    I just found this treasure. My Daddy went to heaven about a month ago. I so wish I could show him this jewel. Maybe somehow I will learn how to play " How great thou art" on his '58 before I see him again. ❤❤❤

    Somebody here questioning whether it's a good demo of this guitar and amp. Open your ears and soak it up. This is as good as it gets. Breath taking.

    Wow, such an epic tone!! This is the closest thing I've heard to tonal perfection in a long time - the guitar, amp, Joey's playing, the audio quality...it's all right there. Awesome job!! If I ever win the lottery, I'm catching the next flight to Nashville!!
    Joey's reaction at 3:21 says it all...pretty sure he's thinking, "If only I had $135K lying around..."

    • @MindsetMastery75
      @MindsetMastery75 5 років тому +3

      Joey sounds like this everytime he plays his own rig. The amp he is playing on is nothing special. And he gets the same tone out of his own Les Paul. Its how he plays. He is a musical genius.

  • @NickGranville

    The tone is killer. As close to perfect in my mind. Slight breakup yet mostly clean and super dynamic.

  • @raybede
    @raybede 6 років тому +66

    At last, someone demonstrating the guitar and its tonal abilities .Not someone showing off with maximum distortion showing us nothing of the guitars' qualities. 'tis in my humble opinion the perfect tone. Thank you very much.

      Oh so you saw Greg Crotch make a fool of himself

    Extremely tasty and subtle playing.
    Such a welcome contrast from the thousands of "G D A - shaking the neck while the chord rings" guitar demos on YT.

    • @williamkerr3350
      @williamkerr3350 4 роки тому

      Yeah the neck shake has me completely puzzled,i have just picked up the guitar after a 25 year layoff and the bullshit I'm seeing and hearing is mind boggling.

      The implication here seems to be that the Les Paul doesn't have subtleties of its own to show when playing subtle music. Suffice to say that I disagree on an astronomical scale.

    • @valarinan7723
      @valarinan7723 7 років тому +2

      Probably the greatest Les Paul tone of all time came from a certain namesake of yours on "Just Got Back From Baby's", 1971 - through a Fender amp, just like here. Go check out how of much of a Nugentian stadium rocker that was, if you have to.

      "Gibbons," between that gorgeous Fiddy-eight, actual music being played, the little tweed Fender, and that guy's hands, everything you need to know about vintage Lesters and PAF's is right there. Right, there. The Reverend would heartily approve of this demo, I have no doubt. To characterize this as "(a) really weak demo" is to out yourself as having cloth ears. Punch play at 2:15. Take notes. Get back to us when you get it.

      You can play anything on anything. You do realise Les Paul was a jazz player... Playing Les Paul's? They were originally designed for Jazz!
      I don't think you would find many people playing metal on a 58/59/60... Apart from Kirk Hammett!
      All the best and Merry Christmas!

      Gibbons the les pauls were referred to as fretless wonders fir there ease at doing fast runs up and down the neck,they sucked for rock the first few production yrs, jimmy page's #2, was only a keeper for him after a refret they suck for bends,and sales tanked,thus they were discontinued in late '60,rockets in mid sixties loved only after most got a refret,uffda

    I’ve been listening to Joey since they debuted their first album and my gf and I saw them live at a restaurant in a Saskatchewan town of 40 people. I believe he’s got the best tone of any guitarist I’ve ever heard, and between his playing and his voice… I’m glad more people are getting to enjoy him. There is literally no mood his music doesn’t suit.

    I have recently completed a transcription of what Joey is playing here. It is available for free and a link to it can be found by searching UA-cam for 'Joey Landreth inspired improvisation'.
    Just as an update on my original comment I have also recently posted a free transcription of the 1955 Stratocaster demo Joey did at the same time as this one.
    Thank you for posting all of these wonderful clips of Joey and your amazing guitars!

      Thanks for the comment John. Funny you should mention the other demos as I did work out a couple of others at the same time I did this one. The 1955 Strat demo I worked out because it has some amazing fretting behind the slide ideas and I also transcribed the 1961 SG demo. I might look into posting a link to those soon as well.

    What an incredibly great sounding guitar and amp rig, and what a great use of the two pieces! That's about as down-to-earth, organic as good guitar playing gets, and very appropriate for these instruments!! Wow.

    You have to appreciate and admire the players who aren’t afraid to look for new notes, new phrasings, new runs. Players who will gladly sacrifice one or two wrong notes in order to hit the several good ones that can come in new ways as a result. Great job.
