- Great news that Australia's international borders will finally be re-opening on February 21!
Let's hope that places like the Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel, which is located adjacent to the Sydney International Airport terminal, will be full to the brim once more.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel recently on my way home from Russia.
My room was clean and comfortable, and I had a great view of the airport runways.
I also enjoyed meeting the friendly staff including my beautiful new friend Tiamojm humble clayton. Check out her awesome UA-cam channel here: / @tiamojm

What a wonderful review of the Rydges. I stayed there in 2018 for my birthday. On the 7th floor. I had the Plane Spotters Package. Absolutely loved it. Great views of the whole Airport, all runways, and both take off points. And I could see the city and Botany Bay. For a plane spotter, this is your go too stay in Sydney.
Thank you so much for your really kind and insightful comment :) I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. That's awesome that you stayed there for your birthday. I absolutely love plane spotting. I think I could move to the Rydges to be honest, lol, and work on my laptop by the window all day :) Thank you again for your comment, I really appreciate you taking the time :)
The hotel room is so cozy… and I hope they find this video because you just gave them the best video review
Thank you so much for your kind comment :) I loved this hotel. Plane spotting is one of my favourite things to do :)
I must say that your camera and editing techniques are very much commendable. Looks like a documentary. Great job 👏

What a perfect hotel to watch planes. You couldn’t get any closer. I know were to stay on my next stopover.😎
Definitely Gary, it is just great for plane spotting! I was trying to do some editing on my laptop (you can actually see Adobe open on my laptop on the table in one of the scenes, lol, but I kept getting distracted by all the beautiful planes :) I only wish I'd had your 600 lens behind the window :)
@@SuvisJournalism That certainly would have added a new dimension to the video.Excellent video Suvi 😊

Thank you my friend,
What a nice view of the airport from the hotel dear😍
Thank you so much for your kind comment :) Yes, it's an awesome view from this hotel, I just loved watching the planes so much :)
Awesome view of the planes on the tarmac. Also an excellent review of Rydes. I used to, during weekends, pay A$10 at the reception, get access to the top floor banquet room and stay there for the whole day for plane spotting.
That would have been fantastic!! Unfortunately when I was there the rooftop bar was closed because of COVID. But the duty manager very kindly took me up there to see the planes for a few minutes, which I really loved 😀
I would love to have an office with a view like that if an airport, I would never get bored of it 😅
Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to comment, it was great to hear from you!! 😀🤩👍
@@SuvisJournalism It is always my pleasure to comment on high-quality aviation-related videos. Thanks for your efforts put in this documentary.

Hello - this is a great video. Do you recall what category of room you stayed in?
Thanks for the video, what camera did you film the planes taking off with?
Hi Peter! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment :) I just used my iPhone. I wish I had better equipment but that's all I've got unfortunately. Thank you again for your nice comment, I really appreciate you :)
Hi. I have been thinking of doinmg this myself. Just 1 question. I notice at about the 2 minute 14 sec mark, the view seems to change. It looks like you are out side or up on the roof, getting a much better view. Is that the case?
Yes, you are quite right! I am up on the roof for a brief period :) They have a rooftop bar and restaurant that may now be open again. When I was there at the start of the year, it was closed due to COVID. The only reason I got up there for a brief ten minutes was because the manager kindly took me up there so I could get some footage. But it might have re-opened now? I hope so! It is well worth staying there, and make sure you book a room with a view of the airport. It is so much fun seeing the planes taxiing down the runway and taking off and landing :)
@@SuvisJournalism Thanks Suvi. Next time I am in Sydney I am planning on booking in for 4 nights. Years ago, I was lucky enough to go up into the new control tower, while it was still under construction. Holy cow, that was the best view of Sydney Airport I have ever seen!! But the Rydges Hotel looks as though it is not far behind!! Thanks for the response.
@@garrybeattie8265 Oh WOW, the control tower would have been so fantastic!!! :) I absolutely love plane watching. I could sit and look at planes all day. I remember doing some work on my laptop at the Rydges and thinking that I wished it was my office, lol :) Let me know how you like the Rydges when you're there, it would be nice to hear from you again :)
@@SuvisJournalism Thanks Suvi. Will do. I actually grew up in Sydney, in Balmain, and as a kid would often ride my pushbike out to Sydney airport to my very special plane spotting area, near the General Holmes Drive tunnel.
It's gone now, but back then (1970's) The runway out into Botany Bay had a wooden perimeter fence, with lattice on it.
It was about 8 feet tall and had a large flat surface on the top of it, just comfy enough to climb up and sit on. From there I could see the entire airport and was really close to the North South runway.
The security patrol stopped to ask me what I was doing at first. I told them I was plane spotting. They said to me "As long as you don't jump down off the fence, inside the airport, you can stay there". I did, and never gave them any grief, so they always left me alone!!
I could just imagine if someone did that today. They would be arrested and dragged off to the interrogation room!!!
I was really disappointed with the sheps Mound plane spotting area when I first visited it. It's in a terrible location.
Anyway. Thanks for the footage, and the response. Have fun next time you're in Sydney.
@@garrybeattie8265 That would have been a fantastic place for plane spotting back in the 70s when you were a kid! :) Life seemed a bit simpler in many ways back then. You're right, these days you would get arrested, lol :)
You too, have fun in Sydney, and drop me a note from the Rydges. I'll be interested to hear how you like it and whether the rooftop bar and restaurant is now open :)
