  • In this episode we cross a section of the track i'm going to call no-mans land. The wells were in terrible shape, the water was green, poor quality and in short supply.
    None of the wells were inviting you to stay very long so I banked the kilometers and concentrated on finding a great camping spot for the night.
    A solo Canning Stock Route expedition is my idea of the ultimate test of man and machine. Join me as I take my LC200 down the worlds longest and most remote track with only my cameras for company.
    The Canning Stock Route is the worlds longest and most remote 4x4 adventure. Crossing three of the harshest deserts in the world. Join me as I travel the full length of the track from Halls Creek to Wiluna in the South and all 51 wells in between.
    With a total distance of around 1,850 km (1,150 mi) I will be taking on the Australia's hardest 4WD track solo in a Toyota Landcruiser 200 series built specifically for remote expeditions
    CAMERA GEAR I USE:
    DJI OSMO
    DJI Inspire 2.0
    GoPro 5 Sessions
    Nikon D7000

    ABOUT US:
    I am a solo Overlander exploring the Pilbara in Western Australia and beyond. My goal is to show off the Pilbara and encourage you to venture away from civilization and experience a more adventurous side of life. My hope is that I might inspire others to find their own passion in overlanding this great country of ours.

    I salute you for a honest look at the CSR,, no B/S like most people.
    You seem to be a straight forward sort of bloke which I like,, eg, people cutting up the track , and liking the lack of foot prints.
    I've have seen couples in colour coordinated outfits out there that do nothing but complain about the place,, kinda annoys me, why go?
    Well done anyway,,

      I had a lass from Scotland that i met at Curtin Springs Station just North of Ayers Rock a few years back, she went on to complain about our fellow travellers waving G'day all the time to her and her Irish partner on the road. When i pointed out to her that you're lucky to see one car every 4 hours she went back in her shell. Honestly!.

      I know what you mean. I had someone asl me if they could tour the Pilbara, Kimberley and then drive to Sydney in 10 days starting in Perth. They were supprised when I told them it would take 3 days just for them to get into the Pilbara ( driving a van that could only do 80kph)

    Man, I'm so happy to watch this serie from France. I really like your style of filming and editing.You take the "behind of scenes " in the episodes, like when you start the drone or when you install the camp and start the fire.... it gives me the sensation of being on the road with you. Gavin Gillett, you have the same table as I use. I find it really good in several ways.
    Quick to put up/down (only two U-shape sections instead of four separate legs to lock = 4 latches instead of 8), lightweight & (for me in my 1996 Outback Subaru wagon) when stowed becomes a drying rack when driving, and stowage shelf at night. When in use (as a table) holds the stove, 5 litre Willow water cooler, food/condiments cutlery/whatever, and,
    Iced coffee!

Met a lady in Roebourne, Florence Corrigan, 80 years old, was born out that way, lived her life on the land, bought her book. Amazing woman. Loved doing the west side of the Kennedy ranges too. Good video - can I give you some advice? For your voice-overs, buy a 1-foot size plastic tub from office-works, and order some sound-proofing foam online. Put the soundproofing foam inside the plastic tub. When you record your voice-overs, put the mic inside the soundproofed tub and speak into it. It will eliminate the sound like you are in the bathroom. Keep up the good work.

    • @GavinGillett
      @GavinGillett  6 років тому +2

      Stephen Lloyd thats great advice and I think that will work a treat. Might take me a while to implement, i live in a tiny Pilbara town without quality hardware supplies but I'm definitely going to try that. Thanks mate :)

    • @stephenlloydco
      @stephenlloydco 6 років тому +1

    when is the best time to go on the CSR, thanks mate

    • @GavinGillett
      @GavinGillett  7 років тому +4

      The best time as a whole is winter but I will go further to say this. For a first time CSR traveler the best time is mid to late season as the track will be more apparent and the vegetation will be cut down and away from your car. Less to worry about overall. Mid to late season is July, Go to early "May" and much of the track will be wet. You may have to create your own track to get around large water patches and could find yourself terribly bogged on what looked like solid ground before you drove on it. Late season "August/September" has the benefit of the track being well established, chicken tracks have been made and hazards are now obvious but you could run into trouble if there is early rain. Finally for someone experienced with the CSR and very capable in mechanical maintenance of the vehicle and a skilled 4WDer you could go very early in the season. The benefits being the track is virgin, overgrown and undiscovered as it changes year on year. There wont be any tyre tracks to give you confidence you are going the right way (There are many turnoffs to unmarked places) but you will have the place to yourself. The risk is the track may still be wet and you could find yourself making very slow progress getting bogged daily. It would be taxing and every year someone says they will never do the track again because they went early without knowing what they were in for.
