Even though the Banshee Queen's heart may no longer beat, it can still be stirred by memories of the past...
During their adventures in the Ghostlands, members of the Horde may come across a small trinket known as "The Lady's Necklace" -- a gift bestowed on Lady Sylvanas Windrunner years ago by her beloved sister, Alleria. Upon returning this important keepsake to Sylvanas in the depths of the Undercity, players will be rewarded with the "Lament of the Highborne," a haunting dirge sung in mourning of all those lost at the Fall of Quel'Thalas.

I'm here after watching Shadowlands trailer just to cry inside a bit
hey i know this is a random question but i heard from some ppl that sylvana is going to die in the shadowlands, is it true?

My favorite quest in the whole game was bringing the pendant to Sylvanas and hearing her sing this.

I don't understand how the same woman, who sincerely and mournfully sang this song, could turn around and do the exact same thing that Arthas did to Silvermoon, to the people of Darnassus. She even raised the ranger as banshees, in a sick parody of what was done to her. How and why did she change so much, so quickly? She canonically was mourning the fall of the Quel'dorei just a few years before she became Warchief, and during war crimes she was trying to reconcile with her siblings. Now, she's quite literally mocking that tragedy, whilst doing something similar herself.
I guess different story writers were like, "we need to come op with something serious.. ah well f*ck it, let her burn Darnassus to the ground and be just generally evil and a douche, so horde won't comlain too much when we bring in a new warchief.. again.." or something on that line :D
On the more serious note, yes it is quite a turning of tables to see her do the same, but it's a bit of mimicking life. Think about it, the circle of hatered never ends, if a parent hits and "tortures" their kid, it's much more likely that the kid will do the same to their own children. Something similar happens here I think, because if you think about it Arthas is the bansee queen's father in a twisted way (gave her "life", formed her in his image, etc). In short, like father like daughter.
Shows how less you've understood her developement and her character arc from bc to legion.
Let me wrap this up real quick.
1) after Arthas' death Sylvanas' thinking about her 'people changed drastically. Whereas the Undead first were simply arrows in her quiver to shoot at Arthas, they became her people who deserved protection and a right to live their new undead lifes the way they want to.
This shows in her argument with Garrosh during the Gilnean Front.
2) Unlike the living the undead can not procreate nor are they truly undead. Many of her subjects over the years suffered from simply rotting away. To confront this their subjects as well as herself need new 'energy' to fuel their bodies with. So, Sylvanas needs to do ihr things needed to keep her people kicking.
3) the decision to keep the new weapon called Blight even after Arthas' dead is a statement to her attitude of "who knows, we may need it again". There never was really any moral construct which guided her to begin with.
Conclusion:
What Sylvanas since Cata was doing was basically nothing less than doing everything in her power to keep her people alive, united and strong. The Undead under her leadership deserved a right to live as much as any other race for they have proven themselves many times. Sure, her methods are what we consider radical but, looking at it blanky, they are not too different from the other races . They all pursue the destruction of their enemies, she just has a different perspective on what is morally okay during a war.
She always was the person she is now, we just never saw her acting before.
@@Azunai4 She does have that loyalty to her people, but she has *too much* loyalty to her people imo, similar to what OP was saying about her mimicking the lich king, she is, and she is doing it for the expansion of her people, dont get me wrong, but she's doing it at cost to her *faction's* people too. I believe Sylvanas' goals are true and good in her eyes, but in the eyes of everyone else, and not including the forsaken, she's needlessly, and constantly committing mass genocide of both the horde and the alliance just for there to be more of her people to lead.
Well, I think - and hope - that by the end of BfA we will get more insight into why she burned Darnassus. Personally, I think Sylvanas suspects that an even greater danger than the Legion is arising, perhaps something from the deep Void, and that death/unlife is perhaps the key to stopping it. There have been clues to that scattered throughout BfA and perhaps even going back to the primary reason that the Legion was created and how Sargeras convinced Queen Azshara to worship him. If Sylvanas learned something of the dangers of the deep Void from Helya, it might explain why she has gone from calculating and defensive to her current state of "we must end this war by winning it NOW, at any cost." And with the raw power of Azerite, it gave her a good chance of finally winning the cyclical war. Sylvanas has always been vindictive and merciless to her enemies, it's just more of a question why she's now motivated to take a lot of risks that don't seem to make sense at face value. We know that Sylvanas thinks King Anduin is not just a man-child, but also a hypocrite easily influenced by his advisors. While Anduin and everyone else are fixated on the faction war, Sylvanas might be working toward something she sees as a bigger picture, like how to deal with the Void Lords that first created the Old Gods and seeded them on many planets.
She found her true calling. Banshee queen. She's getting revenge for past transgressions against the High Elves and The Horde.
No more tears. Only salted earth and fire. Horde has had this in the works for a very long time.

Present Day: Sylvanas remembering that time she pulled off a sweet powerslide straight into Arthas' sword.
Here before my eventual mental break-down when they ask us to fight Sylvanas..
My sister passed recently, this reminds me of us. A necklace with so much meaning behind it.

When the Burning Legion and the kaldorei clashed in the War of the Ancients, 10,000 years ago, many night elf women fell. Their brutal murders returned them as banshees, and for millennia they wandered the world in lamentation, losing ever more of their dwindling sanity. Banshees fought in the Third War alongside other undead, and when Arthas attacked Quel'Thalas, he found that he could make banshees of high elves as well.
When playing WC3 on the siege of Quel'Thalas with this on, it sends the awesome level to a trillion.

Wow has been around for a while and Sylvanas has had quite a few things happened that changed her. Loosing her purpose of (un)living after Arthus was finally killed. Going to the Shadowlands and being tortured. Having her sister betray her. She is a character with one of the most if the the most character development in Wow’s history.

I remember... years ago. I went to the world of warcraft homepage. the old one. And i remember seeing a link to some video... i was so young. but this was the video that i found. I believe this is the first time they actually animated the ingame graphics engine into a cut-scene/cinematic.
I know this is 4 years old, but all their old patch's from 1.1 on used in-game cinematic for showing off/hype. If you ever get time, check them out.

The Necklace quest from tbc never played this video. This video is sort of like a music video for the song. However at the end of that quest line, if I recall correctly, this song is played once you complete the chain of quests.
But it's been so long since I did that quest line, I might have my facts mixed up. But this video was never in the game itself!

Thats because she was a High Elf in life, and Blood Elves are High Elves addicted to fel and arcane magic. The only difference is their eyes (High Elves have blue eyes, Blood Elves have green eyes).

@WowFanatic1100 Sylvanas had a very rough ride with the 'Alliance' when they reclaimed the Capital City. Forsaken are seen by most of the living as monsters that ought to be eradicated. Stormwind claims lands of Lordaeron for itself, ignoring the rights of those who lived and died there. Those who survived the plague, fled leaving the country to rot, while Forsaken brought it back from the ashes.
Sylvanas is doing nothing more than protecting and ensuring survival of her people by any means.
I loved this song even though she's a banshee, but still love the song she sings.
In vanilla they didn't have a High Elf/ Belf model. Night Elves are their ancestors; and they were the only Elf model in the game. She was also dead.. so it could be explained reasonably. Believe they kept the original model till Wrath and then made one with a Belf. They finally made a third in Cataclysm(or very late Wrath) that shares the body type of female Dragon Aspects and that's been her look since.
i found somethign kinda cool while on a wind wider on my way to Silvermoon City from Plaguelands, if you go from any point in Plaguelands or beyound and fly to anywhere in Ghostlands or Eversong woods, right during the point after or before you hit the loading screen between Plaguelands and Ghostlands across your screen it should say in white writing "Quel'thalas" or a slit second.

The High Elves, or Blood Elves, are on the Horde's side probably because the leader of the Forsaken is Sylvanis Windrunner, and they were helped by them to take back the Ghostlands.
Sylvanas protected her homeland of Quel'thalas, from Arthas Menethil's onslaught towards The Sunwell, The Quel'dorei's Source of Power. but in the end. 90% of her People Died by his hands, and he made it to the Sunwell. Killing Sylvanas Windrunner. Later on Sylvanas feels Arthas power weaken, and she manages to free herself from his grasp, and re-unite her Banshee self with her slightly rotten body. Sylvanas took alot of Other Undeads with her, and called them. Forsaken. Sylvanas Banshee Queen..

She was a High Elf, then she became undead... Thats why she's called the Banshee

@WinterFireRaven when the sunwell destroyed itself it killed thousands and broke the continents apart, afterwards the high elves changed their name to blood elves in honor of their fallen brothers and sisters.

Theses are the questions that fill my mind, After all.... A Paladin kills herself in guilt but tragically cannot pass on because of it. Blizzard have been more subtle.

@WowFanatic1100 It is not true that they want to come back but the Forsaken don't allow them. Everyone in Stormwind claims the land for the living, calling Forsaken monsters and aberrations. You actually have few quests in game involving living and dead owners struggling for their 'properties'. And mostly living ones seem to be ruthless... so. I guess from Stormwind point of view Lordaeron should be all green and nice while Forsaken should go back to their graves... peacefully or forced.

and then writing team in charge of battle for azorath took her character and butchered it. i'll never forgive blizzard for that.

@RufftyViteazu They are totally different. Belfs were once h.elfs however a branch of helfs thats under the command of kael thas discovered their hunger and thirst for magic. This has lead a change in the race, their glowing blue eyes turned to a sinister green and they can suck the mana out of a living creature. High elves however does not have such abilities and they dont like belfs. Visit allerian stronghold find the female helf there if u are an alliance speak with her. NIGHT ELVES FTW BABY!
