In this video, I compare Final Cut Pro X 10.4.8 vs 10.4.9 using the 2020 5K imac with 10-Core i9 5.0Ghz CPU and AMD 5700XT 16GB testing out HEVC 10-bit HDR video editing and rendering as well as RED 4K and 8K .R3D RAW using the new Metal GPU decoding which really helps. I also attempt to playback Canon Cinema raw 4K and 8K footage from the C200 and EOS R5.
Right now we are waiting for Canon RAW Plugin 2.0 for Final Cut Pro X as its prerelease and the current version available is 1.5 on Canon site. I will add a RAW Plugin 2 download link as soon as I find it. In my next one I will take a look at 10th gen 2020 imac hevc 10-bit 4:2:2 decoding for Clog C-log and HDR video editing.

Apple’s probably saving a major update for the upcoming Macs with Apple silicon. That’s probably the best way for them to convince people to transition away from Intel based macs.
FCP X is already native for Intel and apple silicon.
I would agree that al the performance people are waiting for won't likely arrive until Apple Silicon. It's hard to say but don't hold year breath until then.

FCPX 10.4.9 crashed stopping me even loading it - cormels plug-ins but these have always been fine before.
What plugins are those?
@@creativeorstrange Corermelt Lock and Load as well as other core melt plugins. Had to go back on time machine as well as library history to get out of it.

Canon RAW Plugin 2.0 for Final Cut Pro X is available now from Canon's website. Can be downloaded from Software in the Support Section of any camera model capable of recording in raw.
Got the update last night I gotta say it feels faster across the board. Thankfully I'm shooting with Sony too :)

At 0:43 and 7:35 doesn't we read "NEW FCPX 10.4.9" instead "OLD FCPX 10.4.0"? And isn't the text inverted? At left, we read in the screenshot on menu bar "CPU 100% GPU 34%" and in the text below "12% CPU, 98% GPU". But these values are displayed on the right menu bar screenshot.
How did you get a CPU reading in your menu bar?
10.4.9 is now better at playing back Insta 360 One R 5.7k 360 footage, a big improvement. Much smoother

No mention of the new ISO and color temp settings now available for ProRes RAW? This is huge in my opinion.
Any chance you can do a forthcoming test in Resolve using 5.9k Canon raw light footage from the Canon c500 Mark ii? My shipment has been delayed and I would love to know how this raw footage from this camera performs. Great video - It’s very disheartening to hear about the issues surrounding the lack of a compatible Canon raw light plugin. I really hope we don’t have to wait too long.

Does the Pro Video Formats 2.1.2 system update from Apple fix any of the problems you mentioned?
Are you exporting your HDR video as H.265? I export HDR in ProRes with Resolve and it’s not much different than exporting Rec709.
But then the file is huge to upload. We’re doing h.265
Max Yuryev it would probably be faster to output ProRes from FCPX and use Resolve to convert that to H.265.
I just uploaded a 35 GB ProRes 4444 video in around 25 min on a good fiber connection here in Spokane.
Mark Orusa your right I think that’s the best route right now. I wish we could get fiber. Both my home and office isn’t illegible and upload speeds suck.

some unrelated question, i got the imac 27 2020 and it has catalina installed. is there a way to change it to mojave? i read somewhere that the 16inch and Imac that were shipped with Catalina can't be downgraded.
When do you clear up that this iMac is also not made for R5 Footage because it doesn't have the Gen11 integrated GPU.
I’m getting ready to make my order from your links but I’m still unsure if the i9 is worth it over the i7. Mostly used for video and photo editing from my Sony A7 R3 and upcoming Sony A7S3.

I am starting to believe that the people at Apple do not understand the importance of FCP and any day they will do an Aperture and tell people to move to Davinci. And then the sales of their computers will come crashing and they will not know why. I hope I am wrong, but it has been more than 2 years since the last major update to Final Cut, and they no longer are at the top of the game in terms of performance.
Looked up the price.... not worth unfortunately. You can build a ryzen system that would destroy this imac for the same price.
Sure, if you use Resolve or Premier. But if you use FCPX, pretty sure that cheap Ryzen isn't going to be doing any destroying anytime soon!
