The Clear Sky app is great I use it for my astrophotography. Not sure the umberella hat was a good buy 😁 Thanks for taking the time to make the video it was very enjoyable. I miss the "off for a bacon butty and a cup of tea" which I think of as your catchphrase 😊
Hi Paul , great to see you out and about again, making the most of the situation as usual, love the hat and your two photo buddies. Damn that was a close one, nearly very expensive. Keep up the great work and have fun. John
Thanks Paul great shots agree re D850 it’s a temperamental beast that shows up any shake but it’s still an awesome bit of kit and like you I am staying DSLR take care
I think you are earning quite the reputation for your hats. Clue in each time to see what hat Paul is wearing 😁. Love, love, love that photo of the three bendy trees.
Very stylish my friend. They always say a hat make the man. Not sure what statement this 'hat' makes, except you are not all wet. Which works for me. Enjoyed the video and images. Love the atmosphere (fog). Got to give you credit for getting out in that weather
As ridiculous looking as that umbrella hat is, it does free up your hands until a good stiff breeze hits! I was glad to see the pooch managed to NOT knock over the toothpicks... Still using my LowPro camera bag, same as yours, I've had it for well over 5 years now.... U caught some nice compositions there " Mr. Rain Man ". Bill on the Hill... :~)
William Farr thanks Bill . The tripod is stronger than it looks 😃👍. The hat works really well but you are right , like an umbrella it isn’t good in windy conditions
Glad I swallowed that first sip of JD before you came on the screen otherwise it might have been splattered on the keyboard. Loved the innovation Paul and loved the images too. Great seeing you upload again as your vlogs are always a pleasure to watch
Another great video Paul. The location is great, it must offer scores of photo opportunities in all weather conditions. I enjoyed the 2 shots and liked your umbrella - a good idea but not in the wind.
Lovely hat mate😂 I think that will catch on lol 😝 amazing what a bit of mist and fog can do for a woodland or any landscape for that matter! Really nice shots! Especially the first one for me👍🏻 have a good xmas mate👍🏻
Hi Paul, enjoy all your uploads, have followed yourself for around a year now.Couple of questions please, I'm at basic level and have always simply place camera on tripod, used aperture priory pointed and shot. Do you use back button focus,I can set it on my camera but not sure when and why to use it, what method do u use to focus e.g third of way in,infinity, hyperfocal and why do some of use guys prefer ball heads instead of the traditional pan and tilt style. Have a great crimbo, Regards,Steve
Hi buddy. Back button focus is just a preference. It eliminates the possibility of pressing the shutter if using the shutter button to focus. Its fine for some situations but on the whole I manually focus my images. I always shoot in manual, rather than AP as I'm from a film background so used to shooting that way. Many top photographers shoot in AP such as Simon Baxter for example and get great results. Regarding focusing it depends what I'm shooting. If there is a main area of interest then that will be my focus point . Shooting A general scene then a third of the way into the shot works well. However you will find that it's very close to infinity on the focus ring. Ball heads allow quick fine tuning and are usually more compact. Pan and tilt is used by some but its personal choice. Merry Christmas Steve x
Thanks for the laugh Paul. I love the new look 🤣 I was holding my breath while watching waiting for either a dog or your brolly-hat to knock the camera over. 😳
Nice to see you enjoying a fine Yorkie summers day !!! - LOVE the brolly hat but not sure how it will go down in Halifax, Cas or Wakey. Also, its good to see a "normal" DSLR being used instead of the gizmo cameras all to often in vogue these days, as not all of us can or would spend £1K. Anyways, a fine vid Paul and good to see 2 dogs who pay absolutely no attention other than to a stick :) Cos I'm a bit dim, whats "click lock" when its at home - another Yorkie tradition perhaps ? :)
Great vid PJ. Interesting woods them... first time also I've ever heard in Woodland Photography video... "dont wee on my camera" Haha.. gotta love our furry photo companions. All the best buddy.. regards.... Steve
That hat 😂, I have the same bag for my mirrorless system ,it’s great for my hols ,I can get the Fuji with the 23mm and 55-200 in that side sipper and the 10-24 in a neoprene case in the top plus a light jacket and a few bits&bobs ........... still laughing about that hat 👍
Is that a new jacket you have? Something different about you🤔 I must find this place Paul. Very well spotted shots and nicely framed using the curves. I’m like you with the DSLR/Mirrorless as main camera. It will probably happen but not just yet. Enjoyable as always, nice work 👍
Love the brolly hat, laughed out loud for longer than I should, however; I think you could be on to something...providing there is no wind🤣😂 another fab vlog and love the pictures.
Those K&F tripods are not dog proof by any stretch and that was a close shave! Sods law the 850 would have landed on a tree trunk. I have joked about getting one of these brolley hats with Darren Knight so hilarious to see you wearing one! Well composed and shot images mate - great watch

Still, would you agree that the same principles of good composition apply to woodland as they do elsewhere: focal point, leading lines, balance etc? It's just often harder to achieve among trees! The role of light, though, is different - as in your excellent video, fog and rain can be an asset, where they mightn't be in a 'big vista'.
Thanks buddy. Woodland is a very difficult sub genre. I think that light, shade and interesting shapes and textures as important to the overall photographic principles because from a personal point of view at least, it can be very difficult to make sense of a composition with traditional methods. Sometimes I works and sometimes it doesn't. When it works the brain is good at remembering and that's where spending time shooting comes into play. Of course it's easy to get that lucky shot but it's the ones I have to work for that keeps me going back :)

Another great example of going out even when the instinct is to stay at home. Love the first and second images, which I suspect would not be half as good without the mist. I thought you were going to swing the camera to the right of the first shot, it looked like there was an great avenue of trees disappearing into the gloom. Not sure about the fallen tree one....a bit messy. Hope the insurance has a dog claws.
Steve Hartley thanks Steve . I got the shot you are talking about but it didn’t make the edit . The fallen tree shot is marmite . I personally love it but I understand the critique that it can feel busy . 😃
Love the hat Paul, I was in fits for about a minute. Lovely images as well. As far as mirror lock up and all that, don't forget the higher the Megapixels you have the more you will see any movement. One disadvantage of high MP cameras. It was the one thing I had to get used to after I switched from my Canon 7d2 at 24mp to my Canon 5d4 at 30mp, it may not sound a huge increase but it still made a difference I suppose going from a Crop sensor to Full frame was a factor as well!!
Hi Paul, I was in some woods around there the other week but couldn’t find the creepy wood lol. Any pointers how to get to it like mate? Cheers! Top video as always and loving the brollyhat haha
Mate, that made me laugh out loud twice - loving the new 'hat'! I would hazard a guess that you were happy that there was no one around when you were wearing it though? Great video from less than perfect conditions. P.S. I'm with you - click lock every time.
Hello Paul i'm from the United States and I love the music you play at the end of your latest videos would you be so kind to tell me what music you have it sounds so creepy and I love it so if you could let me know that would be fantastic thank you keep up your wonderful videos and photographs.
Nice video and images, I thought that hat was a good idea and thought ok even if you do look a bit of a plonker with it on when out on your own who cares if it keeps the rain off you and hopefully camera and lens. Then at the end you said it comes off in the wind I wonder if there is better ones are around or did you wear it for a joke or do you think it works? Or maybe large umbrella with long pole and spike so you could poke it in the ground and would be wind proof.
It works very well Stefan. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but any umbrella would have a problem in the wind. The head band was a little uncomfortable but I think a more expensive one would be more comfortable. I will be using it again. It was very convenient.
Great looking on amazon now I did look at fishing umbrellas with the spike but I don't think they are long enough when standing so hat it is, Anyway great video I like all of yours as your a cheerful chap.

It takes a lot to get out there and make a video in that weather at that time of the year. Not only is it wet, but how much daylight do you get in a day? 10mn? You still make a nice video of it Paul. Very enjoyable to watch and an amazing cure against winter. Thank you

As normal enjoyable video, At 5.20 when your dog licked the lens of your vloging camera it occurred to me what a wonderful way to clean Nixon sensors. I love to laugh along with you and their was a lot of that this time. Thanks for your hard work and sound advice.
@@PaulGJohnsonphotography Ta very much! I'm a wheelchair user you see, so holding a brolly can be a bit of challenge, especially when I'm trying to take a photograph at the same time! lol
Sorry, missed the first two minutes of talking because I was laughing so much at the brolly hat. I'm really drawn to shooting in the dreich weather, as its all about hue and tone, not about saturation (sick of hearing 'expose to the right', it just doesn't express the true nature of British weather, it might work for California but it ain't right for Cambuslang). Not drawn to looking like a drookit dug though.
Nobody has the right to re-edit someone else's photo's without permission. They of course have the right to subjectively comment on someone's work. I might look back at my own previous editing and reconsider it but I'd do that based on how the image finally looks, not arbitrary numbers on a slider. I'm not saying that photographs have to look exactly as the real world presented itself. I'd defend anybody's right to artistic interpretation but hijacking somebody else's work is unacceptable (as the copyright stays with the originator, unless specifically permission being given to the contrary) and possibly illegal.
Generally I'd agree, but your tasteful and subtle might not be the same as mine. Its really up to the person who took the shot and how they interpret it. Today I purposefully shot as shot at f22 to create a sun-star and burnt out the sky, your interpretation may have been radically different to mine....all in the eye of the beholder.
Hey, I admire your images, what an incredible video. I adore the story too. It will be superb if you took a peak at my channel to see if you are fond of any of my videos. Keep up the amazing work! I look forward to your next video.

hahahahahahahhaaha. Brilliant hat. never laughed so much. Can't remember what the video was about so will have to watch it again.

Interesting about the 850 and vibrations.

Then Sony and Nikon got high mp sensors and no one seemed bothered.

@@PaulGJohnsonphotography I'm hoping so. I might look a complete pillock in the process but at least I'll stay dry! LOL (Not that you did! LOL)
Ashley Stubbings I don’t need a hat to look like a p😃😂🤪k 😂
If you had labradors I can absolutely guarantee that the tripod would have been knocked over and your camera lens-planted. :-)
Lol I think you are right Brian:)

Hi Paul my granddaughter prefers to watch you than CBeebies !
Hi Gerry. Hope you and yours are well. Your grand daughter has great taste :)
Not drawn to looking like a drookit dug though.
lol . The 850 prefers to be shot to the left tbh. Leave the drookit dug look to me ;)
Nobody has the right to re-edit someone else's photo's without permission.
