    The reason there is so much slag with cans is the paint and the plastic liner on the inside to keep the contents from tasting metallic

    Great video. Nothing wrong with transforming cans into aluminum bars. You could remelt the dross and maybe pull another small bar. Very nice.

      Thank you! That’s what I thought 😏. I’m saving the dross till I got a fairly amount and then remelt it😉.

      I’m separating the dross from the aluminum right now, I’ll put some pictures on Instagram and Facebook if you want to see it later today😉

    You can use chlorine tables to degas your aluminum. It will help cut down on lost material.

      Oh really? I didn’t know that🤔. I’ll have to get some tablets for next melts😉👍🏻

      Np good luck with your future melts and videos. When you melt that dross with the chlorine I expect a shout out. 😆

      @@SJWCASTING Not really no. I usually get mine from pool supply stores. They are great resources for chemicals including acid. Make sure that it is just chlorine and no other additives.

    That's a lot of cans. Nice haul. My kids and I are saving cans for a melt. Shooting for 500. We are also pulling the tabs off for another melt. Looks like a lot of work but makes for great bars for the stack. Great video. Thank you for sharing.

      Thank you!👍🏻 I got some help from my neighbors 😉. For the cans we save, I’ll pul the tabs but not for the cans I’ve been given. I got a lot but in weight it’s nothing😂. Every bit helps to grow the stack😉. And it’s fun, no stress, just put some cans in the crucible and let them melt😉. Thank you! And thank you for watching buddy!👍🏻

    I'm told aluminum cans have no alloys added so what you have there is pure aluminum!

    • @SJWCASTING
      @SJWCASTING  2 роки тому +1

      Yes indeed, the aluminum you get from cans is clean 😉👍🏻. But it is a messy process 😅

  • @DragonAtelier
    @DragonAtelier 2 роки тому +2

    It is not worth to do it but still I like to do ot, and the reason is that is pure aluminium thwt I use to make copper alloys with ☺️

    • @SJWCASTING
      @SJWCASTING  2 роки тому +2

      No but it’s still fun and it’s better then throw it away 😁.

      @@SJWCASTING well. If not worth melting then I would go and sell it on scrap yard. Thats why I said it is not worth it - you will get more money if you would sell it on scrap yard and then buy proper aluminium with it 😉

    Omg I basically retired melting cans. It takes way too long to get hardly anything. That stinks your crucible cracked...

    • @SJWCASTING
      @SJWCASTING  2 роки тому +1

      It does take a lot of time and for a little amount that you get out of it😔. But I’ll keep doing it😏. Yeah, it stinks Allright 😔
