- A registered nurse, Prince Ovwiomodiowho, has accused a private hospital in Lagos State, R Jolad Hospital, Agege, of alleged negligence and failure to provide adequate care, which reportedly led to the death of his wife, Loveth, and unborn son, already named Jason.
The distraught man told the ladies Healthwise, that his late wife started ante-natal at the hospital in 2023 but reportedly bled to death on March 8, 2024, shortly after undergoing a cesarean section. Ovwiomodiowho insisted that the lack of a competent surgical team and equipment were factors that contributed to the untimely death of his wife and baby.
He lamented that long hours of induction led to the rupture of his late wife’s uterus, causing heavy bleeding. Recounting the traumatic events that unfolded during his wife’s stay at the private hospital, Ovwiomodiowho said, “I have been in despair, unimaginable trauma, prolonged pain, and unending sorrow since March 8, 2024, following the gruesome murder of my precious wife Loveth and innocent son, Jason.

If after investigation, it was ruled that the hospital is shut down with immediate effect,your relatives accessing care there will look for an alternative.

Sincerely, I can relate with this man. Just lost my mum in a government hospital in Lagos recently. The medical negligence is too much in Nigeria. I was with my mum on occasions where her oxygen ran out and the doctors/nurses were not available. Yet we were spending money on drugs she couldn't even use. They were behaving lackadaisical, like she was expected to die! I still feel bad and I know they killed her. But my grieving family could not do much at the time. Such a country..

As sensitive as Marayo’s argument is, shutting down is not the best alternative. One person’s life can’t be equated to all the lives dependent on the skills of the medical practitioners there. It hurts, but our legal system and medical bodies should be held accountable. In the US, when things like this happens, the doctor/nurse is sacked and the council steps in and follows up in court till justice is served.
Side effect of oxytocin toxicity is uterus rupture....they over induced the lady. She died as a result of oxytocin toxicity.
All this argument right in front of your bereaved guest. Shutdown or no shutdown, what kind of health policy do our hospitals run on. TVC should also have a duty of care not to argue in front of this guest. However, this case should be properly investigated and justice met. I see where Morayo is coming from. The hospital shouldn’t be shut down, however, the doctor’s license should be suspended temporarily and stopped from working as a doctor till the investigation is done and completed.

I agree that Morayo was rather insensitive to the emotions of the bereaved man. Being sentimental because you receive medical care there or you know someone who does is not just it all. I receive medical care there as well. In fact, I was born at their Gbagada Branch.
If that branch of the hospital has to be shut down permanently if and when they are found negligent so be it. Heaven is not going to fall and who knows that may prevent more deaths that can occur through similar situations.
In all, every professional must exercise utmost duty of care when carrying out their jobs. That's the standard if you don't then you face the consequences.
