    @HalutioN There is a better way of clearing a whole matrix. If you click just under where it says Port destinations in the box above USB Device Jack / Port 1 it will select everything and click again to clear it all.

      Hey, how about updating your software so that we don't need to read a pinned post on a youtube channel to find the functions we need? I suspect you'd sell more hardware if the config apps weren't some of the most opaque I've ever seen. If I sound snarky, it's because I could have used this "tip" the last few years. The hardware has such promise and yet doing anything non-trivial ends up being mystifying, even for advanced MIDI user, programmer types. Thanks for understanding our frustration.

      @@iConnectivitySupport I just read on your website that non-powered hubs can work too if none of the USB devices are powered by USB? Will that work fine or is powered still recommended?

      @@AdamsOlympia Technically it should still work if the devices have their own power sources and are not drawing power from the host port.

      I guess the MPC might be easier to work with as it has more connectivity, which means your icm4+ will not be as heavily used. Correct?

    Wow - the good thing first: this was the first time I got a fundamental understanding of the beast! Thanks a lot for that. I had a more or less trial and error factory setting which did the job so far until I wanted to add a drum beside my sythesizers. Looking at you I became adventurous and wiped out everything I considered useless - with the result that my synthesizers didn't talk to me anymore :D . Thanks god I had a backup of my former preset ;-) - all in all it ended up in a upgrade of the app + firmware (v4.2.7) : with the factory settings my drum talks to me but not my synths :D. Long story short: with the knowledge you provided I hope I will be able to figure out the differences between my old world and the upgrade of today!!

    I am happy for the opportunity to make your day - and thanks for showing your setup, always helps to see what others are doing. OK, are you ready? Go into the config app Port Routing tab...(I found this by accident one day)...select a port from the Port list on the left, then...wait for it...click in the Port Routes (Destinations) pane on the right, hold down the mouse button and just start dragging the cursor around.................you're welcome!! Sorry to be so pseudo-dramatic, but that was the eff-ing coolest thing I learned in my studio all month, the month I learned that! I appreciate your videos and have started looking forward to them. iConnect really needs to take some advice from the line of AJA video routers. They're intuitive and easy to setup, manage and use. When the setup and interface is less than intuitive it becomes another THING to do and fixate on instead on making music.

    Thank you for the good Video Tutorial of this complicated Iconnectivity Setup-tool. Unfortunately I dont have an octatrack yet, only Rytm and A4 and some other Synths. As DAW I use ableton live and I noticed that I cant record MIDI notes that I play with my midi-keyboard live in the Track. This is the same when I try it with another Synth, the Ipda etc. Do you think this is a Routing Problem with Iconnectivity, or is the Problem that I dont connect MIDI from the MIDI4+ to my Audio-Interface?

    I am wondering if I could connect a digital keyboard that only has an USB B-style (midi output) port to this device and then have it simultaneously be able to send out 5 pin midi (to hardware synths) and then also be able to send a USB A-style (midi output) port to my laptops USB A-port for DAW interaction? I have a UAD Apollo as my main recording interface so I'm ideally wanting to have the iconnectivity MIDI 4+ interface in standalone mode so that I don't have to set it as my main recording interface in my DAW thus granting me the possibility to be able to connect to the UAD Apollo as my only input/output for recording. But, I do want to have the midi input from my Yamaha P125 coming in for producing/writing.

    Thanks for the great insight! Got a couple of questions...
    1) will it make a real difference if for example you decided to have the OT connected to the front Midi in/out ports? Or on the first couple of the back ports? Instead of having Ot to midi out 2 and in on the 3rd midi pair? In any case, is it a matter or personal preference which ports to use for what or there’s more into it?
    2) more specific question: Is it possible for ICM to do any type of MIDI events processing? Like for instance, whenever it receives a NoteOn , to append a certain CC message? I read that this sort of thing is required if you want to trigger Slices on the OT using a keyboard.
    Thank you and forgive my wordy comment :)

    Great tutorial.
    I am really interested in this device, but there is one question that remains for my setup.
    I send information from a Beatstep pro sequencer to a little bits synth module through midi. The little bits (an analog toy syth) is not capable of filtering the info, it just plays all midi channels together. Now my sequencers midi out has just 1 port so I cannot filter it in the Beatstep.
    Now I got tipped that the Iconnect midi4+ makesit possible to filter all midi info except 1 channel (e.g. channel 1) for a chosen midi port. I couldn't google any info that backs that up for 100%.
    Have you ever tested that ?

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  5 років тому

      Hey! For that you'd need a 4+ because it has a USB-host functionality. But if that's the only thing you need it for, that might be a bit overkill. There are dedicated usb-din interfaces for less money.

      I mean if you want to go through a computer that you just connect the keyboard to the computer and use any USB-DIN converter, or an interface with DIN out. But if you're looking to use it standalone, you need a device that would work as a USB-MIDI host. The most well-known ones are Kentons but a cheaper Miditech might also do the trick. But please do some more research before buying, as I have never tried these. And and also, very importantly a USB device that you plug in them needs to be class-compliant, that is not require specific drivers.

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  7 років тому +2

      I think I mention that in the video, that it is not the cleanest setup, as it's been evolving for over a year. So, the only reason is that initially the setup was slightly different and, as I was making changes, I'd make small incremental changes and plug the cables into the available slot rather that tear the thing down and start from scratch.

    Hi I’m looking into these. how are you connecting your rytm, analogue4 and moog into this ? I don’t see them in the diagrams but you do mention them. Do you sequence all your synths with octatrack ? What’s your clock source ? Thanks

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  5 років тому

      So, in this setup all machines that have midi thru are connected via thru. That is: OT => RYTM => A4 => Moog => ICM4+. The OT is my main sequencer but the A4 and RYTM use their built-in sequencers. The clock source varies. It usually is the OT, but in later iterations of this setup it could have been either the OT, Ableton or a Boss RC-202 Looper. Thanks for watching!

    Hello,I am hooking up my electribe2 via midi in from my OTMKII midi out. (both set to channel 12) My desire is to sequence the electribe sound on the OT without it playing the sequence on the Electribe. As it stands now when i push play on OT it starts the sequencer on the electribe. is there a way to just play the "EP Rhodes voice" from electribe on selected triggers/steps in the OT? i am doing that on channel 10 with my Roland System 1. (though that does not have a sequencer). I am a midi noob and looking for some advise.

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  6 років тому

      So let me get this straight: you want to sequence the E2 from the OT? A totally doable and -- in my opinion -- preferable option as the OT sequencer is far superior. The E2 is set up that each track is hardwired to a midi channel (track one = channel 1, track 2 = channel 2 etc.) So if you want to sequence your Rhodes on track one select a midi track on the OT and assign channel one to it. Keep in mind that if you're sequencing other gear on other MIDI channels, you'll have to either filter them out using the iConnect Midi or just make them empty / silent on the E2. Hope this answers the question.

    • @supright44
      @supright44 6 років тому

      thank you for your response. trying to get everything straight from your response. when you say track 1 hardwired to midi channel 1 you mean the actual first pad? as for the Rhodes i was speaking of the sound / voice patch on the E2 not a phsyical Rhodes unit itself. i am trying to play that sound off the E2 on the OT using the OT sequencer.

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  6 років тому

      I forgot what tracks are called on the E2: Parts maybe? But yes, by track I mean the first pad: each pad corresponds to a synth "track" where you can load a different sound or a synth. So if you load up a PCM "rhodes" sound onto pad one, you can sequence it from the OT by putting a sequence onto an OT midi track which sends MIDI on track 1.

    • @supright44
      @supright44 6 років тому

      perfect thank you. so if i have midi track on OT set to 12 i will need to load up a pcm "rhodes" on to pad 12 and then have midi channel in global settings on 12 as well. thanks so much HalutionN

      I only have MIDI 4+ and only use the MIDI functionality. It makes sense, though, because the annual os update policy is really hurting the musicians who invested themselves into Apple. It's enough to check the iPad Musician FB group and just see all the questions "I'm using Audiobus, is it safe to update now?"

Every time I connected the cable to the ipad Ableton would receive a loud buzzing sound. iConnectivity explained they could not guarantee it would work with iOS. They recommend I move to windows 10 as a solution. WTF! Why market the stuff as compatible if it isn't?

      Great question and sorry for a late reply. The main reason is that I also use overbridge on my Elektron boxes, so I don't want to put too many USB cables. Once I run out of DIN inputs / outputs on my ICM4+, I'll probably switch to the USB cable.

      HalutioN thank you for the answer. This bring me to another question. Do you use the Elektron usb hub? And how manny tracks are possible via overbridge.
      By the way: thank you for a lot of good tips and tutorials. It helps me by my transition to Rytm and Octatrack.

      I have never pulled the trigger on the Overhub, but I eventually will. Probably once I get an updated MacBook. I could stream 6 out of 8 tracks originally but now it's bottlenecked at 4 tracks from the RYTM for some reason. Will have to look into it.

      Yes, that's the thing. You just configure it and it works without a need for a computer.

    This is exactly what I’m looking for, but that design interface is HORRIBLE! I use a similar GUI routing interface for routing video components at work called the AJA KUMO. The web browser based interface is two rows of 16 sources on top and 16 destinations on the bottom. I can rename them to what they actually are and color code them. It’s like a virtual patch bay-which this should be. When I want to route, I select a destination first and then a source. DONE!
    They really should keep engineers the hell away from the interface design phase of a product. Zero imagination.

      Yeah, it's a handful. I always need to force myself to dive into its setup when I have to change something. Still, no other equally capable midi hub on the market as of 2020, so we'll have to make do. Thanks for watching!
