending we got
Asking the right questions, I guess I'd be happy enough if at least the Shodan face warping didn't look like a last minute photoshop, the "nah" part is probably too iconic at this point for them to change it

@@EmergencyChannel Yes it's running on the Kex Engine shell otherwise it wouldn't be possible to port to consoles easily + adding a seamless co-op system. What I meant is that the enhancements developed in-house other than obvious engine change are quite minimal while most of the heavy lifting are actually done by mods (which aren't enabled in the trailer; you can check PC Gamer article's screenshots to compare)
These mods are:
Vurt's Space Textures, Flora, Hi-res Water, Organics/Goo
ACC's Four Hundred (400) Hi-res Terrain Textures
Eldron's Psi Amp
Olfred's Fixed Objects
Grosnus' Hi-Res Spinning Marine/Navy/OSA logos
SCP
SHTUP
ZylonBane's New Quest Notifier
Vaxquis Vintage Song Remake v1.0 Mod
Mercurius' Tacticool Weapon Replacements
So yeah more than 50% of enhancement mod covered by freely available community mods. The Nightdive side of the enhancements are only:
New NPC/Enemy models, some weapon models (mods are also used for those)
Remade FMVs (I'm curious if they will change the ending)
UI/Menus probably updated
New co-op, VR.
While this is a nitpick on my part, I'm not sure if i should be happy that they are very likely going to charge full price for existing owners of SS2 for something that feels like a 50/50 job. Whereas their Quake, Turok, Doom 64, and Powerslave remasters have been excellent efforts top to bottom. But they're slowly starting to falter with shoddy remasters like Blade Runner, Blood Fresh Supply (Which was unfinished thanks to Atari).
@@arhum1224 notice you haven't brought up a single reason this won't be good aside from 'mods exist' which, duh, no shit. it's about ease of access and having a higher fidelity version of the game that people can purchase that doesn't need a trillion mods on top of it.
You do get the game for free if you purchase system shock remake so I’m not complaining
this game needs a dead space quality remake
One thing that would be a new and cool experience for me would be if I could play this on console. SS2 back in '99 was apparently on its way to Dreamcast but that got canceled. It'd be fun to play this at 4K on my PS5. Make it so?
EDIT: Looked at PC gamer article and, sweet! it is coming to console!
I finished this game long time ago and to my delight I remember nothing except that gravity portal gun thing. Cant wait to play this again
When all of this is finished, we NEEEED a System Shock 3.
If they got awkward Dark Engine running on Kex correctly, probably Thief 1 would be next
I wonder if it’s based on the NewDark fork
They partially own the System Shock IP, Thief is owned by Embracer (used to be Square Enix). Embracer would have to greenlight it.
Mulitplayer Co-op bring so much good memories ;) I'm Glad it's gonna be added and hopefully it will be less painful to connect ;)
Any news about VR-Mode?
Wait, next generations consoles? I love you guys
Looks great! Please include native gamepad support on PC! Also, if we can finally use ReShade depth buffer effects with a weapon drawn that would be awesome!
You can get quite good Gamepad gameplay using Steam Input. It's not perfect and the interface doesn't have controller icons etc, but it's overall a good experience, as much as it can be for a mouse driven game.
Will be interesting to see how it effects gameplay textures, they have aged pretty well as it is but will be great to see more updated cutscenes as they haven't aged so well. Shodan cutscenes especially are deserving of an upgrade. I also always have an issue with how Soldier looks in "vanilla".
wow, they packed the game with some mods and gonna sell it now, we live in amazing times
Please remake SS2 like 1, it was mind-blowing.
Yes!!! After that Thief 1&2 hopefully comes next!
Hoping the end result details the Many's worm infestation on the floor, walls, and ceiling. Looks really good so far!
@@melcroseWhat makes it look "stunningly bad"?
@@melcroseelaborate
@@melcrose What are you even talking about?
Now let's see Thief 1-3 remastered.
Awesome! Looking forward to hearing about the new upgrades and features, as I have only played the vanilla steam version
It's a work in progress, LGTM. I'm just happy that someone is working on this legendary game.
That's exactly what I'm thinking
i agree, apart from the two things mentioned it looks exactly like the OG SS2 . Modded ss2 looks way better than this. Needs more work
Love it! Great job, Nightdive!
This is...the greatest game...ever made.
It's looking great, love the new models and animations, would be nice to have new animations for weapons and new effects for explosions and such as well.
Night Dive just can't stop winning.
I still have nightmares of my first playthrough. OMG The atmosphere.
Can't wait to play this coop again.
Looking gorgeous so far guys. I'm really excited to see how this turns out, best of luck!
Hope we will see some VR gameplay too in the near future. SS2 VR would be a dream come true. Right after Thief 2 The Metal Age VR. ;)
I really hope you all give System Shock 2 the remake treatment it deserves, co-op and all.
If I had to give one criticism it's that I don't like Shodan's eyes looking more lifelike at the end
I agree
I hope they increased the playability (for example melee weapon combat). I think it was his major defect when it came out.
Very excited for VR support. Being able (kindof) exist in the Von Braun is so horrific and exciting
Ah, good to see a sign of life from this project. :)
One of my favorite games of all time!
Oh heck yeah man, I’m all over this! I’m definitely gonna get this when it comes out and relive some old memories!
Love what Nightdive's done with the remaster so far! Looks like they gave SHODAN cat's eyes, gazing into your soul like the apex predator she is! The dedication's in the details!
Night Dive, please Remaster the original Thief games when you all have the time, please.
Thanks, Nightdive, and thanks Atari for making more opportunities for Nightdive
I’m really excited for SS2EE. I’m very happy with how the new models look, no more rebirth is a great thing indeed. Also nuts to see how it’s planned for consoles! Glad console people get to play the greatest game ever made now.
Saw the notification and just stopped what I was doing to watch it, I've never been more excited for a game preview. 😂
One of the big master pieces of video games. Thanks for bringing it to modern systems while keeping the original experience intact!
Thank you so much for making this remake! The remake is the best games that I've played all year and it comes at a difficult time in my life. Thank you so much for doing this!
So far SS2 is the only game that shocked and surprised me. Still the best game I have ever played.
This looks like a high-res mod, BUT seeing what you did with with SS1 (both EE and remake) I can't wait for the final product (and possible remake). Go Night Dive!
Where's the Enhanced portion of it?
This looks worse than the modded version I'm running currently.
the system shock remake has become one of my favorite video games ever, i cant wait for this remaster of the sequel to come out and experience that too!
finally! I wonder if you guys will change the ending cinematic too. maybe make it more in line with the original vision rather than the slightly comedic ending we got
Asking the right questions, I guess I'd be happy enough if at least the Shodan face warping didn't look like a last minute photoshop, the "nah" part is probably too iconic at this point for them to change it
Nah.
Nah.
Gaming greatest ending!
