Thanks for the video. I just removed my 20 year old Whirlpool too and bought and installed a new stainless Whirlpool. Only issue I had, apparently the builder installed the dishwasher, then dropped in the counter top. I had a hell of a time trying to pull out the old unit, turns out three screws went thru the plywood under the tile countertop and into the insulation on the old unit. The insulation would bind up as I tried to pull it forward. After an hour, yes an hour, I used a LONG screwdriver like a shoehorn and got it out. Your video was awesome, I have never done anything like this and did it. I am a visual learner and hands on, I am so blown away that I installed this, it feels like I just won a fight. LOL. Let's see, started at 1300 (1pm) and just finished the test cycle for leaks at a few minutes before 2000 (8pm) LOL. Slow and steady. 7 hours. Side note for all beginners like me, buy a Dremel Tool, the cut off wheels are LIFE SAVERS! Take care and thanks.
Working on a 2013 model, it's nearly the same as your 90s one! I had to replace a part and needed to pull the washer out and get under it to replace the part, this video helped me out a lot! Thank you!!
Thank you very much for this video! I had a dishwasher in my home that was at an angle so I decided to watch this video to see how one would be properly installed. You were very informative and helped my realise that the upper brackets were not screwed on and the levelling feet on the bottom were not being utilised whatsoever. Because of you, I now have a properly functioning dishwasher, which is honestly all I could ask for. One caveat however, I felt you could have really let people know more about how important the ground wire is.
Great video! Very clean instructions with supporting visuals. Had a difficult time finding a descriptive video that features an older dishwasher. This did the trick!
Great video! Exactly what I needed. Floor guy is coming in the morning. Now it's something he doesn't have to do, I thought it would be more complicated . I now have the skill to install new dishwasher in the future. This video just saved me money!
Very helpful and clear. I was able to remove our outgoing dishwasher without problems. No water from the shut-off supply line, but a lot came out of the drain line. Part about the power cable helped the most.
Don't save the caps get new ones and they're called wirenuts. The reason is over the years the wire heats up expands then contracts and old wirenuts don't give the same tension strength needed to encompass the splice as a new one. And remember to really tighten the cap (wirenut) when you replace it. Great video thanks.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your video is amazing and super helpful/informative. We're a young couple learning how to do all of these handy/around the house improvements on our own. You just about saved our lives after turning off the circuit breaker labelled "dishwasher" proved to not have turned off the power completely. By using a current detector like you suggested we found that the wire was still live. Thank you again for taking the time to make these videos.
Thanks! You made it painless and easy to remove my old dishwasher, super appreciated. Now I just need to figure out how to prep these wires for a couple days so I can turn the breaker back on while I wait for the delivery of my new unit. Turns out my breaker is also the same one that powers my refrigerator, UGH, didn't realize it until after I sold the old dishwasher unit.
I agree with many of the comments below. You have an awesome gift of explaining and simplifying without underestimating the precautions involved. Your visuals are a tremendous help, JOB WELL DONE!!
Good explanation. Watched this video and did a uninstall myself just in 30 minutes. I have no previous experience in doing things like that, so I would give total credit to you my friend.
Thank you Thank you I watched Both of your Videos and successfully removed and installed a new dishwasher, All by my self Feeling pretty Good right now.
TIP: We could not get to unscrew rusted bolt from copper pipe from underneath the dishwasher. It was hard to reach as well. We instead unscrewed other end of copper pipe from the cabinet under the sink, and then pulled out dishwasher.
Great video - step by step explanation. So easy to follow. Thank you for making the video - helped us girls remove the dishwasher before the guys showed up.!
I figured it would be pretty easy to do, but thanks so much for your video. Really appreciate it and you were very thorough. Now, let's just hope it's easy when I do it on Sunday!
Many thanks to you. Even though the specific connections on my dishwasher were rather different from yours the video was very helpful as a general outline on what basic tasks needed to be done in what order, and how to do them SAFELY.
Tip: Disconnect the water supply and drain hose from under the sink. Pull out the dishwasher while carefully guiding the two hoses through the cabinetry. Tilt the dishwasher onto it's side, and remove the two hoses. Install onto the new dishwasher and reverse the procedure. Save yourself a lot of hassle trying to work in limited space. You would (should) never catch a professional trying to work in that way.
Thanks for sharing this video! The dishwasher you removed is the exact same one we are about to take out - an 18 year old GE, so this was especially helpful. Technically ours isn't dead yet but somebody gave us a free newer one, so we took it! (too bad it was filthier than sin, but I cleaned all the junk (including hair!) out of it)
Hey thanks for making this video. I'm replacing mine tomorrow and needed some instructions. Thanks, great video. P.s., you forgot to wear your gloves lol.
so what do i do if i want to take out the dishwasher but i dont want to replace it? how would i cap the water off? i have tried googling and youtubing but no one seems to be removing a broken dishwasher without installing a new one/..?
I thought your instructions were very informative. My husband has early onset Alzheimer's, so I can no longer rely on him to do the work, or even offer advice. I have Parkinson's, but think I will actually be able to handle this project now, with your good advice. The only comment I would make is that maybe the lighting could have been a bit brighter in your video. Thanks for the help!
Yep, old dishwasher like mine! I am waiting on buying new right now, but just want to remove the old one so I can check the wall they had busted up when they installed it (I had to seal the large hole in the wall they left)😟
Ok I have a question...disconnected the wiring to the plug however, there were two gray connections and a green ground. The dishwasher part had a black, white and green wire. Does it matter which gray wire (plug side) the white and black wires are attached to from the new dishwasher? My daughter and I are doing this and I wasn't watching when she disconnected the wires or I would have marked them.
Even though the power is off, you should always disconnect the hot (black ) wire first, then the white, then the ground. When hooking up the wires you should hook up the ground first, then the white and last the black (hot)
In this set up, is there a way to shut off dishwasher's water supply without shutting off hot water from the sink? I want to remove my dishwasher for a few days. Thanks!
Important safety note for anyone watching this... using a current detector is not a very reliable method for verifying that the dishwasher is disconnected from a power source. Current only flows if there is something using power. Modern devices might always have a trickle of current flowing at any given moment because of electronics that are always on, but an old analog dishwasher will likely not have current flow when it's off, even if the circuit is still live. After turning off the breaker (or pulling the fuse), I would start with a low-tech verification by just trying to turn on the washer to prove it doesn't respond. Then... still assume the circuit is live and carefully open the access port to the electrical connect, carefully remove the wirenuts (again, assume you somehow fooled yourself and the circuit is in fact still live), and then test with a voltage meter, then connect the voltage meter to some other known live outlet to prove the meter really works.) I realize this is a pain, but it could save your life given the fact you will likely be laying an in awkward position if you were to get shocked, unable to break yourself free.
Thanks for the vedio. I live in a 2002 champion modle mobile home, and would like to know where the dishwasher wiers connected to? is it connected to the fuse box? I try to track the wier down under the sink, but it just runs under the cabinet's floor, and keep going somewhere there that I stop digging going further. Thank you.
@mrplow79 Dishwashers use about a gallon and a half of water per load. Now think about how quickly you can fill a gallon at the sink faucet. Now think about how long the faucet's on while washing by hand. That's what's wrong with it.
I wished all UA-cam DIY videos were this short, sweet, and descriptive. Thanks!
Luis Rosales Exactly! He didn’t add any fluff. Just kept it relevant.

Nice job. Clear presentation of all aspects of disconnecting required by the folks who will be removing my old machine before a kitchen demo project.
I literally just disconnected my parents dishwasher all by myself from watching this video! very helpful!
David Fraley same shit...first time was a success 💪🏼
Working on a 2013 model, it's nearly the same as your 90s one! I had to replace a part and needed to pull the washer out and get under it to replace the part, this video helped me out a lot! Thank you!!
You enabled me to successfully disconnect my dishwasher! Thank you!!!

This is absolutely excellent. You have a real gift for explaining.

I knew beforehand that it should be pretty easy. After watching this, I removed the old dishwasher in less than 30 minutes.
Awesome! Thx for watching!
Wow, a little tedious for a 61 year young lady, but I did it! Thanks to your great video - you're awesome!!
Very helpful and clear. I was able to remove our outgoing dishwasher without problems. No water from the shut-off supply line, but a lot came out of the drain line. Part about the power cable helped the most.
Thanks for the video. Big help. Never done this before. Saved $120 for removal and install of new unit.
Very nice demo. Saved myself $150. Thanx buddy!

George Nixon yup and trades people call them marrettes
@@@SherlocckHolmez wha!? isnt that like calling a vacuum cleaner a 'hoover' ? ;)
Thanks for the video. I am a single mom and felt very empowered being able to do this on my own.

very helpful.... I just removed dishwasher after seeing this video. thank you very much!!

Just wanted to say thank you for this. Got my dishwasher out in 21 minutes start to finish.
Thank you! We were able to successfully uninstall our dishwasher and hook up our new one because of your videos. :)
Thanks for this video! I love the little ones saying "Daddy, Daddy" in the background. So cute! Great job!
Just wanted to make sure it was as straight forward as it seemed thanks for the vid!
I agree with many of the comments below. You have an awesome gift of explaining and simplifying without underestimating the precautions involved. Your visuals are a tremendous help, JOB WELL DONE!!
Great video with well detailed instructions. Thanks for posting.
Awesome video! We used it today to remove an old dishwasher and install a new one!
Thanks for the help! Would have struggled much longer without this video. Cheers.
Great video. This is on my agenda today. Looks straight forward. Thank you for making the video.
THANK YOU!! Watching this video helped make quick work out of removing my old dishwasher! Easy to follow instructions, thanks!
Just saved me a 150$. Thanks a lot man.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us in an illustrative and easy to follow way. Appreciate it!
Plenty of good advice here. Thanks for putting up this 'how to video'.
Thank you, just removed mine dishwasher and I have pretty much the exact GE model. Done in 20 minutes.
Thanks! I'd had a replacement sitting around the house for awhile, but your video gave me the info and confidence to do this.
Thanks for posting this video. I'm about to start taking my dishwasher out since we are moving. Thanks again
Don't want to spend the money to remove and install a new one. You make it look pretty simply, thanks
Try it but be careful. Thx for watching.
TIP: We could not get to unscrew rusted bolt from copper pipe from underneath the dishwasher. It was hard to reach as well. We instead unscrewed other end of copper pipe from the cabinet under the sink, and then pulled out dishwasher.
Excellent step by step directions and videography. Thank you, sir.
Great video - step by step explanation. So easy to follow. Thank you for making the video - helped us girls remove the dishwasher before the guys showed up.!
Thank you for this video! Now I’ve got confidence going into this dishwasher removal.
Great video it helped me and son install our new Kenmore Dishwasher.
Awesome, Thanks for the video. Nice to review when doing something that is not done that frequently. Saves a lot of headaches. Much appreciated.
Great video... Definitely helping me out on removing an old dishwasher.
Big help thank you. I have a super old dishwasher and was wondering how to remove that copper water supply. Thanks again!
Thanks. Great video complemented with your precise explanations covering all important aspects of the job.
thank you for the video! I'm gonna try this in a few weeks when I get my machine delivered.
You should also NEVER EVER install new hardware on new appliances, itll avoid the warranty
Thanks for sharing this video! The dishwasher you removed is the exact same one we are about to take out - an 18 year old GE, so this was especially helpful. Technically ours isn't dead yet but somebody gave us a free newer one, so we took it! (too bad it was filthier than sin, but I cleaned all the junk (including hair!) out of it)
Thanks for posting this. A perfect refresher before doing it myself.

Fabulous, now I'm going to try it out myself! Thank you for the excellent video!!
Thanks, very helpful. I am going to do mine this afternoon.
I thought your instructions were very informative. My husband has early onset Alzheimer's, so I can no longer rely on him to do the work, or even offer advice. I have Parkinson's, but think I will actually be able to handle this project now, with your good advice. great help with removing dishwasher, especially since my was a 25 year old GE dishwasher.
Yep, old dishwasher like mine! I am waiting on buying new right now, but just want to remove the old one so I can check the wall they had busted up when they installed it (I had to seal the large hole in the wall they left)😟

Very nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Well explained. Thanks for the video!
Outstanding video. Might save me $100
In this set up, is there a way to shut off dishwasher's water supply without shutting off hot water from the sink? I want to remove my dishwasher for a few days. Thanks!

Very good video. Thank you! I was with a little effort to do this by myself. Girl Power:)
How do you take off the bottom cover plate. The only thing you didn't show. HELP
This is excellent. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much. It is very helpful . .
Great. Thx for watching.
